Developmental Psychology - Human Development - CH1

- Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
- This lecture was created for Developmental Psychology course. It is based off the material from a popular college textbook (copywrite - can’t say which one) used in my course. The specific class is DEP2004 - Lifespan Development - Chapter 1
This is a lecture that my college students listen too, but I publish for all students who are studying Developmental Psychology. The course I teach is focused toward nursing students.
I am not a professional video production person or actor, just a really good instructor. So, no fancy graphic or dancing animated characters and yes, I am sure I messed up a few words. But if you are in an on-line class that expect you to just read a textbook, this will help. Check out the entire course of lectures.
Thank you! My professor this semester doesn't teach, and we have a test on Wednesday.
My class is coming up in a few days, and I can't thank you enough for these videos. I want to be a step a head,so I'll be watching them all.
Thank you!
You are welcome
Hello i just want to say thank you for these amazing videos, I just took the psychometrician licensure exam in the Philippines and your developmental psychology was instrumental in me passing. Thank you so much♥
Oh my gosh - congrate on your great achievement
I'm having a major exam coming up to enter into a course and developmental psychology is a topic thats majorly emphasized upon. The subject is so vast and having not concentrated much on this subject during my classes, with the time restriction I got now for the prep, going through the books would take me forever. Was searching for playlists that could cover most of developmental psych and found yours! Truly grateful!! Thanks for this wonderful effort you've made. I'm sure it's going to be of great help to me, and so many others ^^
Good studing on your exam. Erikson and Pieget are always big - know them well
Will this gonna be enough to clear entrance
I am so thankful for your teachings. I am studying for the lcsw and your lectures are amazing....& easy to comprehend. Your delivery is quiet enjoyable 😊 / not boring aswell.🎉 47:50
Dear professor,
I want to thank you for helping in my dream of studying psychology.
I am not a US resident, nor a student for now. In my country, universities are free but you have to succeed at some very competitive exams.
In my case the exams are on 3 courses of the 1st year and developmental psychology 101 is one of them, so here I am !!!
I work overtime as a dishwasher and I dont much time to study.
Your videos allow me to learn while I am at work.
I Really appreciate your courses.
I don't think I can thank you enough!!
Thanks for spreading the knowledge to all for free.
I do for people like you - knowledge should not be restricted and it does not have to be when we have thing like UA-cam - glad I can be of assistance
I have an essay due today and I’ve learned so much in this video than I did with my professor, so much information was broken down and well explained to the point I feel super confident for this essay :)!!
You got this! Essay are not so hard, just follow the theory and quote alot (remember to cite). You can even cite a UA-cam video if produced by a reliable source and I am since I am a college professor with a Master's degree is Psy.
Thank you so muchhh
You don't know how much this helped me cuz my uni teachers just don't teach at all and i have my sem exams
But shoutout to you my online professor 🙌🏻👏🏻
your words are thanks enough
I have an exam on behavioural sciences on Monday, you've made me feel ready now. Thank you very much🙏
A sign of a ready student, is a person who goes beyond their textbook and class lecture. I am not going to wish you luck, because you do not need luck as it appears you have prepared. I hope your knew found information flows easily out of your brain during your exam.
Priceless knowledge sharing. Thank you
So clear and well explained, many thanks for this overview of developmental psychology
Thank you so much for this presentation! So happy there’s information out there which I can learn for free. Plus you explain everything so clearly and it’s really interesting to listen to :)
I do my best. Not as easy as having a classroom full of students, but I pretend students are in front of me when I made them.
@@rjbirmingham I am focusing in Psychology and I have barely begun to watch your presentations. Already, I have seen how they are helping me understand the information more and learn more terms involved. Thank you and I appreciate it!
@@mikaellaparra999 It is a such a wild open field of work and study and welcome to rabbit hole of psy
Ditto this
that psy is a rabbit hole - have to find which hole you like best and go deep - I enjoy so many different fields of psy - I tend toward studying human behavior in terms of consumer behavior and adult learning
I was surprised by the complete and secure information. It is important to know about this topic because it allows us to understand ourselves, and to know in detail what things we have acquired over time. Just one question that I would like to ask related to the profession of Psychologist:
What does a developmental psychologist work on?
