When Haley really gets into the character of a song it can be a bit overwhelming with the intensity of the emotion and presentation. This is a great song by her. I love it when she collaborates with PMJ. It is a match made in heaven.
Haley's stage presence is in full force in "& Nation Army" w/ PMJ. Not only a masterclass in vocal, but one in holding the stage. Haley is a complete package.
Like most people, this performance brought you to tears and made you want to watch it again. That still happens to me every time...and I've probably seen it 100 times.
I only watch reactions from people seeing it for the first time. It's an addiction. The disbelief at what they just saw is so universal it becomes nothing more than a compelling curiosity to see how many different ways humans can express this disbelief.
@@theroadshowguy Yes, the only pronounced differences come from people who experience the Haley/PMJ version before the original. They can't recognize how different this reinvention is from the original, and they are distracted trying to digest the lyrics and impress viewers (who have probably seen the performance dozens of times.) with their special insight.
As far as the visual aspect of the performance, I don't think I've ever seen a singer simply stand at the microphone and make such perfect use of her hands. At no time did they just move around in an unconscious random manner. When she wasn't wanting to do anything with them they were simply at her sides, and when she did want to express something with them it was beautiful.
Back in "the day" there was a show called The Ed Sullivan Show and quite often, there was just the singer and the microphone on a stand, and sometimes a stool.
Great reaction! When you said “this is not a singer this is an artist” you hit the nail on the head! The fact that Haley also uses her voice in so many unique ways; I mean come on! I’ve never found a singer who I can listen to all day and each performance still sounds fresh. Absolutely captivating.
I think Haley is the most talented singer working today. This performance is a master class in vocal effects...rasp, growl, cries, wales, yodels, twang, belts...turns them all on and off at her whim. And sassy as all getup. She's like Jessica Rabbit meets Betty Boop. I've seen about 100 reactions to this video and it brings tears to my eyes too, every time. Not emotional at all, it's just so damn good. An absolute one in a million. I highly suggest you do her cover of Tove Lo's "Habits". It's amazing. Especially from a stage presence stand point.
PMJ would have made way more money if they sold Haley's Creep as a single instead of including it in one of their albums. It's so obvious. I would buy it as a single. Her high school jazz orchestra version of Creep is different - it's good but the sax solo dominates it too much.
I met Haley a number of years ago and actually hung out with her and Casey Abrams for a bit of an afternoon. She's super chill, quick to smile, has great style and completely blows you away when she takes the stage
That was a real MASTERPIECE! I just can't say enough about Haley...the woman is an absolute TREASURE. I'll be forever grateful that I got to experience such a ONE as her. Oh Haley, you exquisitely beautiful, talented, wonderful CREATURE!!!
You have tears in your eyes because you're in the presence of beauty. You're seeing the very best that humanity is capable of. Great reaction to a meta-talent, Janet!
GREAT REACTION! This may be my favorite female vocal performance ever. Here's something to blow your mind a little bit more: if you read the description under the original video, they state, "....Oh yeah- and this was the very first take." :)
I saw that face at the key change and resolution! Probably my favorite part of this whole piece! That blatant off key change, resolving into the new key...Fantastic! I saw that face you made and the smirk as you realized. Love it!
Haley is one special artist ,she has a huge vocal toolbox, weather she is sing with PMJ or with her own band doing R & B or jazz ,it's always something special
Женщина, которая восхищается другой женщиной, это уже нонсенс. Но ты это делаешь!!! Браво! Искреннее уважение и восхищение. Ты великолепна. Ещё раз Браво.
Great reaction! I can listen to this endlessly. You are one of the few to comment on her hands and her character shifts. I've said it many times. This is one of the most memorable solo vocal performances I have ever heard. Ever. You really captured far more then 'just' the notes... you captured the emotion and the depth of character. I was VERY impressed!!
the song, not emotional, but her performance, EMOTIONAL- I have watched it hundreds of times and cry each time. I think it is the greatest vocal performance ever, well, at least my favorite. and it hits me. the moment is special, the vibration is perfect-
She can blow, her chops are awesome. She can take it outside whenever she wants to. That arrangement, sweet and sensitive when they want it to be, and greasy as hell at the flip of a switch.
Great reaction! I feel the same as you EVERY time I listen to this performance. In fact I feel the same way just about every time I hear her sing, period!!😊
fantastic cover. i wonder that i havn't found a reaction to the extremely talented eivor. so much to discover in her voice and music, no one carries centuries and ages in their voice like her. for example falling free live at the old theater in torshavn. absolute magnificent!
