Feels more like PlayStation's history being the thing to barely keep it holding on. Like a perfect metaphor for what happens when you don't make stupid choices vs when you do, and then a company still choosing to be stupid anyway because they think they're above failure. Wait. That's not metaphorical... 😂
Don't forget that the PS5 Pro has more expensive prices in other countries that dont line up with the U.S. Dollar.

@@smolbrendan5978 Yeah, in countries with stronger currencies (Than the USD) , like the Euro and Pound, they kept the price at 700, while in countries with weaker ones, like the CAD, they suddenly remembered conversion rates exist. Funny how that works.

The last time a game console sold for $700 was in 1993 when the 3DO was a system made by the guy who later made Electronc Arts. The system died and 3DO became a developer and publisher. I uh, really hope history doesn't repeat.
I mean, the PS3 released at $499, which is about the same buying power as $750 today, so they're done it before. It was a mistake and cost a lot of PS3 sales until they brought the price back down, but it has happened before.

I actually played the ps4 vr game for it, it oozed charm in my opinion, even though it's nothing more than a tech demo showcasing what the vr headset is capable of.

To add salt to the wound, Astrobots reminds us of all the games Sony could have brought back instead of wasting $200~million on a tax write-off
They've gone all in on the super-high-fidelity cutscene-heavy third person action games as their brand, and it's a solid brand, but unfortunately it's also incredibly time consuming and expensive to do that, so they only make, like, one game a year now. Naughty Dog, one of their star studios, hasn't made a PS5 game that isn't a remaster in the entire time the console's been out.
Tax write-offs aren't cheats or whatever you think it is. It just mean they didn't make money so they don't get tax that amount. You can't be tax when you didn't make money.

@@SmartCreeper The money they lost from Concord will offset the money they made on other projects this year. example. If they made 500m this year in profits but lost 200m thanks to concord, they now only get taxed off of 300m of profit.
@@Badmunky64 Every project is a tax write-off until it makes a profit. Concord was devlop for 8 years 300/8= 37.5 million per year. It would be closer to 562.5 profit in this example.
8 years in developement and the game couldn't last a single month. Even Anthem and Marvel's Avengers could had a year before they went down. That isn't even counting Helldivers 2 was already a successful live service shooter that they managed to fuck up and lose most of their players. And then they release a PS5 that proved they didn't learn a goddamn thing from how overpriced the ps3 was.

@Broomer52 That's Arrowhead. As far as I can tell, Arrowhead is a separate entity to Playstation. They just use Playstation as publishers. That's how the whole PSN thing happened.

As much as I like Steam (I buy games from there fairly regularly), Retroarch emulator cores have been my best friends lately lol. Thousands of games to choose from, I could go my entire life without completing all there is in my Retroarch folders.

For anyone wondering about Project Wingman, it was an Ace Combat inspired game that was released as a PC game that was funded via Kickstarter. It seems after release that they got an exclusivity deal with Playstation for DLC to show off the PSVR. However, several people took exception to that, myself included as it lost the spirit of the development and left out its primary audience; it didn't do so well.
one of my top 5 games ever, the direction their taking it now though is not looking great to say the least

And Frontline 59 is an timed exclusive (most likely) dlc to PS5 to showoff psvr2 that probably came about after a request by Sony essentially saying “well give you shit ton of money if you make an dlc along with the PS5 port lulz”

The project wingman one hurts because the 1st game was a PC exclusive before they just went and shipped the sequel to Playstation only exclusive
it's not a sequel. it's more of a dlc. Also it's almost certainly just a timed exclusive (and it probably wont be for much longer since the one year mark of when it first dropped is in less than a month)
It’s a dlc for the game but yeah I’m extremely upset by how Sony made it console exclusive and had the devs sign an NDA so now nobody knows what’s happening anymore

You know Sega of Japan hated Tom Kalinske for dropping the price of the Sega Genesis and packing Sonic The Hedgehog with the console to compete with Nintendo, but it worked. That plan never fails. Sony needs to drop the price of the console and pack in Astro Bot with it.

I don't think it's thee reason but I also wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
The decision was probably made more than a week ago, but this certainly doesn't help. More like "we were selling consoles for virtually no profit so that people would buy our games, but we forgot to make games so now we need more profit on the consoles."
I have a strong feeling that that's the case.
Personally, I think Sony was banking on the goodwill from Concord and Astroboy to distract from the price hikes.

Ironically, Astro Bot almost convinced me to save up for a PS5. Then they announced the PS5 Pro for $700 and all my interest dried up instantaneously.
I never thought of it that way, Astro bot being the A.I. replacement for Sackboy, that's kinda funny.
However I believe Astro and Sackboy are best pals, and as an LBP fan, I wish Astro the best in the future! (and who knows, maybe they'll both unite one day...)
Sackboy really deserved a better say in all of this.

The only thing funnier would be if Astrobot, the only good thing to come out of Sony for the last few months much less years, was a financial failur-Oh no...
If you think about it, that game will never ever make Sony a real profit because of how bad Concord failed
Astro bot Outsold the lastest ratchet and clank at launch, and that game sold around 5 million copies.
Astro bot is doing fine since It is not a high budget game, it was much cheaper than concord

Yes because it is still a ps5 game, but it lacks the stuff that makes games even more expensive: voice acting and the lastest motion capture tecnology, I really dont think it was more expensive than ratchet and clank.
Nintendo still doesnt produce fully voiced open world games because of this, (look at pokemon) it is a good way to keep games a little cheaper.
