Four years later and you’re still helping people. I’m in north GA now and this is exactly what was happening to me. Thank you so much. We got the builder to come out. He cut our basement pipes and drained it. But 8 days later my toilet is bubbling while I have the washing machine running. Thank you for solving a mystery that has longed puzzled me. I'm quite familiar with the experience of bubbles in the toilet because we went through a phase in our house when invasive roots were entering our main line and causing a backup -- usually about once a year. Bubbles in the toilet were a warning sign that disaster was about to strike. I was always curious about the physics as to how the bubbles were being produced but I never had time to think about it. I had more immediate needs -- a big mess to clean up and a line to get cleared. Thankfully the main line is all patched up now and the root problem solved. I can honestly say, though, that just the thought of bubbles in the toilet makes me tense, almost like hearing the screech of car tires skidding on pavement. Thanks for your video.
You're welcome and glad it helped. I know exactly what you mean, when listing to an irritating sound that suggests something could be wrong, like that obnoxious noise coming from underneath the hood in a vehicle.
Thanks for the explanation. 2 weeks ago my toilets didn’t drain and water backed up in shower and bathtub. Even I washed dishes, I saw foam came out from the clean out trap on the wall outside my house. I tried plunger then used baking soda, vinegar and boiled hot water to flush the toilet bowels several times but it didn’t work. I did that again and waited overnight. However the situation didn’t improve. I went to home depot to use bathroom and bought unclog product. I followed the instructions to wait for the water in the bathtub (closest to the main sewer drain) to drain completely before pouring the product. Then I followed the instructions to let it sit for at least couple hours. In the meantime I used the product to the toilet (closest to the main sewer drain) and followed the instructions to let it sit for at least 2 hours. I checked the building sewer line outside my house and barely saw water flowing down from my house, which indicated the main sewer drain in my house was clogged. After 2 hours I poured a big pot of boiled hot water in the bathtub drain and the toilet. It didn’t work immediately. After 2-3 hours I was about to call plumber and suddenly heard strange noises from the bathroom. Then I saw all backed up water was gone. I flushed the toilets, and turned on bathtub’s and shower’s taps and they drained well. I have called plumber twice within the past 12 months. The blockage I just mentioned was the worst one. I’d say i was lucky the unclog product worked and it helped save me a couple of hundred dollars.
Glad you resolved your issue but you should never pour hot water into a toilet as it will melt the wax seal between the flange and toilet and thus break the seal.
Excellent video and explanation. That is the exact issue I have. Outside is my clean out. Opened it and out came what was in the lines. Snaked a hose about 8 to 10 feet towards the septic tank and it a clog. Could not break it up after several attempts. Call to have it pumped.$650.00
Yeah the other night while I was in bed and I heard a sudden loud bubbling noise come from the toilet. It actually scared me, I jumped. I looked over and (clear) water from the toilet had overflowed and was spilling out of the bathroom and onto our carpet. There was no sewage…again it was clear water. The toilet also was running so I fixed that and cleaned up the water. There was no more water coming out of the toilet at that point. No one had used the bathroom for at least 30-60 minutes before that happened. Fast forward two days later and our bathroom has the slight scent of sewage. It’s not overwhelming but it doesn’t smell all that fresh. No overflows since the other night and our drains seem to be draining fine. I’m just worried that these are red flags for a bigger issue that is in the works.
They usually are, but if this is the first time, you could have had some type of clog that in no longer a problem. If it happens again with in a few months, then I would be concerned.
I am currently having a similar experience, minus the toilet overflowing part. My toilet has occasionally made gurgling noises, but I always dismissed them since it was occasional and it always flushed well without any problems afterwards. However recently, we have noticed that one of the PVC pipes in our basement has been slowly leaking clear water on to our washing machine. The water has always been clear, but the basement has developed a bit of a musty smell because of it. All drains are still draining well, but there has also been a slight decrease in water pressure in the shower recently. I just contacted my landlord about this issue, because I’m also fearing that these are red flags for a bigger problem in the works.
