I am 40 years old and just found one of my favorite comedy specials that I watched in my mid to late teens. I'm so happy to have found this! This woman was one of my very favorite comedians that showed me what comedy is. Thank you for this.
I remember first seeing this on TV years ago. Laughed so hard. Great seeing it again. Friend and I said “Pokin’ at it, pokin’ at it” over and over. Even funnier if you remember that Snickers commercial. It was already ridiculous.
Paula Poundstone........simply (not simply....) the most brilliant comedian/commentor....geez, no body is better and the fact that she is getting a huge kick out of herself, like WE are, is awesome..
I SO remember that Snickers ad! I taped this special twice because I only got part of it, then did the whole thing. Got rid of my VCR (along with most of America) and no longer have it to play at my leisure. Just love her voice, the way she says ""Soft, supple...ever so beautiful" about the lotions makes me laugh so much. Saw her with a friend and she had a bit about one of her cats having to wear the cone o' shame after an injury and hearing the other cats taunting it "Funnel head, funnel head was shouted", enunciating the "t" in shouted in such a humorous way, it became a major private joke for years.
paula tells a great story about this, i think it was her first cable special and hbo didn't want her to interact with the audience, paula said she didn't fight for much but really insisted on it, and hbo relented. her gasp at how the ladies mother was injured was real, this was exactly the type of thing hbo was worried about, but notice how paula spun all of it brilliantly, and had the audience howling at this very tragic event.
Her crowd work is amazing. On another special, not long after Bill Clinton was elected, she said something that I don't recall and some guy yelled out "Hell no!" And she paused and said, "I heard ELBOW." The crowd bursted out laughing. And she wouldn't let it go. She kept saying, "Why would someone yell out 'Elbow' in the middle of a show? Is he okay??" Lmao. :)
Gut-busting. So, so funny. Unique, original brand of humor. So quick! She feeds off the audience members without knowing what they will say ahead of time. No one's offended cuz they're laughing so hard.
From 5:31...Perfect example of Paula!... Soaring effortlessly over Dangerous Waters other comedians wouldn't go near !... I'll never think of a Lube-Rack the same ! lol
I had the privilege to see her Perform at a Comedy Club in Melbourne, FL a few years back and she is hilarious. I also love The Stand Up Comedian & Co - Creator of Two Broke Girls, Whitney Cummings. Her Stand Up is Unique in that she's extremely intelligent and completely sarcastic. I wouldn't want to sit close to the Stage with either of these Wonderfully Funny Comedians.
i've been looking for this forever... she's so freakin' great. i remember the snickers commercial too lol. and that Maxim is so screwed up. i LOVE Judy Tanuta... my little love puppets, u may have me but u may no po-sess meee *accordian solo* lol
I remember watching her when Comedy Central first came out. She had this bit about her car that I thought was amazing. I wish I could find it. "I buy you shoes, you don't wear them!"
The charges were dropped, the woman admitted she was lying to bring up those charges, bla bla Paula is a hilarious comic and does such perfect banter with the crowd. Funny people piss assholes off without trying, which is also hilarious.
I watched an interview with Paula and she said she doesn't believe in using phones or iPads to read or watch things. She said it burns your brain. Well I don't know that I want to waste my brain on watching her anymore. This is why she went a million dollars in debt. She blew off her audience and nobody wanted to watch her. Brilliant. I love Paula's work but I don't want to burn my brain on her.
Hilarious. And if the video kept going, it only got better. It turns out that the guy wasn’t an attorney. He was just an office lackey. Paula gave him hell for that one.
It’s funny you say that because I was thinking that he would’ve just said ‘attorney’ instead of “working in a law office” if he really was an attorney.
I've seen this Snickers commercial. Once, and right here on YT. I'm pretty sure it's one of those videos that feature a series of commercials from the early '80s, maybe '83 or so. When I stumbled onto it a few months back, I couldn't believe it; I've seen this standup special numerous times over the past 18 or so years and never thought I'd get a chance to see this actual Snickers commercial. But it's around here somewhere.
I loved watching her specials when they first aired. I don't have a favorite comedian but if I did, she would be it. Her personal off-stage thoughts are a little odd but what do you expect from a comedian the caliber of her?
Man she throws some serious shade and Daryl Hanna. I have to wonder is Daryl treated her poorly once? (I've seen this special like 20 times. It used to be on TV a lot. I love Paula).
I keep listening for whatever it was that caught Paula's attention when she's talking to the law firm guy and goes "I'll handle this ma'am." Unless it's the bit of isolated laughter you hear before she says it, I can't hear anything that would make her zero in on that specific woman.
I watch her early work. She was very gifted . I was a fan...back then. But then, sadly , her true spirit left --replaced by that horrific clown suit , and a very different person . I have seen this before; it happened to someone I love. Guard your spirit .
She is hilarious. She looks kinda like Mickey Dolentz, the drummer of the Monkees, like she could be his sister.I know it's weird, but I especially see the look concerning her eyes.
You really *are* a nerd, aren'tcha? When most gas stations change your oil or lubricate your car, you drive it onto a pair of wide steel rails, turn the car off, get out, then the mechanic raises the car on a rack, a lube rack. That gives them access to the bottom of the car, the oil pan, muffler, brakes, etc.
@the astrius Matthew 7:7 Before you point at the speck in you neighbor's eye, consider the stick in thine own eye. --------------------------------------- Have you ever been a foster parent? Have you ever tried to help a kid, who wasn't your biological child?
I was in this audience! Such a comedy genius to this day.
OMG... I can't believe how quick she is with improvising with the audience... Hilarious!!!
Lube Rack is one of the classic, all time funniest bits of comedy ever. Her interaction with the audience is always the best part of the show.
I am 40 years old and just found one of my favorite comedy specials that I watched in my mid to late teens. I'm so happy to have found this! This woman was one of my very favorite comedians that showed me what comedy is.
Thank you for this.
Paula is a phenomenal comic. Her delivery is spot on and her timing is great.
This woman has a unique voice, and brilliant delivery!!!
someone on talk radio mentioned her name today ,which brought me here, holy hell!! i forgot how funny she was!!!! im crackin up!!!!
It takes a very quick and sharp mind to improv an interaction like that.
One of the greats. She is a legend of banter with crowds. Maybe the best.
Agreed. I couldn't stop laughing.
Paula poundstone is cleverly awesome. She is hilarious
This has been one of my favorites for so long!! She is hilarious, I just love the way she talks, I love Paula Poundstone!!
Me too! I've probably watched this about 50 times in my life, luv !!💗💗💗
I remember first seeing this on TV years ago. Laughed so hard. Great seeing it again. Friend and I said “Pokin’ at it, pokin’ at it” over and over. Even funnier if you remember that Snickers commercial. It was already ridiculous.
This woman...she's a pure genious. She isn't crude and she's got a fun voice ot listen to. I can't stop laughing. XD
What a wonderful ability Paula has to make people laugh. It is a real art form to see the little twists in words to provoke smiles...
There's nothing more depressing than people who don't like Paula Poundstone. I'm like, "And they let you vote?!?"
Hahahaha
I've always loved her.
Paula Poundstone........simply (not simply....) the most brilliant comedian/commentor....geez, no body is better and the fact that she is getting a huge kick out of herself, like WE are, is awesome..
She seems like such an unlikely comedian for me to love, considering my usual tastes, but she is just damn funny to me.

