Nigel Farage on immigration: 'The days of employing cheap labour are finished'
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- Nigel Farage praises the UK government's newly-announced points-based system, which will deny visas to ‘low-skilled’ workers starting in 2021.
The former MEP and Brexit Party leader called concerns about the impact on the care sector ‘scare stories’.
Weighing in on Greece's demand for the return of the Elgin Marbles as part a post-Brexit trade deal, he says they would have probably been destroyed if the UK hadn't looked after them.

of course industry is complaining, this policy would force them to pay higher wages!
If businesses are going to pay higher wages, then they're going to charge more for their products.
YorickReturns or move to other country :) Uk want to chalange with China, India Us alone outside Eu:)) let see that ... more Indians so great
Or force them to hire more British citizens that will demand better work conditions and better pay.
Every workforce should hire two British citizens (at least) to every one foreign migrant I believe.
The days of cheap foreign labour into the UK are coming to an end at last.
It might also force them to invest in automation.
@@adrianceasar5620 most of the industries that can move has either already moved, or turned to automation.
Most of what's left are jobs that can't move. A delivery driver can't be moved to China. How is he gonna deliver something in Birmingham if he's in China?
Drivers, retail clerks, hairstylists, bartender, bank manager, lawyer, doctors.
Most jobs can't move overseas.
Some can be automated. Example AI is at a point where it can do the job of contract lawyers or radiologists.
the care home worker issue could be easily fixed. Pay carers more. The Current average wage is ridiculous.
Who's going to pay for it?
sandlerr the companies that own the care homes...
@@daniel7767 Meaning the elderly, or the taxpayer, is going to have to pay more for their service at a care home. I highly doubt the companies that run the care homes want to see their profits diminish or drop, so they'll just simply raise the price of their services, if cheap labour isn't available anymore.
@@sandlerr7056 Yeah and the wages will increase? Your point?
British_Imperialism aren’t care homes for elderly people run by the public system in the UK?
Train young Brits to work in the health industry. This isnt a difficult question.
I would question why an Italian with a languages degree would want to come the UK to work as a waiter.
Becuase he can and he wants too.
I don't understand why english say they can't get a job in their own home town when the other 4million migrants did and have mortgages on a house.
It's not the forefinger the problem...it's the English that are lazy....get rid of benefits and the problem is solved....give me 25k in benefits a year and I'll quit my job on the spot.
Twisted British people don’t want dole heads coming for a free ride and it’s the low expectations of immigrants happy to share properties to cope with low wages that cause the hourly rate to drop. It’s not that British people don’t like foreigners, it’s that British people don’t like the attitude of immigrants willing to accept low wages and thus making British people look bad for wanting adequate wages. Stop making British people the enemy and start refusing to take low paid jobs to make the British look bad... it’s not working
English dont want them foreigners comin over here and making their dole queues longer. Back in 1992 it took two mintues to collect their dole. Now it takes 7.
Only crucial difference being little Englanders have never had a bomb dropped on them.
SOUND OF GUGU they’re not going to stop doing that since these immigrants likely have no money coming into the UK
It's almost like his deep interest in languages led him to try working and living in another country, in order to achieve total fluency in a 2nd language.
Insane, when has fluency in 2 languages ever been an advantage to a person with a degree in languages?
Its almost like the loser wanted to improve his life chances.
Share holders in the big contracting companies will just have to take a cut in their annual cash grab. One less Porsche or one less luxury cruise. Pay ordinary people a decent living wage and vacancies will soon be filled.
When did the rich ever do that? They would rather close their business in the UK and open it in a poorer country.
Rich people could donate towards flood defences it's funny doesn't flooding also affect the rich in those areas?
This is disturbing news. I was planning on moving to Earth and getting a job in one of the North Korean gulags. I am qualified PhD. in Genocide of Multi-Planet Species, MSc. Laser-based Artillery, and I have a diploma in Ethical Probing. My plan was to move to the UK, claim enough benefits to buy a boat, and then sail to North Korea. Now what am I supposed to do?
Collette Post the reason we have the flooding is due to EU policies! They don’t allow dredging any more or river defences!
I love the assumption that there are hordes of Brits just gagging to get out into wet, cold field and spend the day doubled up over a row of asparagus. Also, obviously they'll be happy to leave their homes and pay to live in a caravan while at work. Is that your career, plan, Alan?