Haley is perfection and I love your reaction to her stage presence, when most reactions focus on her (admittedly stunning) voice. You should totally check out Ghost love score by Nightwish with Floor Jansen (live at Wacken). A goddess as well ❤️
I have two for you to react to. First is Morgan James and Post Modern Jukebox covering Arowsmith's Dream On. One of the best covers I've ever seen. Second is The Waning, Live at Lunario, CDMX. Paulina, the drummed sings lead on Dust to Dust. She is 16 at the time this was recorded and she absolutely owns that stage on a level most seasoned pros never acheive.
You just reminded me why I LOVE reaction videos! I have never really cried watching this song, don't get me wrong it's one of my all time favorite performances, but seeing it through your eyes, someone that professionally deals with stage performance, and the ability to convey a message through song, just made everything about it that much better. I noticed things I was never aware of with Haley's performance, and I teared up with you at the end. You can't fake the emotion and joy you had reacting to this, stellar reaction, bravo!!
I find it funny how Haley singing about someone else being special is one of her signature appearances because in this big, weird, creepy universe of mainstream music SHE is the one who is special. Beautiful reaction to a beautiful event!
She's always a joy to watch, Robyn Adele Anderson also has a very strong stage presence by the way, really living the songs and was a founding member of Post Modern Jukebox. She put the channel on the map with their first viral videos. I can highly recommend watching her sing Gangsta's paradise, she really becomes a whole character there like she's a femme fatale in a gangster movie. Gunhild Carling is another one to watch, she's like a natural born entertainer who belongs on the stage. she's tap dancing, singing and playing countless instruments all with a smile. She performed with PMJ several times too. Goglia sisters are also a great pair who performed 'The boy is mine' with PMJ, they are so much fun to watch argue with each other in a way only sisters could.
If you want to see Haley in full stage presence mode then I suggest two other collabs with PMJ. They are Don't Speak and Seven Nation Army. The brings full sass and sultriness with both of them.
Hello there great reaction if I can say this I like u better when u smile than when u really feel the song and cry cause when u cry we cry and all 130 k want to do is give u a hug so pick your emotion and go with it. HAGD TC Be Safe Be Good peace out.
Haley's done a few things with PMJ. You might also be interested in their covers of "Don't Speak" ua-cam.com/video/Txi7QuO99kM/v-deo.html (my personal favorite) and "7 Nation Army" ua-cam.com/video/sB6HY8r983c/v-deo.html.
Puddles the singing clown ( "Puddles Pity Party" ) did a duet with her covering "Mad World" ( Tears For Fears ) in a vintage song style. Puddles first really caught a lot of attention when he solo covered "Royals" ( Lorde song ) with Post Modern Jukebox ( backing band ). He'd be a good one to react to.
You need to check out her cover of Black Hole Sun also. I can't decide which one I love more Black Hole Sun or Creep. Also I love your reactions your facial expressions always make me smile 😊
I love this video. It shows just how good she is at her job/love. (singing) I always say it when I see this. She is Jessica Rabbit, reincarnated. Her and PMJ have teamed up together on a few more song and she does just as good as she did here. (IMO) I've been waiting for you to see this. Thank you.
Haley is one of the best vocalists in the world .all of her music will have a effect on you. Angelina Jordan has dropped a brand new song ( an original ) check it out
If you're looking for performance talent, highly recommend Paul Janeway of the critically acclaimed American soul band St. Paul and the Broken Bones. I heard that in his youth he was groomed for a career as a Pentacostal Preacher, and he definitely brings that level of energy to the stage. "I'm Torn Up" (Austin City Limits performance).
Your title the confident singer I think fits a relative new singer Amira Willghagen singing on her country’s talent show Hollands got talent. Look for English subtitles. First song O babino caro. I have never seen such confidence from a self taught girl of only nine years old. She try’s for the wow factor and gets it every time. Big present on UA-cam where she learned to sing classical.
Not really. Haley is more famous that PMJ and transcends PMJ. In fact, she was the one who put PMJ on the map. Moreover, Haley hasn't performed with PMJ for years already.
@@bullfrog5037 Not trying to detract from Haley here. The point is that PMJ-philes heavily frequent reactions to any and all PMJ videos). Haley's channel has 324K subscribers. PMJ's has 5940 K subscribers. Given that it costs nothing more than the time to type in a couple of tags, and to put pmj in the heading (it is, after all, Haley and PMJ, or PMJ and Haley), it's a very low amount of effort for a potentially substantial increase in views (and potential new subscribers for The Confident Singer).
