  • When you overland Morocco you've got to fully immerse yourself in every aspect of the fascinating country.
    Getting away from it all is a huge part of the adventure so we drive south and find an incredible park-up in the wilderness, only to get the knock literally in the middle of nowhere!
    And did I mention the bridge? 😬
    Contrary to popular belief, you don't need 4WD or a monstrous overland truck to explore this fascinating country. It’s safe and accessible whether you're in a car, campervan, motorhome, or motorcycle, and will give you an unforgettable experience... what are you waiting for?

    Guys, long time Baja Californian here. Where else would a couple of Gringos be down there? NEVER EVER NEVER OPEN THE DOORS TO ANYONE”! (They try it on) Ive been mugged by “Federales “ in Mexico. You have probably heard the analogies between Morocco and Mexico…. Safe travel guys and god bless.

      Hi thank you and yep, you just never know.
      In fairness I never open the door immediately, I open the bedroom blind with lights off (as it's high) and check out who's there, in this instance there were two police cars with blue lights flashing.
      But I definitely get your point and will definitely bear it in mind when we visit the Americas.
      Cheers, 🙏😀

    Although we have never visited northern Africa, we have lived in South Africa and more recently revisited both SA and Malawi and absolutely loved it. As you said, Africa is completely different from Europe and is so incredibly diverse. I am more and more tempted by Morocco and to think we could drive there is a fabulous prospect. I would like to think that with a set of all terrain tyres our van would be up for the job.
    I can see that you, like us, have been bitten by the Africa 'bug' which makes you always want to go back.
    Although we have many memories of southern Africa, one that sticks in my mind is big skies - something that just cannot be experienced in the UK. Would you agree?

      Hi Peter,
      Interesting, would love to hear about your time in SA & Malawi over a beer sometime.
      I'm really keen to do Namibia, SA, Botswana & Zimbabwe but Izzy's taking some convincing.
      You really don't need offroad tyres here, there are thousands of vans & motorhomes with no mods or offroad ability. I'll include something in a coming video to hopefully show how accessible Morocco is to tour by van.
      Yeah, we would agree... there's so many elements of life in Northern Africa that are either different to explain to people or simply can't be replicated in Europe. 🙏😀

      @@TheGapDecaders That sounds like the start of a plan. We just need our paths to cross at some point!
      If you are thinking of those countries then you could easily add Malawi as well. It is known as 'the warm heart of Africa' as it boasts the friendliest people in the whole continent. Our eldest daughter lived in Blantyre for 3 years and we had the pleasure of visiting her and touring round for a holiday. I thoroughly recommend including on an itinerary. Plenty to share about there and our experiences of living in and holidaying in South Africa.

    Another excellent vlog. Thanks for sharing. Have you met many people who have taken their dogs over to Morocco? We will be travelling with 2 & wondered if this would cause us an issue. Do you know if dogs have to be kept in vehicles for the ferry crossing? 😃

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  Рік тому

      Hi Andrea, we've met lots of Brit's and Europeans with dogs in Morocco, of course you need a pet passport.
      I don't believe dogs are allowed on deck, I know that certain ship operators state they have to remain in the vehicle.
      Maybe worth checking the ferry company to understand their policy.
      Sorry we can't be of more help. 🙏😀

      This year, we were there early Feb until April - You could stop until early May but beyond that, it's getting uncomfortably hot.

    An incredible amount of horses in Central America, too, even if unfortunately not all in good shape 😢
    Quick question:
    Is there a small air conditioning unit that would work on a rig like yours, or even smaller, that could be run on solar panels?
    Thanks!
    Chat soon.

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  Рік тому +2

      Thanks guys, this is such a great time of year to bike Morocco, Summer here is mid to late 40's everyday with most campsites closed.
      Our A/C unit is one of the smallest, anything smaller would be ineffective, it is possible to run one off batteries powered by solar.
      A/C - A very rough guide;
      Thery're power hunger so (ball park) you'd need about 1200W of solar & 800ah of lithium batteries minimum, there’s a few variables like daylight hours, sunshine, time of year (angle of sun), duration run eg.
      That’s about 10m square of solar so quite a lot.
      Take care guys

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes but don’t leave Spain on the 90th day as that counts as a day in both countries, meaning when you came back after your 90 days in Morocco you’d be a day too early.

    On a side note, a friend of ours was wild camping in the absolute middle of nowhere with a motorbike in Northern Mexico, and somehow someone saw him and paid him a visit right in the middle of the night.
    Not a friendly visit, I'm afraid, but they let him go after a while, minus most of his equipment 😢
    Pretty soon, we started to notice that the locals have spotters practically everywhere (sometimes for the police, sometimes for the bad guys) and know where everyone goes.....
    Possibly is the same in Morocco 🇲🇦

      @TheGapDecaders  Рік тому

      @Vancouver.BC.1 Рік тому +1

      99.99% there's no problem. But the police prefer to take the safest bet. Indeed, in case something wrong happens, and goes in the media, it could hurt the image of the country. Morocco and Mexico do rhyme, but they are radically different in nature. Cheers,

    A while ago, there were 2 german woman were killed in the Atlas mountains. This was a big story in germany, and together with the pandemic the tourism dropped a lot. Campgrounds closed etc.Tourism the biggest revenue for morokko, and now, every local head of police is personally responsible for the safety of the tourists. Therefore they send you away very often to a official camp ground, even if you are completely alone. On the other hand, they make more money with us on camp grounds, which is fair I guess

      first 2 Scandinavian girls not Germans, were killed 2 years ago. nobody forget it, only this years 20 mass shouting killed over 500 peoples and more than 1000 injured in USA without taking about daily killing only in Chicago more than 5 people randomly get killed everyday in the street. , the same in Germany many were killed this year and all over the world. and everybody forget it no one each time went to Germany or America said well talk about some mass shouting happen some day, except for Morocco , anybody talk about 2 girls were killed 2 years ago. a chance to get killed in Morocco is negligible compared to USA or any western Country.