One of my toilets does this, the other is ok, so I've stopped using the bubbly one...Curious whether plunging could make things worse. I'm in an old house with no cleanout, single mom who can't afford plumber to potentially collapse roots and really break it. For now, avoiding putting anything down the toilet. Kitchen sink has been serviced a few times, they say can't find any issue between house and street.
I've seen toilet bubbles for six years in this house. It has a unified vent system (only one vent visible on roof) and I thought maybe that was the reason. Your explanation makes more sense. I don't have overflows in the basement so if it is backing up it must be one particular pipe that has a problem.
Thanks for the informative video. I am at my wit's end trying to figure out my plumbing issue. I have bubbles in one toilet and gurgling every time water is running anywhere in the house, or a toilet is flushed. I have no draining issue though. No slow draining, no standing water in toilets or sinks. No sewer smells etc. I just have gurgling sound from sinks and bubbling water in one toilet when shower is running in another part of the house. I have snaked the toilets, snaked the vent stack and nothing changed the gurgling. Any suggestions on what to look into next? I'm considering tearing apart the laundry tub drain pipes next to see if there's a clog there. Any advice or suggestions would be great. Thanks. Forgot to mention that we did have professionals snake the line that goes from the house to the street a few months ago. We thought maybe we had tree roots. Having that done changed nothing with the gurgles/bubbles. Thanks again.
Great explanation!! However, I live in an apartment building 4 apartments and my apartment has two bathrooms and both toilets bubble at the same time. Could this be a clog from the main sewer? Thank you in advance
@@chanel113 It's been a while but what was found (when the apartment complex finally listened to the plumber who suggested a camera probe) was that there where tree roots that had grown into the pipes and anything that was being flushed would get tangled in the roots causing backup. The pipes had to be dug up and replaced. It would have been less expensive to have this done in the first place. Hope this helps.
In the morning my toilet will flush, I see a few bubbles and the siphon doesn't seem very strong, my shower will make a glugging/bubbling sound right after flushing. Then if you flush it again it will try to make a whirlpool and suck the water down but it can't and starts filling up with water. My shower will also at that point not drain if I turn it on, I'm assuming because the clog is a little ways down and it takes a 1.5 flushes to fill the pipe. Do you think I should put chemicals down the shower drain/toilet? It's definitely either just hair from the shower, or a big poop and toilet paper down there we absolutely do not flush wipes or anything in this house. And I'll admit, this happened literally right after I took a monster dump. I pooped and then we only had a little toilet paper left in the bathroom, enough for two wipes so I hopped in the shower afterwards to blast my ass with the water, when I got out I saw there was still a little turd in the toilet so I flushed again and that's when the water started to rise.
How can this be fixed? I just moved into a house with this issue and it doesn't have a cleanout. I talked to a plumber over the phone the other day who said that a cleanout needs to be installed before he can address the clog. This can't be right, can it? Surely other homes without a cleanout have had this issue resolved without adding a cleanout first? I'm pretty sure I know which toilet has the partial clog. Can the toilet be snaked? Or can the clog be fixed through the roof? This is the most informative video I've seen about this issue so I appreciate you uploading this helpful content!!! I was quoted thousands of dollars to add a cleanout and I just bought this house so I don't have the funds for that and I'm hoping it can be fixed another way. Thanks in advance!
I do have other videos at our website that might help. I would also contact other plumbers for better prices and suggestions, because sometimes you can use roof plumbing vent pipes to unclog drains.
@@gregvancom thank you so much for getting back to me! I'll definitely check out the other videos. I was thinking of contacting other plumbers as well. I really hope it can be done through the vent pipes! It's been a nightmare dealing with this problem. Can you also unclog the drain through a toilet or only through the vent pipes?
So, it's a good sign if my toilet wasn't flushing at all, and now it is flushing (not as well as it did before this happened) and toilet is filling up, again, but has bubbles now? It didn't bubble before? I went to Lowes and bought septic tank declogger, does this mean it's helping?