A hotel waiter being paid £20 thousand, wtf, was he selling crack to get that money?

A hotel waiter being paid £20,000?!? These people really haven't got a clue what happens in the real world.
totaly agree!!!!
It's only £400 pounds a week. If the minimum wage is increased by another £1.30 per hour then it's easy. Maybe employers will put wages up themselves if they want to employ foreign workers.
@Kevin Burrow i work as a waiter i do 40 hours a week in a hotel i get around 800 - 900 quid a month.
Would never get anything close to that as a basic but in a decent hotel with tips some might get close to that? Although your point still stands because only their basic salary would be included.
That's standard here in in London, but I can imagine it's much cheaper elsewhere. At minimum wage/ 37.5 hours it would be just short of 16,000. Will be even less if under 25.
Well it's a good thing that they don't want cheap labour and controlling immigration...but can they start investigating cheap labour within UK specially in London I see many people not knowing minimum wages and employment laws working for low money and employers exploiting them.....there should be change in recruitment process within the country too
They won't change that because they like people being exploited

Of course- they have to test the person being interviewed!! They have to put his ideas to test otherwise what is the point! They are trying to see if his ideas stand up to scrutiny

@Brighton Domiciliary care as in assistance where requested in the domestic residence would be a great exception. A company like Helping Hands or HomeInstead would be safe and satisfactory.
Care workers and Nurses are probably going to be able to get in on the points based system, so long as they can speak English, which of course they should because otherwise they are potentially risking the lives of those they’re meant to care for. Yet another pointless question to ask.
so nigel farage wants:
1) skilled foreigners to compete with skilled english workers for the best jobs. lowering the amount of english people in skilled work.
2) to increase the amount of unskilled english people in our country to meet the demand of unskilled work that will no longer be filled by foreign unskilled labour and/or
3) to put skilled english and foreign workers into unskilled jobs to meet the demands of unskilled labour in this country.
the way to achieve this goal is to:
1) make education worse thus creating more unskilled workers in the uk in order to meet the unskilled demand that will happen
2) force skilled workers who can't find skilled work because there is competition with foreign skilled workers, to work in unskilled jobs. lowering quality of life.

"And the days of employing cheap English labour from the north have just begun"
Sounds like an improvement , strict criteria with no obligation to accept any foreigners
Yes 10 countries joined the EU in 2004 but the 14 countries that were already in the union had a choice whether or not to allow the citizens of the 10 new countries to live and work in their country and only 3 out of the 14 did allow them in and the UK was one of those three.
And our country benefitted massively from the influx of skilled workers and young professionals who came to the UK, set up business or studied here at UK universities and then continued to fulfil their ambitions, pay their taxes and start lives/families here (I know many in their late twenties/early thirties). Of course the double-edged sword was that it allowed in cheaper, unskilled labour, but the reality is, this is a drop in the ocean compared to the value of the educated and ambitious, who came from countries especially in the East of Europe, where it's simply harder to start a successful life given the layers of beaurocracy, workers rights, and well acknowledged corruption. There is a massive brain drain in the east, and the UK took full advantage of that, all it does is pay the small fee of £350m a week to receive an entire cohort of young, readymade and educated people - the value which far exceeded the cost. But we voted against that, in part a resistance to the inevitability of change, a belief that we can somehow preserve a culture of people (which in itself is plural and contradictory) against a massive tide of growing interconnectivity - which in the most ironic way will continue, just under a different guise. My deepest sympathies lie with those whose lives won't really change for the better at all.

