It's great to know there are others like me who've kept and cherish their cassettes.Dont let anybody try to make you feel outdated.Music is therapeutic.Listening to a cassette from 1984 right now on a Crosley all in one entertainment center. The best gift I ever got.
Wow!!! That wall of tapes is unbelievable!!! You should be proud, so cool!! Killer tape deck. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a cassette through a nice deck, only cheaper ones or boom boxes. Cheers!!!
Billy wow man that is an awesome array of tapes I used to collect cassette in the 80s and 90s which I still have lost of them mainly hop hop and some r&b and pop titles I definitely need to grab me a player down the line after seeing this I'm gamed to get one great stuff Billy. Lovellandrew
This was a blast! I love the way the shelves look. Nice collection too. I think it's great they are still being made as well. Death Angel, Ozzy, Judas Priest, smaller labels are still making new tapes and I get them from time to time. Woah a Nak! You are absolutely correct, you haven't heard a cassette sound great until you hear it on a Nak. I've been obsessed with those since I had a 680 ZX for a few months (selling for a family member). I found a CR-7 last year but lost out after my repair shop guy threw in the towel on it over a year later. Couldn't get it working. Now I'm on the search again for a Nak. Like I want one BAD man. I'm always on the hunt for thrash metal cassettes but you and I are probably looking for the same ones! Hmmm tapes are pressed too I guess LOL calling them tapes (like I do) also drives the audiophile guys nuts. They are always policing terms explaining that cassettes are cassettes and reels are tapes. I'm like nope, it takes too long to say cassette and when I was growing up they were tapes. Besides, how many people really get to be in a studio or have reel equipment anyway? Now I'm planning where to put my customized shelves. Later Billy ~Corey
Billy, that cassette wall looks great. I need something like that, so I can get the cassettes organized. Most of them are accessible, but they are scattered. The tape deck is something else. Thanks, Chris
Chris, the construction and assembly was actually quite simple. Best of luck on getting something together. It's a shame we just cant go out and buy nice cassette or cd shelves like we can vinyl storage shelves at IKEA.
@@BillyHurst When I was living in Orlando I found some shelves on the curb that looked about right, but when I got them home I discovered that if cassettes are about 5 inches these shelves were 4 inches. They worked to lay on their sides. Close but no cigar!
Hey Billy, The GREAT WALL looks absolutely amazing! Almost as impressive as the 8-track wall.😉 Good point... not being able to pause and backup the video while commenting and it drives me nuts, and I remember being able to do it at one point. Great job on the shelves! looks very professional! And yes I did notice that cassette tape of Psycho Circus from Kiss what great find also love the tape deck...WOW gorgeous! Great to see you again and fantastic video! Take care ~ Jeff
Hey Jeff, thanks for dropping by. You're right, sometimes watching videos and leaving comments on the phone is very tough...almost impossible. Thanks for the compliments on the cassette shelves. I'm very happy with how they turned out. I knew you would notice the handful of newer, hard to find KISS tapes LOL I need to stock up on the older stuff though. I've let it pass by me too many times. Take care my friend. Billy-
Such a killer wall of cassettes! I collect cassettes as well but have no collection like yours! My CDs and vinyl collections are much bigger! I’d do some sort of trade with you for cassettes or some kind of VCLT kinda thing! That Lana album is great! All the best to you brother!
Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words. Shoot me a message on Discogs (link is on my main youtube page in the banner), or Facebook, or Insta. take care, Billy-
Hey Billy, really cool video. I have never been into cassettes, but so many people here in the VC talk so much about cassettes. When I was young and my parents had a boombox they had plenty of cassettes in the house. When I really started collecting music CD's were popular and I guess I just always over looked cassettes.
Thanks for tuning in. It's really a nostalgia thing for me. Same with the 8-tracks. If you were never into them when you were younger, I can see you not being attracted to the format as an adult.
Man that came out awesome. I've wanted one of those Nakamichi decks since the came out. I loved watching them flip the cassette's in the store. I thought that was one of the coolest features ever. One of my biggest regrets was not grabbing an RX202 at Goodwill a few years back. I went back a few hours later and it was gone. It's amazing what those RX-505's are going for these days...hope you got a good deal.
Thanks Steve! Yeah, I don't need to remind you that you should have grabbed that puppy! You're right, these things are going for a pretty penny these days, especially in nice working order and serviced. This one had recently been serviced and I private messaged the seller and we came to an agreement on a price we both could live with. I got a much better deal than if I had bought it directly off eBay.
Turned out awesome Billy, and again thank you for the VCLT cassette package and yes you are right, if you have the proper deck, and a decent system cassettes sounds awesome, take it me, I play ALOT of cassettes and I do basic maintenance once a month on my deck, cleaning the heads, pin wheel etc, and as far as cassettes that haven’t been played in a long time I just FFW to end and RWD back to loosen up and they are good to go, again bro that rack turned out amazing and if there’s something you’re looking for, let me know and I may have some classic country cassettes you might be interested in, keep the cassettes rolling!!!
Dan, thanks for the kind words my friend. I couldn't agree with you more on the importance of maintenance and upkeep not only of your deck, but the tapes themselves. I learned this from the 8-tracks I've been working with for the past few years. Nothing will teach you patience like refurbishing a stack of 40 year old 8-tracks so you can play them and enjoy them for another 40 years! LOL Take care, Billy-
Had cassettes back when they first appeared and into the 70’s. I don’t collect them much now but if I find something interesting I’ll pick them up if cheap at garage/estate sales. Trying to limit my dollars to 331/3 vinyl and CD’s. My mix tapes way back were reel to reel you could get a lot of music on one reel. Still have equipment for all formats. The Nakamichi’s are great. Nice use of your wall space!
Thanks for dropping by and for the comment. Yeah, you could really get a lot of music on one of those reels. Unless of course you were running it at 7 1/2 IPS. Then she would chew through some tape, but man oh man would it sound killer! Take care, Billy-
looks great. I play cassettes on my Walkman and cassette deck in my living room. In my car I have a cd player only, I wish it had cassette option. I only have great white once bitten, cinderella night songs and Jefferson starship, poison open up and say ahh on cassette format.
Hey Billy. Long time watcher first time commenting. Love your channel! I tried to hold back on cassettes for a while but I succumbed to collecting as it’s nostalgic to when I was a kid. I’ve only got about 125, but have found some gems including dark side of the moon, Disraeli gears, velvet underground and all of my 80’s guilty pleasures, ie. poison. What are your top most prized cassettes?
First of all, welcome!! Thanks for watching and for introducing yourself. You've got a great jumpstart on a killer collection by the sound of some of the titles you rattled off. Some of my favorites or gems would have to be some of the original metal stuff like Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Danzig...stuff like that. Also some of the more obscure metal or doom metal is cool, hard to find and pretty sought after. I also love finding those late 80's, early 90's rap and hip-hop cassettes like NWA, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, etc. Take care, Billy-
Where's your Discogs link? I'm currently working on a "mini wall" of cassettes myself (basically consists of 4 napa valley 100 ct units all pushed together) I went all in, so to speak on cassettes -again!, (I'm 45) now I'm hooked all over again, like I got w/ vinyl! Being a music lover is a little TOO much fun at times..but not fun on the wallet at the same time LOL
Do you have a link to your discogs store? Also would you be willing to sell that Pantera I am the night cassette you have on your wall of tapes? I would pay a fair amount if so. Let me know. Great video!
Scuba thanks for stopping by. My Discogs profile is linked on the bottom right hand corner of my cover photo on the top of my home page here on UA-cam. I don’t sell on Discogs and I’m not interested in selling the Pantera. Thanks and good luck though.
I wish I had all those megadeth and Metallica tapes, Megadeth and Metallica are some of my favorite band, where do you find all these. Where I live, these things only show up never and are expensive on eBay.
Classic Rock Collector thanks for stopping by. These are tapes I’ve collected for years. Yes, even here they are very hard to find and super expensive.
BillyHurst I’ve only been collecting for a year or so, and I have about 120ish tapes, I’ve actually found a place that sells rather good tapes for a good price. I got British Steel, Long Live Rock and Roll, and High N’ Dry there. I’m a big priest, Megadeth and Metallica fan, so I’m hoping I find some of those tapes there. And congrats on the new record store, I’m looking forward to seeing the store ready to visit!
Thanks for the concern, Angelo bit the heat barely comes out of this old register. Like seriously. This house was built in 1955 and I can literally put my hand on the register and leave it there indefinitely. It is not hot. It’s more just something we didn’t feel like removing.
It's great to know there are others like me who've kept and cherish their cassettes.Dont let anybody try to make you feel outdated.Music is therapeutic.Listening to a cassette from 1984 right now on a Crosley all in one entertainment center. The best gift I ever got.
Amen to that!! Have a great night.