I had the clog removed multiple times, every plumber comes in and says it is roots and I don't think roots grow in winter so fast. This is the forth time I am calling the plumber, so it is not just the clog. It might even be the design of the pipes or the ventilation is clogged
Try dropping the root remover pellets ( Root x ) in your toilets .pour in just a little bit then flush then a little more then flush at least 3 or 4 times on each toilet 2 or 3 times a year and this will prevent any root problems ....You could always have it looked at by a plumber with a camera as well -- but it won't be cheap for that.
Thank you for this comprehensive explanation. I thought my house was haunted. LOL The noise was coming when no water was being run even after about 10 minutes. I'll be checking my clean-outs tomorrow when it gets light.
Makes sense, I run a hose with a high power nozzle down one of those toilet pipe in my front yard and a few mins later the water drains away, but a day later if happens again , the pipes gets filled water... how should it fix the problem for good? Help.
I know it might seem like it, but sometimes garden hoses can't remove obstacles like tree roots and if that's the case, then you might need to rent a plumbing drain snake from a local rental yard. Then you asked how do you fix this permanently, that's hard to answer, because if the pipes are damaged or broken, then they will need to be replaced.
We added a new toilet on our upper floor and since then there is an air bubble that pops up when flushing but the toilet in the floor below does not. It shares the same stack and drain system? Why would the bubble come out in only one toilet and right after installation??
Thank you! this is super useful and I think its the issue I have at home. I read in other places not to use a drain snake down a toilet as it can scratch the toilet really bad. Is the only way to fix this is to remove the toilet, then use the drain snake? Would those chemical solutions work for this?
I've seen those drain chemicals not work and the plumbing back up more a nd went into the bathtub and took the finish off the tub from the drain cleaner chemicals.
Finally someone explained it in a way that makes sense! Problem is I’m on the 1st floor apartment of a 12 story building..and the plumbers keep telling me the air bubbles are trapped from above me, it can’t really be fixed and I just have to wait it out 😳😤🥺 Noooo! I’m tired of the mess it makes! I’m tired of walking on eggshells!
When my mom lets out the water after taking her bath, the downstairs toilet in the basement bubbles all the way up out onto the floor and causes the edge of the bottom wall to damage.
I have this problem with my downstairs toilet. It only does this when it rains heavily here in Louisiana, like torrential rain. I had brand new underground pipes leading to the sewer line installed 2 years ago because of an overflow issue in this same toilet. So I have new underground plumbing and the bubbling happens when it is raining heavily, also I have very low water pressure in this toilet and constantly clogs where as my upstairs toilet flushes with no problem. I even installed a new toilet downstairs but nothing is fixing the issue. Could the roof vent be the problem?
It sounds like there could be a clog, but not with new drain lines installed correctly or your sewers could be filling with rain water and backing up your drains. I don't think this could be a vent problem. You could have a low drop where the plumbing drain line fills up with toilet waste water to soon and doesn't drain fast enough, especially if all the work you've done doesn't seem to help. Let me know if this doesn't make sense.
Just happened to my downstairs toilet today. Very heavy rain. I thought the thunderstorm had chased birds into the vent pipe or mud wasp nests clogged the vent. It was bubbling some and I flushed it and it did not go down at all. I plunged it some and it went down slowly. Once the rain let up its all working normal now. My yard rainwater really all runs over my septic field and all the leech lines are lower, as in they have sunk in the yard some. I bet this really holds the water in them backfilling them to the point where it did back up some. I had it pumped about 6 years ago and was only 10 solids in the tank and was very clean. I could be a sign that the drain field is nearing the end of its life and not working properly but it seems perfect the rest of the time. Guess we will wait LOL.
Nope ,it’s a big job to unblock it, and it’s gross ,human excrement is vile , personally I think flushing like this is terrible, composting toilets are more friendly and none of these problems would happen.
I have a similar problem - when we flush - bubbles immediatley surface and we have to hold down the toilet handle for 2 full seconds for the water to empty from the commode. Used tons of chemicals but to no avail- so, having watched your video, nice job, it looks like a clod down the line - or perhaps a clog in the vent as well. Thanks
👍 Very good video. I like the diagrams and your explanation. However, there is one problem you did NOT include. What about a basement concrete floor drain? If water would be backing up/rising ( 2:17 +), wouldn't it be backing up thru the floor drain and flooding the basement? Then the plug-up could be further pinpointed. Comment please!
