Hi everyone, I really hope you enjoy this new episode. I am delighted to let you know that when you spend over £45 on nicolasfairford.com you will get a complimentary Botanica art print. To clarify, once the value of your online basket on the webshop has exceeded £45, you will be able to choose one of the two prints available in the online store. When you add this to the basket, the value of the item (£15) will be deducted from the total.

Hi Nicholas! I completely agree about trying different things. I'm a 56 year old wife/mother/grandmother and I STILL don't know what I want to be when I grow up 😂🤷‍♀ I've been a medical biller, nurse, stay home wife, and an author. My biggest dream was to dance ballet. Unfortunately, my parents never had the money to pay for lessons, so my passion is only in my dreams. My advice to younger people is this: try everything, imagine everything, don't be afraid to fail because failure is only closing a window to open another door. Life is an ADVENTURE. Every path you take should be one that is appreciated, good OR bad.

You're never too old to learn to dance just for the pleasure of it😊 Just because you decide something isn't for you it's not failing it's learning and growing as a person. I was naturally a good cook so studied catering I qualified but after a several false starts in industry decided it wasn't for me. I'm still passionate about food, love entertaining and I don't regret my time at college because I enjoyed the course it was great experience. All part of life's rich pattern!

I truly believe that homes, apartments, whatever living space you're in, speaks to you. I cannot decorate my living space until I live in it for a while. There is no specific time. The home we're in now took me a month before I knew where things were going to go because I got to know the house, live in it, listen to all its sounds. etc. My husband kept asking me when I was going to decorate and when I told him I was waiting for the house to speak to me and then I would know. Of course he didn't understand this at all. But when she ( I name all my homes) did speak to me knew exactly what to do and where things should be.

(Laura Ashley still exists online. Check out their clearance sales) I think the reason many old homes are ruined is that the people don’t care for the past, in which case do not buy an old home. In my humble 1928 home I’m always trying to put things back to as original as I can. Your house history is unique! I love your current place! It’s the right size, I love your outdoor space, the walk ability of the town, it’s wonderful.

Sophie on that plaid draped ottoman just screams home!!!! Makes me wonder where did all those beautiful furnishings and art end up. Its so important to bloom where you are planted. Right now it's here in this apartment , with all the lovely perks. Its good to sometimes just be content. Everyone wants more, bigger, better. Just breathe, and love this special little sanctuary that you have created for you and Sophie.

A lot of youtubers feel the need to be super energetic and bubbly. And it can become quite tedious. And feel very forced. Watching your videos relaxes me and it's like a refreshing moment away from all the crazy life things that happen.

    Hello Nicolas,
How blessed you are to have lived in so many lovely homes and still so young to have achieved this. In my lifetime I have moved home through one reason or another often sadly not by choice but necessity; changes in circumstances, jobs and so on. I can understand you getting itchy feet. But you seem really happy where you are now. In all of the houses/ flats/ apartments where I have lived none were as beautiful as those you have lived in and none ever felt like home just somewhere to rest my bones. I am now 69 and living on a pension so unlikely to achieve my dream home now; but I keep it in perspective by being thankful that while my flat is tiny I have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in. No good being bitter about what I lost and will never have.

I’ve probably said this before, but this is my favorite video so far. I’m so happy you found your passion in life. I have always loved to decorate and redecorate, but I have never approached it the way you did, studying all those books over and over. It is obviously what you were meant to do with your life. Thank you for being so open and creating such an interesting video.

Nicholas, I loved hearing about your past residences, what brought you to them, and how you decorated them. The large Scottish apartment was stunning. Your current place, where you have built a community, is fabulous also. My residences have been my passion as well, each one curated, each one chosen for some excellence of location. After I have fully furnished and decorated them, I know it won’t be long before I am itching to find and decorate a new location. In fact, as I write this, I am in the process of moving, and for the same reason you had once, which is my previous place was too isolated. This time I am moving to a nice community and I am going to try and stay put. If I get the urge for a new decorating project, I will just redecorate my current place as my budget allows.

What a great video! So enjoyed hearing your story on life, love and growing into the person you are. What beautiful homes you've lived in, all the while learning about design, architecture and history. Thank you for sharing your past! You have indeed been fortunate in your young life to have had these experiences and you yourself realize this and show gratitude and remain very down to earth and relatable. So enjoyed this Nicolas!

Hello, Nicolas. You are always so open and giving to us. I love that about you. You truly are an old soul. Living alone is an art, not everyone can do so. But if one learns to do so, and enjoy their own company, it is a blessing and a gift. I have bounced down many a dirt road in my lifetime, but I have learned to live completely on my own, and love it. This is one of my favorite episodes. Thank you for sharing so much with us. I love the Scottish home by the sea. I would also love to hear Sophie's story - how she came to be your little girl. (I have also just ordered something from your shop, and hope I also get your print to bring beauty into my home.)

Thank you for sharing your life in previous homes. One of the many things I appreciate about you is your admission that you have made mistakes. Some people try to present themselves as perfect. Your obvious great talent combined with humility is charming. I look forward to future videos.

Nicolas -- this episode was great. Not boring at all! Enjoyed hearing about your former homes, and especially about how you feel that you needed to live alone, be on your own, and make your own decisions. Doing that really has allowed you to grow and be comfortable with yourself. A lesson we should all learn at some time or another. It is funny how you never wanted to end up in Edinburg, and you have and you seem very content. Keep talking to us, it's great hearing about your life and style. Again, great episode.

Hello Love, it’s Jill from Richardson, TX. You are a delight! I have been watching you for awhile now, and so appreciate you sharing your life, loves and home. I can put pieces together of you and your journey! Thank you for sharing! This comment is for all the mean people saying anything negative about this beautiful human. “What is your lamp doing in front of the painting, STOP, saying negative bull crap! If you don’t have nothing nice to say, then please go away! You are SUNSHINE! God Bless you!

Boring?.......Nicholas! This episode is the most delightful and interesting to date for me. Through many episodes I've come to recognise that a part of your irresistible charm is your willingness and ability to be open and transparent with your audience. Appropriately. Getting through your fascinating but extensive material this time to camera without ever being boring (!) but indeed with sustained articulateness and elegance of delivery was quite a feat. You are now a true professional. Thank you so much for this one.

This was a lovely video and so beautifully expressed. For some of us with partners married for years and year and then end up on our own, it is a long time adjusting and many of us move and move. But as you say, sometimes it is better to stay in a place and gradually decorate with things you love and want forever. You do have a flat that is like a home, with the wonderful courtyard for you do entertain or just be there by yourself. I am very happy for you that you are doing so well in your endeavours and friendships and new relationship. No need to rush, just take your time and enjoy. So enjoy all of your videos and your decorating and of course your recipes and your flower arranging videos. All the best to you.

Thanks Nicolas, very interesting video sharing your experiences of house living over the last 14years.. I have followed you for quite sometime now and have seen you share your experiences in all you do through these videos. Your taste for things is so much like me or I am much like you. Never thought there would be anyone else that would resemble my likes as much as you do. Even down to the music you mentioned you play while at home to relax, exactly what I do or even playing nice music in the car. Cheers!

Hi! This has been one of your absolutely best shows! I really enjoyed hearing about your life and seeing all the growth you have done for yourself and that you took the time to learn to be by yourself and to learn all the new things you have learned and are not afraid of being by yourself, which is true growth! Sounds like your life is balanced very well now! I am 73, and been married twice, and divorced twice. Learned a lot and learned a lot about myself in the process, and I am a happy person. Have a great time learning more about yourself!
    Love and light to you