@@agwyvern My point was simply that Haley made PMJ and not the other way around. As PMJ was minuscule until Haley arrived on the scene and put them on the map.
Please, oh please, have a look at Alice Fredenham singing "My funny valentine" on Britain's got talent 2013! The whole appearance from when she walks on stage all shy, opens up while singing and what happens after the performance is just... Mesmerizing. Pretty please?
Creep is one of those songs I get really defensive about because radiohead just did it so damn good that it's near impossible to follow in their footsteps and match them let alone improve on it. Haley Reinhart's PMJ version is on of the covers I let pass here because damn the absolute goosebumps this gave me... It's not the same as the original but it definitely does the trick in moving me both physically and emotionally.
@@reznovvazileski3193 If I do a cover? I'm not Haley Reinhart - each of her "covers" are better than the originals. Time to enter Haley's musical universe. Once inside there's no escape - it's a black hole singularity.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 She's really good and one of the very few covers of creep that doesn't annoy the crap out of me but there's much to be pointed out that I like better about the original version as well. As far as entering a universe of your own goes one first has to write the song oneself if one wants to be in a seperate universe. I bet your ass Haley would be honored to even be mentioned positively in comparison to radiohead and it truly is a remarkable feat. No need to overdo it to the point of arrogance because she herself isn't like that at all either.
@@reznovvazileski3193 I totally agree with you about needing to write the song oneself if one wants which is why Radiohead had to include the original song writers in their song credits. The "author" of a song is overrated - really good music has a source as the Muse - hence the etymology of the word. I actually discovered Haley from my playlist of all the different versions of Creep on youtube - so I'm well familiar with the various renditions - along with the original song that is not by Radiohead. hahaha.
Nice reaction, it's why I'm addicted to seeing this songstress live. I tell anyone who will listen, in a time of pervasive auto tune & lip syncing, you should never miss the opportunity to see Haley sing live, no video/audio can do that voice justice. Regarding Haley's 'performance' on stage: Fun Fact: The anniversary of Haley's time on Idol in 2011 is coming up where as a mentor, Lady Gaga, advised Haley she had to bring the drama. Gaga said about Haley, "She's so good at singing, that I think, the challenge for her is the drama, and putting her mind and her heart into it." Gaga then advised Haley to take a breath (pause) right before singing a line in the song "I Who Have Nothing". Gaga told Haley "Give them drama, give them a little Edith Piaf, give them a little ‘I’m crazy and I’m a laugh away from a tear" relevance: The other contestants used to make fun of Haley as she had one move, waving her hand over her head. Fast forward to Haley's 'iconic' Creep performance, and you can see how that moment, that bit of simple yet sage advice, informed and impacted Haley's career as a live performer 12 years later. Here's a clip of that moment, it shows Gaga giving Haley advice, and the performance of "I Who Have Nothing" that followed: ua-cam.com/video/5G1bjX6Z57Y/v-deo.html For a very recent example of how Haley has matured as a stage performer, Haley's performance of a Nina Simone cover "Felling Good" mashed up w/ a fan favorite from Haley's debut album: ua-cam.com/video/ldwcFLMOqeg/v-deo.html Haley had recently been giving me access to video some of her tour shows, but one of my videos did make it to Haley's channel, she put her sound board mix on my video from last year's tour, Haley's cover of "I Put a Spell On You".... fantastic and an incredible live experience: ua-cam.com/video/LCWwOtdf728/v-deo.html I say again, if she comes near you, you should really go hear her live, Peace✌🏻
This is one of the finest performances by Haley Reinhart, with boatloads of barely contained emotions. If stage presence is your thing, I would recommend Laura Fabian with "Je Suis Malade". The subject and her performance of it will really rip your heart out of its cage. As it is a French song, I include a link to a version with both the original lyrics as well as the English translation embedded into the video. Even when not knowing French - which I fortunately do to a measure - you'll probably still will be gripped by the raw emotion laid bare on stage. Understanding the lyrics - even if aided by subtitles - will however hit you like a sledgehammer. ua-cam.com/video/dVvlmpo5g9k/v-deo.htmlsi=vUgJ0c63cpLWV-2r
This is PMJ's second cover of Creep. They did one before this with a different vocalist. In the following video Scott Bradlee talks about PMJ's creation of this version and how and why Haley did this video in ONE take. ua-cam.com/video/MskKSH1Kf4U/v-deo.html
I realize you probably are not super fond of extreme metal, and I understand that screams and growls can be somewhat tonally "non-diverse" I would like you to react to the live version of "Septic flesh -Dogma of Prometheus" because the singer is also the bass player but is able to convey a level of stage presence and emotion that is rarely ever seen, AND he's chained to a bass and a mic stand so he can't run around and flip around like some of the vocalists who aren't also playing an instrument. Very engaged. Much crowd participation. MUCH emotion.