If the floor drain is connected to the sewer which it might be in older homes, then the floor drains would be the low points. Usually the floor drains are separate and not connected to plumbing waste drains in newer construction.
What do we do if the toilet when flushed fills up the bowl but doesn’t go down immediately. the water slowly goes and then after the water is gone air bubbles start to come up ?
If there is no way at all that water could backup in the manner that I am providing you with this video, then I wouldn't have a clue, but if you find out, I'll love to know.
I have this problem currently, had a plumber come out and take a look. A couple years ago I had someone come out and raise my front porch as it was sinking into the ground. The sewer pipe was directly under the area where they were operating their heavy equipment. The plumber looked at everything and told me that the pipes were no longer pitched correctly, allowing waste to collect and not properly drain off. Either the lifting of the porch shifted the pipes under the house or the backhoe shifted the sewer pipe. I also have an older house with no cleanout. The plumber advised me they'd have to replace the pipes to correct the issue and I'm currently saving money for that right now. Since it's a pitch issue eventually enough pressure builds up to 'clear' the line, but it's not going to work forever. I'd get someone out to look at it and see if the lines are pitched correctly.
We have a small bathroom, where the sink , toilet, shower and tub on the other bathroom (not yet connected, shares the same wall) all share the same main sewage drain. We just moved in, we are remodeling (still in the middle of it), after two days the bubbling started. Fast Forward 2 weeks, and the shower is draining slowly, it's actually puddling. We noticed that when we flush the toilet after the shower, water is coming back out through shower, and the other tub drain. I have access to snake through the shower drain. Should I do that instead of the toilet?
How did it go? I have literally the same problem. I have water rising in shower cabin. From even flashing toilet. But the system was built pretty bad, I instantly hit 90degree angles with snake. I'm stuck.
@@arty_lerry7730 Someone flushed a rag that was stuck in the main pipe about 50 ft from where or toilet was. I got some roots in my main line Thankfully we were able to fish it out (that's how we found out) through an access pipe .
@@wylian84 Did You call-in plumber? I live in one room "appartment", only I am using this main drain pipe. (I don't have neighbors) Most likely it's just "poop, parts of food, hair and toilet paper" built over years. I have a feeling that it would require taking off floor and etc. Which would cost dearly since I'm in Netherlands.
Last couple months my drainage was weaker than usual but obviously I didn't pay much attention as an idiot. And then basically in 2 days it went to full stop.
Get to the main sewage drain and try to reach from inside and clean it in upstream direction. Understand principe of your drain system (in what order toilet, shower or sinks connected to the main drain) and think logically where the major blockage could accumulate in it. Kitchen sink might be grease problem, from toilet it could be unsolvable materials, etc). Generally, try to clean mechanically insides of all drain pipes you can reach with plumbing wire. Also, rinse everything with hot water as it helps to melt and dissolve some of organic debris
Just got one of these issues. I flushed my toilet and all the "contents" so to speak just started comming up through the shower drain. Have tried a few things, pouring boiling water mixed with dish soap down the drain and plunging my toilet. None seem to have worked on the issue so called a repair man.
I live on the 6th floor, Have new toilet installed month ago, and yesterday when i took a shower i heard bubbling fork toilet and water didnt run fast thru the drain at the bathrub (and its clean, normally i use baking soda and vinegar). And today when i used toilet and flush water stayed ,didnt went down.. how is it possible when i have new toilet and i am throwing only toilet paper... is that the building issue with main sewer drain, coz.i live on the lower floor?buildings has 14 floors... please advise.. never had this issue before... 😩🙁
I don't exactly what's going on, but my guess is that it would be a problem in the drain line and would contact those responsible for making the necessary repairs.
