    That 55 DDO is certainly a lure, but you have to know who you are dealing with. Only 1 feedback for the seller makes this scary enough to immediately run the opposite direction.

    The only reason I bash eBay is for their ridiculous fees that they charge. I've been on there since 1998. And I've seen the fees get out of control..

      13.5% is ridiculous, sure it’s less with an eBay store but that kills any profit you can make unless you are damn near stealing the coins. It’s a shame.

    Ebay has a bug.
    When an auction ends with no no bids it still shows up when you select sold items because it auto selects completed auctions. They even put the "Sold" on the photo when it didn't sell
    That 82 cent never sold

    It has been going on for years. Seller with low feedback (typically) lists with high BIN price, other person (or seller with another profile) BINs it, cancels or "pays by check" and the completed sold listing shows up. The problem is also on the private seller side... they see "1972 DDO sold for $4,000!!!" and think their pocket change is worst more than face. Spike bidding to inflate sell price closer to a real bidder's proxy bid is also a problem. Education on both buyer and seller sides prevents the scammer from winning.

    I think some bogus high $$ sales for coins can often be part of a money laundering scheme. This is a problem with coin collecting and generates regulations on dealers that some are trying to jump around.

    Thanks Daniel - Always enjoy your videos. I thought that eBay did not allow you to sell coins or other higher end collectibles until you had a certain number of sales and good feedback. I buy on eBay all the time and have been lucky. I also follow specific sellers that I trust. I also try to stick with graded only… but I have picked up a few book fillers that were legit. Thanks again.

    Hey Daniel - Happy New Year - I am back watching your videos - I bunch of seller put a ridiculous amount on a coin just to snag that one buyer - chances are the buyer may not know it is a rip-off. Buyers need to research - all smart buyers do. I don't remember the date of a particular V Nickle - but it has something to with a proof - where the coin is worth WAY more in a circulated condition than in proof - unscrupulous people crack it out and try to pass it off as the circulated coin - sorry I don't remember the exact coin. You do great work - Thanks

    Thanks Daniel. You said it...Sell but be Honest in what you are selling. For the life of me I do not know why some folks wouldn't get those coins verified and graded. IE:1(55 DDO EXCEPT for the fact in my mind, they are scamming or money laundering. That folded cent..Looks cool but to me, how would that be done at the mint? Yea the off center portion...maybe (I didnt get a good look at it) but folded? If it was done in the minting chamber, it would be flat. Buyer Beware and KNOW what you are buying or bidding on. I've bought off eBay and have been happy but I have done my homework.

    My view is that this type thing is a BIG area of money laundering. Especially when you see a listing where there's only one person bidding and the bid goes from $10 to $20 to $100 to $1200 to $20,000..... Not exact figures of course but if you look that's what you'll see

    I have bought via eBay listings from folks i also buy from at their web sites -- sometimes the price is discounted or the shipping is cheaper. The only time i bought a Morgan dollar on ebay from a seller i did not already know, it was Chinese -- a lousy Made-In-China fake.

    If its money laundering, or someone trying to get higher feedback, or someone trying to artificially inflate the price of certain coins, don't they still have to pay the 10% eBay fees? Wouldn't that prevent this type of shenanigans? Or is there a way for a sale to be listed as completed where the seller can avoid the eBay fees?

  • @TheWinstonDouble
    @TheWinstonDouble 7 місяців тому +1

    Something I've noticed with ebay pricing is the absurd markup on toned coins. Not all, certain ones. There will be some dime a dozen toner and they'll throw up some huge number hoping someone who doesn't understand the demand around low quality or really common toners will buy it. A lot of these coins are pretty colours, but they're proofs that get toned sitting in the packaging. They're all like that to some degree, theyre not like a bag toned morgan. I have a quarter I got for 5 bucks and on ebay I see another one with the same exact toning on it (slightly less appealing actually) because it was out of the same kinda box... the guy wanted $350 bucks for it! And someone is gonna pay that. I've seen them sell. Not a money launderer, a real collector is gonna get taken advantage of. I mean yeah sure you can ask whatever you want but it's almost like baiting a trap. Someone is gonna see it and think the colour is worth $350 bucks when it's not, it's really common on that particular coin. This is the problem with ebay, you can charge way above market value and your business will never fail because there's no overhead. You just bait 100 traps and sit patiently until someone falls for them. If a brick and mortar shop tried that they'd go under in a month. Idk it's not technically dishonest but you're not a good thing for the hobby when you do that.

    There are and always have been less than honorable people defrauding every market there has ever been. But in the coin market it it might just be fair to say, ignorance is the greatest defrauder. Because every Tom dick an Harry with a penny is a coin expert, and every scratch is a rare error. Unless we do or own diligence. Buyer and seller alike, should endeavor to educate and learn the data, identify the markers, spot the truth.

    Firstly, that 1955 doubled die is a counterfeit, no doubt. It just looks phony to me. The one that truly erks me, personally is the clown with the 1982 LARGE D, has the coin on a scale at 3.1g claiming it's a SMALL date. This clearly demonstrates that this person is not a seasoned numismatic authority. Those of us that know American coinage can differentiate small from large dates INSTANTLY. They look nothing alike, yet idiots get a large date 9 of 10 times because way more large dates were minted compared to smalls, claiming it's a small and they truly believe they have a small. Sorry folks, NEWS FLASH: FANTASY COIN... Don't waste your time on this garbage. Make wise investments and buy Morgans. Just can't go wrong with them, UNLESS one doesn't educate themselves and cannot discern a phony from an authentic. Thanks again brother D👍🏻🙏🕉️

    • @harrybond1485
      @harrybond1485 7 місяців тому

      Morgan dollars are very popular of course, but they are by no means the only good investment in numismatics.Besides, if you collecting only as an investment, you either have to wait a long time for your coins to gain value, or you are in the wrong hobby.If everyone only collected Morgan's, the hobby would die from boredom.If you only like Morgan dollars, that is fine, but you should not be telling others that only Morgan's are what they need to collect.

    It is still a free country. It's called capitalism. If someone is willing to pay you 100 times what you say the coin is worth, well, that's their problem. Some people have to learn the hard way. I say raise your prices to whatever the market will bare, not counting pricing just below 2500.00 on Ebay for ungraded coins from the -0- or 10 or less feedback scammers.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  7 місяців тому +8

      Fraudulent selling activity isn't capitalism, capitalism is a free market where everyone can buy and sell freely (in a nut shell). but there's laws against fraudulent activity. I am pointing out fraudulent activity. Also it's no different than the priceline app, it tells you where the best deal is. You're correct, it's a free country and I am free to tell people where the bad dealers are and where the good deals are.
      It's collectors not dealers who determine the values of coins.
