Lol my hands are all over the place. I usually find myself putting my right hand in my left like a catchers mitt about mid chest to mid stomach. It's hard not to talk with my hands, but people, not men and women don't look away. I also tend to touch people's arms or shoulders when I talk. It keeps people engaged, but I read the person. I've diffused situations, but also got into a fight or two because of it. What does that mean or what do you think about that?

    “Assume that everybody likes you.”
Honestly in my 44 years I’ve never thought to do that and generally assume the opposite. Gonna keep this in mind from now on. Thanks!

I first saw the leg crossover in The Godfather. When I saw Micheal Corleon do the leg-over-leg crossing in that chair talking about his plan for killing Solozzo and the Police Captain, he looked so quietly menacing and deadly....mimicking the lethality of his father dispensing "justice" earlier in the movie. Later, Micheal OFTEN crosses his legs this way and he looks SO relaxed and confident in his utmost power of life and death. For me...crossing legs like this? Done.

My third grade homeroom teacher taught us this and other etiquette and table manners in 1976. I was very surprised when I got into the real world in 1985 after high school and saw how ill-mannered most people are eating like animals at a trough.

This is so helpful, many of these such as the walking with your hands in your pockets or not spreading a little while we sit to be more comfortable ,etc. are so subtle that it's really hard to know by ourselves. So it's very inciteful to have someone point it out for us and then we can easily introspect and change.

In my opinion, the only way to truly be a good man and a gentleman is to treat everyone with respect regardless of whether you like them. That is the baseline, most actions can be evaluated on this principle alone.

Looking at the picture of the man sitting in the leg over leg position I don't see a man trying to protect himself. I see someone in control and comfortable in the situation. Now if he was hunched over, had his arms folded, or hands held together on his lap, I might say he looks like he's protecting himself. When you look at how someone is sitting, I believe you have to look at the whole picture. Take the guy with his legs spread. On one hand his legs can be spread open, he can be sitting up, relaxed, and open to others. On the other hand his legs can still be spread open, he can be sitting hunched over, staring at the floor, and unopen to others.

I try not to overthink my presentation in social settings, especially for business. My apparel becomes my armor. I work on my walk, do posture exercises every day, and have an appropriate eye blink rate. I'm a card-carrying member of the Leg Crossers Club (you know, for comfort). As for hand placement, I'm a proponent of the Merkel-Raute gesture. It's most natural for me.
It all comes together to give others the best version of me.

10:20 how to walk properly: I remember how South Africa rugby players walked through the tunnel to the field in the last world cup final against New Zealand's All Blacks. Fitted, focussed,... not nervous, not afraid, but with the mind in the match. Just walk like a rugby player walking to play a final 👍

The walking is complicated. I did the long stride thing for a while until a girl at work told me she was intimidated by me because I walk like Michelle Myers from the Halloween movies. Also looking like you're in a hurry can make you look LESS confident because it looks like your late for something

Lot of effort put in again, thank you and apologies for a comment I made recently quoting a rude statement of Elon Musk - not that I disagree with it but I went a little bit tough and I regret it: I could have made the same point without going that far.
This begs a question of style also:
I believe that words shall always be at level / on par with the situations…
=> Do you agree? What do you think? How to deal in words with an extremely repulsing/abject situation? How do men of style do it?
I am really interested please in your viewpoint built on elegance wrt this matter, and I believe this can help others too in our times of growing tensions, where such situations will increase in frequency.
Thank you again and be well.

Both feet flat on the ground about a foot apart when sitting is the only way. Anything else is defensive or closed off or being stressed. It’s the equivalent of standing with arms straight down (the only correct position for the arms when standing). Both are incredibly difficult mentally to do, it feels totally wrong and uncomfortable, which is why only real men can pull it off.

I could never do the leg over leg sitting style. Crushes my nuts. I have the cross leg ankle on the knee sitting style or crossed ankles in a group. When alone, my feet are constantly moving as I usually have music going on while completing tasks. As far as smiling...I have been told I am the only manager at work that smiles all the time and that I am more approachable since they see me as a happy person. Mainly the smile is because I actually love my job. The women at work tell me I have confidence when I walk and always smell good. I always take compliments from women at work as professional since I am not there to flirt but to do a job.