If the pipe is clogged then call a plumber to run a drain pipe snake down the pipes to clear out the debris that is preventing the water from draining.
our toilet flushes without any problem at all . flushes without any delay all waste and than fills normally . there’s no noises or gurgling any time . what we do get is one bubble as i first flush the toilet but the toilet empties completely . never delays or noises. it’s allways done this. no noises anywhere else . all drains in the house and other bathroom all flush and drain.
i have 3 upstair toilets only 2 are clogged the 2 sinks and 2 bathtubs are clogged we’ve had problems in the past where the toilet wouldn’t flush so we turned on the bath and it would flush but now that doesn’t do anything and we’ve had the upstairs pipes leak through the ceiling and the house is about 8-10 years old now what could be the problem?
In my opinion one of the pipes are clogged. You can hire a plumber or go down to your local rental yard and explain your situation to them and they will provide you with a plumbing scope inspection tool that will allow you to see what's going on inside of those pipes.
I have a question my toilet does not hold the water level in the bowl is a little lower than normal. all the components of the base of the bath are fine only when you added water in the bowl it goes down and makes a noise under the bowl like a small drip like a drip in this case I have it upstairs on the second level of my house but I don't look nor do I detect any dripping on the walls that could be thanks for your time.
thanks for your answer it's something like weird I'm not a plumber but I've watched a lot of videos and I don't watch anything but when I do I share it thanks
I dont have bubbles but after toilet fills then i hear bluup bluup bluup Im in a 2 unit apartment building. I can also hear the bubble sound when upstairs neighbor uses toilet. The exterior load bearing wall also. That both bathrooms are located on. Has shifted ..... The 3/4in gap between door and frame that for 6 years had been at the top left corner Recently. Walls attached to entry door wall look bowed above bathroom door frame. Tile walls in bath tub shower have been wavy tje whole 6 7 years been in this apt. I applied some caulk a couple of years ago. To close tje broke open places in thhe caulk or grout. Those too recently have spread open. And tiles in wall have been active as of recent. As compared to no movement or change the up till a few months ago. Soil is clay based. We were in a severe extreme drought here in missouri. 5 inches below avg rainfall. Also Building was built in mid 1970s. Ceiling dry wall has visible open space on each side of door frame from entry hall area and kitchen.
Also. Dish Washerb drain into disposal is level. Its not routed or situated at a heigjt of 2 x the pipe diameter. To prevent backfilling from disposal back into tub of dishwasher
I'm having an issue with a big air bubble coming up the flush tank. this air bubble slows down the water going into the toilet bowl. so not all the solids go down on first flush.
I think the problem might have something to do with air getting into your water supply pipes, but that's about all I could suggest. Let me know if this makes sense.
For goodness sakes, don't put 'wipes' down the toilet. They do NOT dissolve! My sister did this and after a while, one heck of a clog up. P.S. I told her not to do it but she said they were flushable per package, "checks in the mail too.".
Would love your input if you have a minute. I have a clogged toilet that I've tried unclogging with a plunger and a toilet auger without success. Even waiting for days, I can't get a noticeable amount of water to drain naturally. The toilet bowl is full of, well, liquified you know what. There's a shower right next to the toilet with no sign of water coming up & out of that drain (but we've not used the shower just in case it does back up). No bubbles coming from the toilet. Any idea what the next step would be to get this thing fixed? I'm hoping for a DIY solution as I cannot afford a plumber. Thanks for any input you can offer!
You might try to remove toilet or use an existing wall or floor cleanout to run some type of drain clearing snake to make sure the plumbing waste lines aren't blocked.
@@gregvancom Thanks. Great video by the way! I ended up getting my toilet unclogged with a heavy duty 6' toilet auger (which broke in the process!), perhaps aided by a generous amount of Dawn dishwashing soap that sat for 24 hours (after the whole mess had undergone 2 weeks of plunging and 3' auger attempts).
Not usually with snake. Just run it through the pipes. However I have ran water at the same time as running snake, you just have to be careful or you could wrap hose up in snake.
It's probably a clogged drain pipe that would need to be cleaned out. You could contact a plumber or use a plumbing tool often referred to as a snake to do it yourself. Some rental yards will be glad to rent these tools to you so that you don't have to purchase them.
