- In this cake decorating tutorial I show you how I made this SIMPLE pallete Knife cake with rice paper sails and some meringues. I also used some sprinkles to take it up a notch;) The vuttercream texture is pretty easy to do and the sails are more of an intermediate decoration, but really I think anyone van do it! When I have only a vague idea of where I'm going with a design, I say I'm going to "Picasso" it 😂😂 and just let things fall into place. It makes me sad that because of the nature of the internet, Mary has to explain many things that most of us know are a "given" . We know as a professional who works in a shop, she washes hands FREQUENTLY, and that food gel discolors our hands despite hand washing and it takes doing the dishes by hand and a bit of time for it to completely fade. 😊 I have almost every exact tool Mary uses, but since I absolutely adore her and her work, I swapped my Fat Daddio's giant Silpat mat for the one she uses and I just love it ❤! Thank you Mary for all the time you take, thinking up, creating and uploading great teaching content. Your channel is like being there with you, chatting and having ☕️ coffee together 😊. I hope you are well monetized for all your efforts! Thanks again for all you do for us.

Mary, this cake is a dream like every cake you make. What will be a suggested price? Just a suggestion ?
Oh gosh, price is tricky:) It depends on so many things. THe size, specialty flavors, your location, your supplies and how long it takes you. I try to figure that all in. Don't undersell yourself. I would probably sell this cake, being a 4 layer 6" cake for about $80-$100. I am in the midwest so the average price clients are willing to pay is lower then in larger cities.

They do;) just try not to have them go from a cold refrigerator to a very humid climate to be on the safe side.

Love this cake. Mary what do you put on your buttercream cakes before putting your fondant on, to make it stick?
I usually put on a thin layer of shortening. But you can also brush or spray on water or simple syrup;)

Hi!! I would love to give you a quick answer, but there are so many things I have accumulated that I can't live without,) The fist things would probably be off set and straight spatulas, scrapers, a good turn table, piping bags and tips. The rest you kind of purchase as you go depending on the cakes you are making. If anyone else has some advise, please feel free to respond as well!
I have a question do the rice paper sails wilt as they sit in the buttercream?
I have not had that happen to me. But I do leave cakes in the fridge until 2 hours before serving so they can come to room temp.
Do the meringues get soft/soggy on the cake? Can you pop all that in the fridge after they are on there or will that destroy them? TY!!
I think they stay best kept in an airtight container until right before you need them. Room temp is always best with the, because they are highly effected by humidity. But they can stay in the container for a long time. Maybe even a week.

Thanks! Really it depends on your oven. I would check about every 10 minutes.