Hailey Rainheart is absolutely amazing, beautifully sexy, and has a voice of an ANGEL, and Janet your awesome too what a beautiful smile and love your accent and facial expressions i sure wish i could meet you. Brian

Big present on UA-cam where she learned to sing classical.
perfect
Hard to believe American Idol ditched her!
You may want to add Postmodern Jukebox / PMJ to the title/description to draw more views on this reaction. :-)
Chills....
Holy shit…👏👏👏
You would enjoy the PMJ cover of All About That Bass.
🛑❗NUTS for their Upbeat 1940s jazzy "Whoops ! I Said It Again !" Sublime.. you'll love it..
Please, oh please, have a look at Alice Fredenham singing "My funny valentine" on Britain's got talent 2013! The whole appearance from when she walks on stage all shy, opens up while singing and what happens after the performance is just... Mesmerizing. Pretty please?
the hand work help her singing > it is about voice control and breathing technic
Fucking AMAZING.
Not a patch on Radiohead/Thom Yorke
This is better than the original, in my opinion
Creep is one of those songs I get really defensive about because radiohead just did it so damn good that it's near impossible to follow in their footsteps and match them let alone improve on it. Haley Reinhart's PMJ version is on of the covers I let pass here because damn the absolute goosebumps this gave me... It's not the same as the original but it definitely does the trick in moving me both physically and emotionally.
There's no need to mention any other musicians when listening to Haley. She exists in her own musical universe.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 If you do a cover of a radiohead song people are going to mention radiohead get over it
@@reznovvazileski3193 If I do a cover?
I actually discovered Haley from my playlist of all the different versions of Creep on youtube - so I'm well familiar with the various renditions - along with the original song that is not by Radiohead. hahaha.
lovely =)
Nice reaction, it's why I'm addicted to seeing this songstress live. I tell anyone who will listen, in a time of pervasive auto tune & lip syncing, you should never miss the opportunity to see Haley sing live, no video/audio can do that voice justice.
Regarding Haley's 'performance' on stage:
Fun Fact: The anniversary of Haley's time on Idol in 2011 is coming up where as a mentor, Lady Gaga, advised Haley she had to bring the drama. Gaga said about Haley, "She's so good at singing, that I think, the challenge for her is the drama, and putting her mind and her heart into it."
Gaga then advised Haley to take a breath (pause) right before singing a line in the song "I Who Have Nothing". Gaga told Haley "Give them drama, give them a little Edith Piaf, give them a little ‘I’m crazy and I’m a laugh away from a tear"
relevance: The other contestants used to make fun of Haley as she had one move, waving her hand over her head. Fast forward to Haley's 'iconic' Creep performance, and you can see how that moment, that bit of simple yet sage advice, informed and impacted Haley's career as a live performer 12 years later.
Here's a clip of that moment, it shows Gaga giving Haley advice, and the performance of "I Who Have Nothing" that followed:

For a very recent example of how Haley has matured as a stage performer, Haley's performance of a Nina Simone cover "Felling Good" mashed up w/ a fan favorite from Haley's debut album:

Haley had recently been giving me access to video some of her tour shows, but one of my videos did make it to Haley's channel, she put her sound board mix on my video from last year's tour, Haley's cover of "I Put a Spell On You".... fantastic and an incredible live experience:

I say again, if she comes near you, you should really go hear her live, Peace✌🏻
If you don't know the original ( by Radiohead ) you could hear that to compare with how she used her artistry to change the song style.
Understanding the lyrics - even if aided by subtitles - will however hit you like a sledgehammer.

up the algo!
They did this in one take and Haley was not feeling well that day
Actually Haley recently clarified that she was just tired before the take - otherwise fine.
This is PMJ's second cover of Creep. They did one before this with a different vocalist. In the following video Scott Bradlee talks about PMJ's creation of this version and how and why Haley did this video in ONE take.

Brian
definitely not a singer, truly an artist, best
Janet, please remember to honor the artist with a link to the original.