Pure developmental psychologist are generally researchers. Most often people who do child psy will have a minor in developmental. Also, people who go in school psy. Hope that helps
This is one the best educational resources on youtube. Worth the while.
Thank you so much for those kind words!
It is true, it is a completely complete source that can help all psychology students. The video reminds us that resilience develops in childhood.
In addition, this video was very important and interesting to me since we can see how, since we are children, thanks to the stimulation we receive, it will affect our adult lives. This is also influenced by the development that we are going to have, how we are going to make decisions, the management of emotions that we will have.
Thank for this presentation am really quite happy to learned important about brain development and more ideas concern psy.
Thank you! My prof is great, but hearing it again helps so much!
Great to hear!
Thank you cause I have my AP Psych exam today and my teacher didn't get around to teaching us this unit so this really helped!!
Glad you found me then - sorry no chapter 2 - I don't teach that one - I only deal with people once they are out of the womb - lol - but all the other chapters are there
Would you happen to have ch2 available? I am an audio learner and this has helped me in my dev psych class.
Sorry, I never did chapter 2 because I did not cover that material in my class. My students would get this material in another class so I never felt I should cover it as well. However, I think I will be making for youtube folks but not till Oct when I am finished with Economics - sorry
Dang bi was gonna ask the same question
Is this based on the book. Human development: a lifespan view?
yes
I love this woman she’s so good
To Kind
Hi-Would you happen to have a downloadable powerpoint for the lectures? Excited to go through these for my class.
I made these myself - I do post the powerpoints alone the powerpoints themselves need the audio to make them true study material - also to be honest, people have taken my slides and dumbed either own voice over them and given incorrect information - as such I do not post the raw slides
Im not even in college yet but i came here because I’m very curious and want to learn something new.
Thank you so much. I have a better understanding.
glad it helped
Is this a good review for counseling students taking the CPCE?
thank you - reviews are always good before any exam
This is the best most thorough and easy to listen to lesson I have heard on this subject! Thanks so much it saved me!!
So happy to hear it helped!
I agree and I also find the video interesting, since it is a video that explains in a very simple and adequate way the way in which a person grows. I also confirm that the childhood stage is the foundation for optimal psychological development.
It should be noted that cognitive and emotional development have a lot to do with adult life. In addition, this development is something that is shaped in the different stages of life.
Thank you for your valuable contribution
Thanks a lot
Thank you for your kind words
Thank you Sir. stay safe and health
You are welcome and love your avitar - PS I am a lady - at least last time I looked - LOL
Which book is this based on? And thank you for this!
Theories of Lifespan Development by Dr. Mary Ann Hollingsworth. It's a brilliant book! You can find it on Amazon.
It's in chse board class 12, ch-1.
Hi, are these slides downloadable? Very helpful, thank you!
here for my National Counselor Exam...thanks for upload
Glad it helped - good luck on the exam
where can i get chapter 2
I did not do a chapter 2 video - In my class I do not teach it because our students get a whole separate class on that subject
@@rjbirmingham What class would that be?
Is this for bsc nursing also
In the state I teach, nursing student's take this course. I specifically designed this course for that group of student's, so there is a health care focus.
I thank you so much, I cannot afford the book so this helps greatly
one day i will do chapter 2 but every other chapter is there
Please do it @@rjbirmingham
Should i watch all the videos to clear my entrance under the psychology development topic
I am not sure what you are asking but my lectures covers all chapters in the textbook exect Ch 2
@@rjbirmingham may i know which textbook u r talking about
@@rjbirmingham actually i am to give a pg entrance test in August in india . So for that i have topic development psychology in it. So my question is should i watch whole of the playlist or some specific topic to cover my development psychology topic?
