It is about the number of predictor your hypothesis is about.
In 99% of the cases it will be 1.
But you could test a hypothesis whether a regressions step with more than one additional predictor explains significantly additional variance (in a hierarchical regression). Then the number of predictors in this step would go into the field test predictors.
