Today is the day l take my 1971 Javelin home after 3 1/2 years of part searching, tons of man hours and money. l'm very happy with the results and l look forward to hitting up all the local car shows this summer...
Beautiful car. I work a stone’s throw away from the old AMC World Headquarters in Southfield, MI. I’ve always loved the Javelin and that’s the prettiest one I’ve ever seen.
That is a sharp car, love the color. My first car was a 73 AMX with a 401 4speed. I could pass everything except a gas station, sure wish I still had it.
That is a beautiful and super clean 71!! Hard to find them like that and even harder to build them that way. Seems like even the parts that have been stored are starting to corrode after 50 years. Enjoy!!
Man this brings back memories of my 1973 Amx Javlin blue with white interior bought right out of the showroom couldn’t afford the gas as my girlfriend lived about 50 miles away cars had to go but I’ve been married for 47 years but I still wish I kept my car my nephew liked mine so much he bought a 74 same color we used to drive side by side in the summer and people would stare .. miss those days 😎👍😎
we are restoring a 1971 javelin that was used as a drag racer back in the early seventies.it has the 401 engine and automatic trans.the car ran stock classes on our team when we raced our hurst amx in super stock. jim
To my mind, the 1971 is the best of the 2nd generation... that solid taillight (without checkerboard) and the recessed shaped grille, make it a unique Hot Wheels looking ride ! Nice rims and paint to complement this body style... kudos!
Beautiful car and beautiful work. That paint is gorgeous. Tires, rims, love it all. I might have gone a different look with the tips, something more 'old school' but it look good!
It’s done very nicely like the red pin stripes car has a nice attitude and sits in a nice position. The 360 badge on the finder is near impossible to find and heck just to find a rust free AMC is a whole other difficult situation and requires time and a lot of gas and weekend’s. It’s nice to see another AMC fan with a great car . Be nice to see it one day.
Mike, thanks for the compliments and it definitely was difficult to find parts and when l did well" let's just say parts weren't cheap $$$$. I take her to most of the car shows in Illinois hopefully l will see you this summer..
I know the feeling when you find parts you need and the quality is there you have to just do it . There are two events happening this year Kenosha this July and one in Detroit in August. I’ll be at one of them . Nice chatting
@@antonioparker9666 Yeah l appreciate you digging the car l've attended a couple of car shows and the car is being received very well. She's won best of show as well as best in the 70's car category multiple times. We must keep saving these treasures one car at a time ...👍
I appreciate it and absolutely l can share my tire and rim choice Firehawk Indy 500 tires and HK Magnum wheels are manufactured from cast aluminum 17's 225 front 17's 275 rear l don't remember the back space diameters... I hope this helps...
@@antoniobattle2036 I turned 18 last july and have always wanted a fun project car. After saving for years I just bought a 1974 javelin SST. Can’t wait to get to work on her. If you don’t mind me asking, what were some of the harder parts to source for this kind of car?
@@bowl-of-chicken-soup7107 Hey sorry for the late response and congratulations on picking up your 74 Javelin.. Yeah l found the most hardest parts to locate for my 71 was the grille and bezels assembly, chrome trimming, marker lights, plus tons of parts associated with the interior and engine bay. My car has tons rebuilt parts and modifications simply because the parts aren't ready available or just entirely too expensive... The sellers of AMC parts are definitely price gouging these days.. How far a long are you with your 74 Javelin???
@@antoniobattle2036 I’ve hardly started on it. I’m in college right now so I haven’t had the time do do all that much. I have been looking around for parts though and like you said, the grill is nearly impossible to find, and the ones that I have found are always damaged. It has a 350 olds with an automatic transmission, which neither are in good shape. So I plan on taking those out here soon.
@@bowl-of-chicken-soup7107 When you get a chance if you haven't already check out this site. I've ordered tons of parts from this site. Most of their products are " original equipment manufacturer" www.amclives.com/
Beautiful car! I'm halfway through a 71 AMX myself. I was planning on keeping it original but I don't know about the paint. The stock color is Quicksilver, but it is too light and you lose a lot of the chrome and stainless trim in it. I was looking at a candy pewter which was darker, for more contrast. Your car is a gray isn't it ? It's hard to tell if it's a metallic too. Is that a metallic? I'm trying to get ideas for paint next summer.
@@antoniobattle2036 i’m in Quebec Canada there was a time in the 80’S and 90’S 401 from javelin was very easy to find , even more the 401 from wagoneer, in all I had about 75 of them if not more I was paying 25 to 125 $ Canadian for a complete block and 25 $ more with a transmission. Most of them where rebuild to be installed in JEEP CJ-7 , YJ , TJ . I had also 100’S of 360 and 304 , I did some engines for the drag but most was for the streets and lots of torque in 4X4 . A friend has put a modified 401 in a mini Austin , he was driving from the rear seat .
@@bmf00 😂😂 Exactly and that's why it wins best in show and 1st place in every carshow entered!! You're a hater/troll and thank you for the compliment!!
@@antoniobattle2036 not a hater. or a troll. its a very nice car with awful exhaust tips that stick out to far. It doesn't look right. if the exhaust was done right. it would be perfect. you should cut about 5 or 6 inches off. the exhaust should not stick out past the bumper.