I thought venting was my problem, no it's roots in the main sewer line to the street from the magnolia tree out front. A 4" pipe shouldn't be plugging up as much as it does, I live here alone and don't eat that much.
I live in a condo and share a line with the person upstairs. I was always puzzled by air coming out of my toilet at odd times. Now that my toilet has backed up for no apparent reason, I wonder if the people upstairs contribute to the problem. The bubbles, air from my toilet have been happening for years. I could not figure it out. It had to be the people upstairs. Now my toilet has completely backed up. I think it's never been cleaned out. The people upstairs don't see it because I'm beneath them. I've been pouring hot water and dish detergent down the drain to try to fix it. I think the people upstairs should share in the cost of fixing it, calling a plumber.
I would let them know and have them share in the repair costs. If they don't then contact a few of your neighbors or home owners association to see what they might suggest also.
@@gregvancom Thanks Greg. I think it's something the entire HOA should share because I basically paid to clean the line out for everybody. It's common for the lower level condos to have to deal with this problem because the line backs up into their drains, not the drains of the condos above them. I asked the plumber I used to describe the sewer line as one that is shared with the condo above me and he (they) refused, making all kinds of excuses.
If the pipe is clogged then you will need to clean out your pipes. You can usually rent a plumbing drain snake at your local rental yard or you can call a plumber.
Yes, the information in the video would relate more to a toilet with standing water in it, not a toilet during the toilet flushing process. Thanks again for commenting and currently you're the only person in the comment area for this video. @@gregvancom Upon further review, the clog was in my intake air vent pipe on thr roof...we get really high winds, and there was some small leaf and flower build up.
Sometimes when its growling, it's the water supply line. You can usually grab it when it's making noise and feel it vibrating. Other than that you would have to send me a youtube link for me to evaluate further.
You could always jelly a water hose down the vent stack with the water flow on high. Make your wife scream there's shit on the floor so you can turn off the water. Then call a plumber.

We are having the exact same issue & are in the same position
This was the BEST VIDEO! You did an excellent job of explaining the issue and the visuals were extremely helpful
Always glad to hear.
Exceptional explanation and visual presentation of source and symptoms of air trapped in plumbing systems/ downstream plumbing clog effects.
If it's not in those areas, what about the main drain line, like I showed in the video. Let me know if that does not make sense.
This has got to be the best demonstration/explanation on the web. Thank you so much.
You're very welcome!
Great explanation!! However, I live in an apartment building 4 apartments and my apartment has two bathrooms and both toilets bubble at the same time. Could this be a clog from the main sewer? Thank you in advance
Did you ever find out
@@chanel113 It's been a while but what was found (when the apartment complex finally listened to the plumber who suggested a camera probe) was that there where tree roots that had grown into the pipes and anything that was being flushed would get tangled in the roots causing backup.
Classic🤣
Best story ever!
Omg your comment got me cracking tf up
did it leave skid marks?
Sounds like you have a venting issue.
and how do we clear the plug?
Thank you! I had this problem, now i know why.
Thank you! Everything you described is happening to us. This video helps us understand the problem.
You are so welcome!
We call that a "line blockage"!
Had it happen 3 times and it was a nightmare each time.
You could always go down to your local rental yard or hire a plumber with a pipe inspection camera to verify the problem.
Mission accomplished!
So well explained! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thank you. It's been happening for a couple of days now, and I live in an apartment building on the main floor. I'll let maintenance know on Monday.
Thank you! this is super useful and I think its the issue I have at home. I read in other places not to use a drain snake down a toilet as it can scratch the toilet really bad. Is the only way to fix this is to remove the toilet, then use the drain snake? Would those chemical solutions work for this?
It wouldn't hurt to try, but I've never had good luck with drain clearing chemicals.
I've seen those drain chemicals not work and the plumbing back up more a nd went into the bathtub and took the finish off the tub from the drain cleaner chemicals.
Hi thanks for the detailed representation. This was helpful and appreciate you making a video on this.
My pleasure!
Fantastic!
Is there anything I could buy to slove this ...besides a plumber? At walmart or hardware store?
