I am in a nursing home after having several strokes, the psychological came in to check on me, asked a bunch of questions, first was what I was watching, I told her Paula Poundstone, she said that was her favorite comedian then asked if I was depressed, lol, I said not at the moment, thanks so much Paula for the laughs, it’s so good to see you.
My college roommate and I watched this the night it premiered on HBO- and could not stop laughing. We would regularly quote it and I still do. Perfection.
This is, embarassingly, the only standup I've seen of Paula Poundstone. (This will be changing in 5 minutes though!! :D) I've only just now realized that this performance literally changed me as a person!!! I was just talking like her a minute ago and was like _Wait A Minute..._ Had to come back just to watch more of her stuff!! I've been quoting this since I was probably about 10 and have always laughed and loved it every time I watched it! Thank you so much for uploading this to youtube!!!
I've seen this show many times and it always makes me truly laugh and appreciate her humor, especially through her ability to make associations. Over time I've noticed comics who came after Ms. Poundstone and have adopted some of her style. It works well, for them sometimes but Paula Poundstone makes her interactive comedy live, and be live for her audience. She's a master.
I watched Paula and all her specials as a young girl. Her comedy was so influential for me that I watched her so much that I picked up the way she deadpans while she talks - and didn't know I was doing it. Crazy how influential comedy can be. Her style of humor is what I find most funny of all comics. Paula we love you! Pure comedic genius and a legend in my book.
As a gag, I asked a 7 year-old nephew once what he wanted to be when he grows up, and it was the focus of a crowd of relatives who hung on his answer, knowing it would be the cutest thing ever, no matter what he said. He replied, "Astronaut or soldier. What about you?" I nearly choked to death on my own laughter. Many people ran from the room. I've told his friends, and important influencers that story at every major milestone. I'm about to start telling it to his new son.
I had to look up what a lube rack looked like and holy crap, that woman tore her face off of that!!! That's a classic story and I wonder where Cara is now? Coming and going anytime she damn well pleases HAHA!!!

Cracked me up in 1990. Still totally funny in 2024.
her crowd work is absolutely fantastic. one of the fastest comedy minds ever. this and the harvard show are legendary.
One of my favorite standup specials ever. She's so great.
She is so beautiful! I just saw her in Neil Brenan's Blocks. It's a great episode.
This is the funniest thing I've ever watched! Her mind is so quick, fast as lightning!

35:30 Cat comments are hysterical. And so true, as all cat owners know!
That's comedic genius.
This had me howling omg
and Cara "Come and go as you damned well please" leaves at 27:54. and she returns at 32:54. timing is everything.
You and I have the same mind. 😂
"Like they said we made good money using cocaine in college what did the weed heads do?" SF/
Lube rack 😂
Paula's funny, but her still having a career proves one thing: Stephen Collins needed trendier friends and better lawyers.
I Love you
12:10 got me 😂
Thank you, @editman21!👍