Patriotic Alternative is the only party I will trust on immigration and fair wages for low--paid workers.
@eagle PHD They're literally the only party that will unapologetically stand for their values
Paying low wages is just supplementing employers, as the government tops them up to a living wage that the taxpayers have to pay for.
I work in the care sector and I agree with Farage:
Make the job better paid and more people will apply/less people will leave.
It’s called “supply and demand” and it works like a charm
Talk about starting an interview with a narative in mind haha
We Brits are paying for this black muppet to talk BULLSHIT THATS WHAT I CALL EXPLOITATION
ZZZZZZzzz
Stop all immigration. We need to stop focusing on GDP growth and more on quality of life, cohesion, defending our culture and way of life. These are priceless. We are living in an OVER crowded small island.
Another biased Sky interviewer taught common sense by Nigel Farage.
@@pinkbeatle2012 No, Farage is a smart, self-serving political grifter that probably laughs at his idiotic followers while he lines his pockets with millions.
Sir Nigel, everyone!
Who did the jobs before any immigrants arrived?
@Joe---The white working class man/woman.My mother ,back in the 50's ,worked for the local council cleaning old peoples homes it was called home help and was provided to old people free. And no,she didn't need a degree from a university to do it either.Didn't have a car either her ''round '' was done by walking or bus.
english people dont like foreigners ,,,,that is all about !!!
@@sailor7958 That's not true. Look at the millions they let live among them without any backlash.

English people - WE DUN LOIKE FOREIGNERS...
Also English People - Lets colonize half of the world and force them to learn English language and English culture... Yeay colonizers....
The locals did the jobs, but cheap immigrant labour allowed businesses to pay low wages that locals couldn't really live on. Minimum wages need to increase.
Can’t barrage the Farrage. Keep it up Nige!
Hmmm this “news anchor” isn’t biased at all is he? Lol
Isn't he from a former British colony?
I’m glad that knowledge of the English language is a requirement as part of the immigration point system
I remember this commentator from a previous interview, I would have thought he would have learned lessons but no !
Here's a thought help are own first then worry about the ones who have actually gone through the correct process to be here.

We simply can’t afford the welfare state as it stands
So great how the interviewer kept up with the "bait & switch" technique on poor Farage but he was having none of it and was cool and calm through it all. Farage has a somewhat old school nature to him that would've been relevant in the mid to late 80's?! And I like that notion he carries as well. Wish we had someone like him down under...Bravo good sir!
Hmmm I wonder who will replace them 🤔
Unemployed Brits or machines.
@@MrOzzy281 Except that Brits refuse to do these low paid jobs to the jobs will lie empty.
just a guess but ,brits ?

Dont get me wrong I am all for empowering my country and making it the greatest and also making sure our sterlin doesnt not drop below the dollar but I know alot of people on benefit who just refuse to work and mum mid 50s nurse for 20years works sometime weekends