Nope ,it’s a big job to unblock it, and it’s gross ,human excrement is vile , personally I think flushing like this is terrible, composting toilets are more friendly and none of these problems would happen.
I have a similar problem - when we flush - bubbles immediatley surface and we have to hold down the toilet handle for 2 full seconds for the water to empty from the commode. Used tons of chemicals but to no avail- so, having watched your video, nice job, it looks like a clod down the line - or perhaps a clog in the vent as well.
Thanks
Yes, more than likely a clogged pipe and it might not be that far away from the toilet.
Hi Graham
How did you fix this? I have the same issue
@@AnkitSoni_ Plumber routed out all pipes and had to move main vent.
@@gregvancom ---Thank you. I do live in an older home (circa 50's) with the sewer pipes under the concrete basement floor. I am now informed!
What do we do if the toilet when flushed fills up the bowl but doesn’t go down immediately. the water slowly goes and then after the water is gone air bubbles start to come up ?
It sounds like a plugged pipe or toilet bowl. It's the first thing I would check.
How about bubbling toilet when taking a shower, water level does not rise, also no blockage detected by drain camera?
If there is no way at all that water could backup in the manner that I am providing you with this video, then I wouldn't have a clue, but if you find out, I'll love to know.
@@gregvancom is their anything I could pour into the tolit or tub drain to unclog the system ..
Rick what was the outcome, I have same problem, newer lennar home
Trinity..
It's a good place to start and if it doesn't work then try running it though more drain lines.
How did it go? I have literally the same problem. I have water rising in shower cabin. From even flashing toilet.
But the system was built pretty bad, I instantly hit 90degree angles with snake. I'm stuck.
@@arty_lerry7730
Someone flushed a rag that was stuck in the main pipe about 50 ft from where or toilet was. I got some roots in my main line
Thankfully we were able to fish it out (that's how we found out) through an access pipe .
@@wylian84 Did You call-in plumber?
I live in one room "appartment", only I am using this main drain pipe. (I don't have neighbors)
Most likely it's just "poop, parts of food, hair and toilet paper" built over years.
I have a feeling that it would require taking off floor and etc. Which would cost dearly since I'm in Netherlands.
Last couple months my drainage was weaker than usual but obviously I didn't pay much attention as an idiot.
And then basically in 2 days it went to full stop.
Where does the vent pipe go to?
Usually through the wall framing and out the roof.
? What if your air vent is blocked, could it cause the same problem ?
Yes, I've seen it happen before.
How do I fix this
Yes
Get to the main sewage drain and try to reach from inside and clean it in upstream direction. Understand principe of your drain system (in what order toilet, shower or sinks connected to the main drain) and think logically where the major blockage could accumulate in it. Kitchen sink might be grease problem, from toilet it could be unsolvable materials, etc). Generally, try to clean mechanically insides of all drain pipes you can reach with plumbing wire. Also, rinse everything with hot water as it helps to melt and dissolve some of organic debris
What a great and simple to understand video. Thank you so much!!!!
You're welcome and I agree:)
Just got one of these issues. I flushed my toilet and all the "contents" so to speak just started comming up through the shower drain. Have tried a few things, pouring boiling water mixed with dish soap down the drain and plunging my toilet. None seem to have worked on the issue so called a repair man.
Sounds like a clogged drain.
This information is very helpful and the presentation of the information was excellent. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thank you for the amazing video. Do you know any solution?
If the pipe is clogged then call a plumber to run a drain pipe snake down the pipes to clear out the debris that is preventing the water from draining.
our toilet flushes without any problem at all . flushes without any delay all waste and than fills normally . there’s no noises or gurgling any time . what we do get is one bubble as i first flush the toilet but the toilet empties completely . never delays or noises. it’s allways done this. no noises anywhere else . all drains in the house and other bathroom all flush and drain.
Excellent explanation!!!
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching.
i have 3 upstair toilets only 2 are clogged the 2 sinks and 2 bathtubs are clogged we’ve had problems in the past where the toilet wouldn’t flush so we turned on the bath and it would flush but now that doesn’t do anything and we’ve had the upstairs pipes leak through the ceiling and the house is about 8-10 years old now what could be the problem?