What a great title for your video. Keep up the good work.
Super fun video. Your shelves look fabulous. - Heather
Thank you Heather. It's all starting to come together over here.
Looks amazing, Billy. Quite the collection you’ve got there.
Holy crap this amazing. Looks like when I was a teen, walls of cassettes ! Your metal tapes and your deck is insane!
Thanks David! I'm pretty darn happy with how everything turned out. You can never have enough metal in your collection. :)
Great video and awesome wall of cassettes. Your shelving turned out fantastic, well done Billy and your brother-in-law. Cheers 🤘
Thank you for tuning in and for the kind words. Billy-
Never thought of setting them on their sides like that. Great idea! Gotta build one for myself now.
You guys did a great job Billy. Boy do you have a lot of cassettes. Makes my collection look like a tic tac. Enjoyed! Andre’
Andre', thanks man. It's a sickness...LOL
That wall of cassettes is crazy.
The Bob the Builder music was funny.
Rich, I'm glad it got a laugh out of you. I giggled my ass off as I put it in there. LOL

Nice indeed, Love the Megadeth Vhs tapes in the shelf, cheers from Vancouver Canada
Thanks for stopping by! Billy-
The rack looks awesome brotha! ...and I don't need to say anything about the 505!
Thanks Brandon! ...and thanks again for those amazing OG Skynyrd's.
Billy, that cassette wall looks great. I need something like that, so I can get the cassettes organized. Most of them are accessible, but they are scattered. The tape deck is something else. Thanks, Chris

Nice set up Bob oh err Billy.
Great DIY shelves for the cassettes? Bob the Builder was hilarious. How in the world do you have a Psycho Circus cassette? That is so cool!

I just found my little brief case of cassettes. I'll show them in my next video if I remember.
Vinyl Richie definitely looking forward to seeing that video
I'd love to see them!
Ayya baboi super
Nice carnal

Great video!
For the cassette mounts did you screw the horizontals to the verticals or glue them?
I don't have a wall of cassettes, but I have The Wall on cassette.
How long have you been collecting for? Collection looks cool 😊
Do they still make new cassettes of old albums not used but néw cassettes

I have a bunch of blank tapes from the 90s if your interested

When you travel through Cali you have a place to crash
Thanks!