@@NS-no5yw Do to certain restrictions I am not able to say the name of the book - however, it is common textbook for Intro to Developmental Psy - I do believe there is a new edition that just came out, but the lectures still follow it
@@NS-no5yw I know that in India you have a different testing system for college than we have in the states. Piaget's stage theory is a must - Erik Erickson I believe would be important - cannot hurt to know Freud's psyosexual development theory and Albert Bandura social learning theory
Ma'am I have a question
Emily seldom has time for breakfast because she attends morning classes. So she feels the urge to eat since her stomach is grumbling and feels empty.
This is an example of DRIVE or NEED
This is an excellent question. Due to the limitation of comments on UA-cam, I am going to over simplify the answer. The need for food is a basic need, as it is required for keeping the body running. The brain’s main job is to keep you alive.
However, needs have hierarchy and while physical needs, such as maintaining a body, is a primary need, at this moment, it is not the highest need that Emily desires to fulfill.
Let’s assume that being successful in college is an esteem need for her, and she has extra fuel that her body can tap into (even a bit of fat will do). This extra energy can be used to satisfy the bodies need for fuel. That need is then satisfied, for a short time.
With the need for fuel satisfied then the esteem need will take president, the desire to satisfy her esteem need will drive her to want to get to class on-time. However, her body is warning her that it will need fresh fuel soon.
The need for fuel after sleeping is great because the body has been in a type of starvation mode (no fresh fuel for a period of time). Esteem is a social need and is secondary to primary needs (physical and safety). As the body needs fuel and she is lacking fresh fuel, the brain may not completely allow her full access and use of her brain, keeping the limited fuel for necessary areas.
One can live without knowing math formulas, but you must breathe. Thus, she may find that she cannot concentrate well during class. Her brain will not fully function till it gets a fresh supply (physical needs will always come first).
Ok, this is really over simple explanation, but I hope you see how the systems work together.
@@rjbirmingham Wow Ma'am 👏👏 you are so authentic... very well explained. You presented the whole picture and did not jump directly to the one word answer. An ideal teacher...
@@rjbirmingham What I am understanding from your reaction is that it is an example of a need. But to be precise, the words "urge to eat" they are really confusing and deviating me to think that it may be a drive.
I chose need as an answer in the exam but just these three words are making me nervous about my decision.
@@vicharkranti142 I would say if it is a test question (depending on choices) it is a need - the body will send a signal that it 'needs' to each. In this case the 'urge' is the signal for the need.
If the question when on and said the person then looked in the fridge and choose an apple, the apple would be the want to fulfill the need to eat.
@@rjbirmingham One more request Ma'am,
I may have to provide proof for this.
So could you please suggest any authentic book ?
This is a very important exam for me and this one is a very crucial question. So please...
Good day. Is there has Chapter 2 Prenatal Development in your channel?
In my head but not on video 😐 I never made a chapter 2 because as I joke I do not deal with people till they are out of the body - at my school this material is covered in another class - I guess I need to get off my but and make one - you will find all the other chapters
Thank you!
You are very welcome
What reference did u used for this?
due to copywrite law I am unable to name the textbook but it follows one of the most popular one used in Universities - these were developed for my own class - thus fallow the chapters
Thanks
Welcome - glad you found it
i hope you'll continue to do more vid like this!
where is Chapter 2?
thank you ...
glad it helped
Love 🙂 Thank you❤❤❤
Welcome
You very good ❤
Wait, where’s the part where they learn to see through their mommy and daddy’s masks? I’m confused.
This is only Chapter 1. It is a basic overview of the concepts of Developmental Psy.
I am studying Human development at AIU.
Nice - How do you like AIU
Thank you so much for this
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much! It helped a lot I really appreciate it. If you dont mind, I would perhaps like to speak to you if you ever have any time, if you don't, I don't mind, I'm a stranger and I'm not quite sure how you'd feel about that 😆
How can I help you? Perhaps you could tell me what you want to discuss and I might be able to help or direct you toward someone/place that can.

Is there something about that spot? This is Urie Bronfenbrenner concept.