Hysterical I need to watch this at least once a day.
"Long about noon when hunger is pokin at ya pokin at ya" I say that once a year because i watched this comedy special when it came out YEARS ago.
Sarah I know it's been over 5 yrs since you made this comment but I was just wondering if you've said it this year or are you saving it for later?

I love Paula. Just bought tix to see her here in SF Bay Area.
Her stand point is never old!!

The hardest I've ever laughed in my whole life was when she talks about the hangers in the hotel.
"I'll handle this, ma'am."
PAULA , I LOVE YOU , I NEED YOU TO HANDLE MY LEGAL
ISSUES WITH LAWYERS!!!!!!!!!!!
Her crowd work is amazing. On another special, not long after Bill Clinton was elected, she said something that I don't recall and some guy yelled out "Hell no!" I had to search for this after seeing her on Ferguson !

Wow! She is legendary, second video I’ve watched....I can’t believe she’s not better known
I need to find this Snickers commercial on UA-cam.
P.s THAT IS REAL STAND UP
I remember watching her when Comedy Central first came out. She had this bit about her car that I thought was amazing. I wish I could find it. "I buy you shoes, you don't wear them!"
That bit's in the first or second part of this special! And hilarious as always. 🤣🤣🤣
"She tore her face open on a lube rack-"
"AAAAAAH!!!!"
The charges were dropped, the woman admitted she was lying to bring up those charges, bla bla Paula is a hilarious comic and does such perfect banter with the crowd. Funny people piss assholes off without trying, which is also hilarious.
I loved Daryl Hannah in splash though, lol!.

Nevermind snickers. I'm more concerned that someone wrote down the idea for Human Centipede. Someone wrote that on a piece of paper!
I saw her yesterday at the psychiatrist's office. true story!
Man she throws some serious shade and Daryl Hanna. I have to wonder is Daryl treated her poorly once?
(I've seen this special like 20 times. It used to be on TV a lot. I love Paula).
Pokin at ya, pokin a ya
...do NOT go anywhere near the lube rack...!
Brilliant with the audience..I wish there was a whole show dedicated to this! Ummm is there?
I saw her a few years ago for an event benefitting the local library and her show was 90% improvised jokes feeding off the audience. It was brilliant.
I used to say the poken at ya skit,i forgot where i knew it from,it was from paula!
god i love her!!!!
Great stuff!
She was do pretty when she was young. 🌼

Can't post a link, but it's real. Look on Retro Junk for "Snickers (Woman In A Horse Stable)".
@LOTF Try just tacking on details_commercial/10446/ Or Google "Snickers (Woman In A Horse Stable)". Either way, I think you'll find it.
mam bum everybody out lol

it's a rack with lube on it
Ok, Who set the shudder speed on the camera for blinking mode?
🖒🖒🖒👏👏
😮 working on the Sox cover for?
Does she remind anyone else of Eddie Izzard?
Only two differences (1)Eddie is funny (2)He likes men
...but that's not important right now.
Improve genius.