In my opinion one of the pipes are clogged. You can hire a plumber or go down to your local rental yard and explain your situation to them and they will provide you with a plumbing scope inspection tool that will allow you to see what's going on inside of those pipes.
Best video!!!! Thank you!!!
Perfect explanation 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you think so!
I'm guessing a crack that might be allowing the water to leak into the drain pipes, but I'm only guessing. Let us know if you find the problem.
thanks for your answer it's something like weird I'm not a plumber but I've watched a lot of videos and I don't watch anything but when I do I share it thanks
My toilet is on the top floor & when I pour a 5 gal. bucket down the bowl it doesn't go down, what could that be?

Also. Dish Washerb drain into disposal is level. Its not routed or situated at a heigjt of 2 x the pipe diameter. To prevent backfilling from disposal back into tub of dishwasher
It's difficult to say for sure, but you could have a clogged drain, broken pipe and soil erosion problems. Not easy things to fix.
I'm having an issue with a big air bubble coming up the flush tank. this air bubble slows down the water going into the toilet bowl. so not all the solids go down on first flush.
I think you might have clogged drain. Email me some video footage of your problem and you can get our email address at our website.
When i flush my upstairs toilet my downstairs toilet bubbles what can i do
You probably need to check to make sure that the drain pipes aren't clogged. This is usually the problem, but no guarantee that it is the problem.
I already know the problem but was hoping you made a video on the diy solution.
Most of the time you have a clogged pipe that needs have a plumbing snake drain cleaning device ran through it.
@@gregvancom I tried the snake and it's too flimsy, looks like I am going to need to remove the toilet to get to the main pipe.
how do i get the clog out ? what is a good method?
A drain clearing snake that can be rented at your local rental yard or contact a plumber in your area.
How do I clean the pipe?
How do we clean that pipe ?
You can contact a plumber or go down to your local rental center and asked them to provide you with the necessary tools.
I have this problem right now...im going to replace the wax seal and pour draino hopefully that will fix it😒
Let us know if it did.
Hi I have an issue, I have air bubble coming out inside the tank itself. It is coming from the black valve on the left . How should I fix this ?
I think the problem might have something to do with air getting into your water supply pipes, but that's about all I could suggest. Let me know if this makes sense.
For goodness sakes, don't put 'wipes' down the toilet. They do NOT dissolve! My sister did this and after a while, one heck of a clog up. P.S. I told her not to do it but she said they were flushable per package, "checks in the mail too.".
Great info, thanks
Glad you liked it and you're welcome.
Whats the best way to unclog
Probably a drain cleaning snake.
I can’t do this. I’m calling my dad!
Same
I love this! lol
Your Dad's a plumber? Lucky Guy!
That's why DAD'S are AWESOME in many different ways! I know because I'm a Grandpa for many years...lol
So if you have to clean them out are you using a snake or are you going outside of your house and opening the cap and shooting water in it
Not usually with snake. Just run it through the pipes. However I have ran water at the same time as running snake, you just have to be careful or you could wrap hose up in snake.
so what is the fix??
It's probably a clogged drain pipe that would need to be cleaned out. You could contact a plumber or use a plumbing tool often referred to as a snake to do it yourself. Some rental yards will be glad to rent these tools to you so that you don't have to purchase them.
This happens when the washer drains. The toilet in the half bath bubbles and then drains out and sewer gas comes into the bathroom and master bedroom.
This is fab thank you so much
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you good video !

I thought venting was my problem, no it's roots in the main sewer line to the street from the magnolia tree out front. A 4" pipe shouldn't be plugging up as much as it does, I live here alone and don't eat that much.
I thought roots was a band
Can Draino solve the problem? I want to get a Plummer as a last resort
I've had bad luck with drain cleaners.
What is solution this PROBLEM??
If the pipe is clogged then you will need to clean out your pipes. You can usually rent a plumbing drain snake at your local rental yard or you can call a plumber.
This just happened to me
I have a problem, but I think it is just a old bowl, not dropping
