I’ve seen so many people react to this but not understand the implications. But as I watch genuine tears fall from your face the longer this song goes on, I know that you understand this song to it’s truest form. To this I know you respect the story. To this we honor the service of people across time and nationalities, the backstories are all different, but the story is the same.
A true man never shy away from showing his emotions. Im a big guy 6'6 , 115 kg and I get tears in my eyes every time from this song. Thanks for your service and for this great reaction!
I was there and I’ve been watching the music video over and over because I WANT TO GO BACK, like please I screamed my lungs out to that song and would do it again 🇸🇪
Was there with my 70-year old father. We both agreed that it was the single most beautiful concert we had ever attended. We were sabaton fans prior but after that concert we ascended to the next fan level.
Was there aswell. Joakim told us that "No one brings a lighter anymore, but all of you got cellphones, so turn the flash on and wave it around" That's what you see, 14000 phones in the air. It was amazing!!
I've got to see the next Sabaton concert in Sweden, when they play in the big arenas again. Oslo was great too, but I missed this! 😏 I do have a ticket to their Swedish tour, but it's not in the big arenas this time. It would probably be awesome anyway, like every Sabaton show.
@@lionfromthenorth4580 Same here, had a ticket to see them on jan 31st this year, but it got moved to feb 2022. Holding on to the ticket though, gotta see them again. Fantastic band!!!
The bit that always gets me is the line that goes " i fält där fränder faller hörs ingen sång " (in fields where kinsmen fall no song is heard). I always think, well there is an entire stadium singing for them now...
A lot of respect for making your reaction REAL man. You should be very proud of yourself and thank you for your service! One of my best buddies in the US, did one tour in Afghanistan 10-12 years ago. His convoy was attacked but he survived. Once again, thanks for your true reaction, showing us what a real man looks like!/Packer Nation, Stockholm Sweden
This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life. The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it. This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it
Your exactly 100% right and the war started because Spain was forcing Catholicism on its people. And during a meeting with Spain and Belgium at the Prague castle turned deadly when the 2nd defenestration (of Europe) which means to through the Catholics out the window of the 11 th story of the castle (Prague castle).
I showed this performance to my gf's daughter. I told her a little bit about the history beforehand. She, a 14yo with zero connection to any form of war, couldn't hold back the tears either. Then she asked me to buy tickets to their 2022 tour. Sadly, no tickets left where we could go :/
I wasn't at this show but at the show in Stockholm a couple of days later and it was the same there. This song they (almost) only play in Sweden and this is how it sounds and looks everytime they play it. You have to be there to fully feel and understand how mighty it is to be in that crowd.
The English version is about the event of course, but the Swedish version being about a soldier is much, much more personal. I'd even go so far as to say that other than the line about fighting for Sweden specifically, it transcends any kind of boundaries and simply becomes an anthem for any and all soldiers across history. Men who historically rose up at the call of the fatherland and simply vanished from the pages of history. Men who left a merger few to mourn them and pass on their stories, lest they be forgotten forever. Men who don't even have the luxury to know if what they're fighting for is just, or if their sacrifices actually made a difference. That is what it means to have a Lifetime of War - however short your lifetime ends up being.
Min morsa brukade be mig stänga av "skiten" så fort jag lyssnade på Sabaton...sen visade jag henne "En livstid i krig" och "Carolus Rex" och hon gillar dom 😊
As a Swede, huge Sabaton fan and also been part of the Swedish armed forces for 14 years.. this song and also manny others goes straight to my feelings... I was just at one of there Concerts again a month ago.. And they played this song to.. Amazing... 🇸🇪🇸🇪❤
We've been there, we've done that, we were the unlucky ones that did not get to rest. I wish people would stop asking me if I'm ok... Pain doesn't hurt anymore but everything else does. I'll live only because I have to and the day that changes I'll finally rest.
One line that really strikes me is "Där ute väntar döden, inte hjältemod" (There is death waiting out there, not heroism). Loved your reaction, and I glad you listened to the swedish version. It is so much more personal and emotional then the english version. As an american, I would suggest "To hell and back", "82nd all the way" and Devil Dogs. They are about two american heroes (Audie Murphy and Alvin York) and the US Marines.
I was not at this particular concert, but I have seen Sabaton live 9 times and at 7 of those they performed this song in swedish and the atmosphere in the crowd was incredible, specially at the parts where the band stopped playing and just let the crowd pretty much take over, there's nothing like it, at least nothing that I have experienced in my 30+ years. Sabaton is an incredible live band, one of the best out there!
I cried almost entirety of song. No matter which country you belong, whatever your backstory is, there is one story that is same for everyone touched by war, death, loss, either that been loss of your home, your family member... doesn't matter, it is sadness, guilt (that you couldnt do anything). Saying "i hope we never exerience war" would be naive since humanity will never be at peace. Even now world is on the balance with all shit that is happening in the world. My naive wish and dream is peaceful world free from war, free from sadness and pain that war brings. But that is only a dream. One can hope but it is everyone that need to make it happen. Sabaton is the greatest band ever, the only that sings about war, and all of what cames with it. I never bow to anyone but i bow to Sabaton, I have such respect for this guys they earn it.
As a Swede, i’ve had a few of my friends.(i’ve never been) being harrassed(?) by the past of Afghanistan. So Thank you for you service sir. You did great. And your country is i debt to you. Have a great day my friend!

This song is powerful in its own right without understanding the lyrics. Hearing the crowd sing the song back to the band just makes it feel so much more important. Then when you understanding the lyrics, it's hard not to cry.

It's emotional, it's sad, it's real, it's epic. I do wish the English lyrics said "because the war can, destroy a man", so it is closer to the original and also rhyme. It's great that you're open with what you feel. Thumb up.