Socialism doesn't work, even when it's dressed up as nationalism.
@@YorickReturns Immigration should be reversed, if anything net migration should be negative.
myself i rember waking up in the morning and having a good job by the evening with money i could live on .
Over the last 20 years that has changed , Getting up in the morning looking for a job that wont pay enough for the rent as someone will always take the job for less money .
Taxi drivers . 5 people hot seating 1 car , Living in one room of a 3 bedroom house .
Hair cut anyone , 1 building 15 people living upstiars . No one can cut hair .
Building trade , Used to be a min of 10 pound an hour with all the right tickets , Bosses could hire 3 low skilled people for that .
Even people like dentists that have been trained and educated on the internet .
Evenone needs to live but so do the people of the UK . Train us , pay us a living wage and we will make this country greater than it is allrdy
20 years under the Tories
How did I know he was going to say Romania at the start there?
We have more than enough economic invaders, we are a small island, immigration should have stopped years ago.
Absolutely, there's now over 10% of people in Scotland are English immigrants looking for jobs. They shouldn't have been allowed a vote at the last indyref and Scotland wouldn't have been having 90% of it's laws made by unelected faceless beaurocrats in a foreign country by now.
A fox news Britain channel is needed here desperately!
Nigel is Spot On! in the reasons for people voting for Brexit!
Terrible naive interviewer. The Bulgarian welder qualifies because he has a skill which is in short supply in the U.K. The Italian has no skill advantage over a U.K. citizen, for waiting at table, so that job should go to a Brit.
I think there is an exception for care workers but this sector has, for too long, underpaid and overworked their staff. This must stop and decent wages should be paid for a job well done. No surprise that most care homes are owned and/or run (extremely profitably) by Asians who have a totally different attitude towards menial jobs.
I am thinking to start a sunglass business in UK, future is beginning to look extremely bright
Sky Biased Halwit.
Whataboutism at its finest!
Remember when wages go up in this sector bakers, cleaners, farm workers higher the prices will go
Since leaving the EU we have no obligation to take asylum seekers from that area.
On one hand they say we will be replaced by machines in the years to come and lose jobs, on the other we will need more care workers and there are not enough, soooo...
Robots replacing people at checkouts is likely, robots replacing care workers is unlikely due to the job involving human-human interaction, the ability to hold a conversation etc
They also say that care workers are the least likely jobs to be replaced by machines.
There aren't enough care workers because so many people from 2nd and 3rd world countries came over here to do the unskilled jobs which drove down the wages way below minimum wage..
Companies need to bring the wages up to minimum wage and then it'll be worth the while for many British people to take the job up instead of claiming unemployment.
evilution minimum wage is the legal minimum a company can pay their workers. Any company paying less than this is operating illegally!
@@dicerevo of course but immigrants aren't going to say anything or they'll just get sacked. Also, many immigrants lie about their age so will be paid less anyway.
Companies can even claim that employees are apprentices which can reduce the minimum wage to £3.90 an hour.
Employers of jobs that accrue monetary tips like waitresses can claim that their average expected tips make their wages up to the minimum.
There are loads of loopholes and companies that employ cheap labour from outside the UK tend to use these tricks to pay less.
Well said Nigel, at least we are going in the right direction, the direction that i voted for
Exactly about time
Sure, the bigots are happy that Europeans are going to be treated exactly in the same crap, discretionary, racist way as the non EU citizens are treated to get a Visa to the uk.
Just don't forget we are going to apply the same principles to British immigrants here in Europe.
@@guleiro yes that is exactly what is going to happen. But it's the right thing to do either way . And British people get treated worse by the way even in Britian
As a legal Secretary in 1998 I only earned £9,950 p.a. and that was for a 48.5 hour week. I survived but was never paid properly.
The second thing Farage said was he questions the criteria but it's a step in the right direction. Yet the presenter asks him questions about how unfair the criteria can be for the Belgian and Italian
Absolutely spot on once again from Farage, this guy knows everything. Quality of life took a huge hit for media to talk about the 0.1% drop in GDP. What nobody seems to get is why we voted for brexit in the first place it was immigration from the EU! and specifically Eastern Europe, anyone who denies that is either in denial, clueless or just simply a liar. Since brexit we were hit with masses of Romanians and now there’s another year transition where we’ll have even more immigration. It was already a problem so I don’t know why people are celebrating the new immigration laws, we need to deal with the numbers here already!
The UK might continue to go down the drain but at least it's from its own choices. No policy, laws or process will ever be perfect for everyone but Brexit is about the UK making its own mistakes and dealing with them as they arise now rather than dealing with EU mistakes and not being able to change a damn thing.
What is best for the village is not always the best for the family!
SupermanKelly™ agree 100%. I even understand Brexit but As a foreigner what I don't get is why the British people seems to be at war with all the Europeans now.

They are scare stories. We need to train our own people to the standards required and pay them accordingly. It really could not be simpler.
How much should factory owners pay their unskilled labour per hour?
I can't wait to see how the right-wing little Englanders try and reconcile their hatred of foreigners with their love for free-market economics.
