    Construction: Combination shelf and box frame
    Materials: 1/2" plywood base with varying thicknesses of extruded foam board subroadbed, over 1x and 2x lumber frame
    Track: Atlas Code 83 in Staging and helices, Micro Engineering Code 83 on the main lines, Micro Engineering and Walthers Code 70 everywhere else
    Minimum Main Line Radius: 24"
    Minimum turnout frog: #6

    If you’d like to donate to my channel to support the growth of the HO Scale Kansas & Western Railroad layout, click on the three dots below the right corner of the video then click on “Thanks”. All proceeds are directly applied to the layout’s construction or the acquisition of kits and rolling stock. If you would like, you can leave a message and even suggest how you would like your donation spent!

    Keep going with the buildings and the refinery. The Merchant row kit, you could cut it in half, on the depth, making it into a 'Low Relief' building. these are usually effective. Therefore extending the length and still have space for a roadway. keep on with the great work,cheers.

    Watch the video early Sunday evening. Keep up the great work. Layout is really taking shape. I would take one section of the layout, like the Tank Car Facility and would like to vote on you working on the buildings at that location. It's a neat little scene and the building would give it character. That's my for vote. Thanks.

    Is there an aspect or location of the Kansas & Western Model Railroad that you would like to see me focus my attention on for the next update video? If so, then leave your request in the comments below! Below is a list of locations and aspects of the layout to refresh your memory, listed in order following the main line from the bottom up, starting from the west helix:
    Royal Gorge Route
    Canon City
    Portland Cement Plant
    Pueblo
    La Junta Yard
    Lamar
    Holly
    Holcomb Power Plant
    Garden City
    Charleston Elevator
    Wichita Industrial Park
    Wichita Yard
    Towanda
    El Dorado Industrial Park
    El Dorado Refinery
    Union Tank Car Company
    Aspects of the layout that aren’t location specific that I can focus on:
    Track weathering and ballast
    Rolling stock weathering
    Structures
    Backdrops
    Scenery (the Royal Gorge Route…the main line between Canon City and the west helix…is the only location that is close to ready for scenery work. I will still have to lay the siding and install some backdrops, before I can start scenery work but that won’t take much time or effort)
    Layout skirting
    Fascia/valance
    The polls for this weekend will close at midnight Central U.S. time on Sunday, June 9th. Votes will be tabulated Monday and a short video update will be posted Monday afternoon regarding the vote result and my plan to carry it out. Power to the viewers!! I look forward to hearing from you!

    My vote is going to be a little bit different. Work on your switches that are giving you a problem operating first before you have so much clutter that it will make it hard to reach them. Then do some of your backdrops while still working on structures which should give you a better idea of how your scenes will look. This variety will prevent burnout. It is going well but I sense that the amount of buildings you want to do is maybe a little overwhelming at the moment.

    • @KandWRailroader
      @KandWRailroader  3 місяці тому

      Very good point about the "trouble" switches. I will file that vote under "track maintenance". I'll also put you down for backdrops. As for burnout, I appreciate your concern and certainly understand your point about being overwhelmed with all the structures I have to build. So far so good in the burnout department though. The bi-weekly polls really help in terms of both feeling overwhelmed and potential burnout because they give direction and focus, as well as smaller, short-term goals that seem attainable. I'm also careful never to "promise" anything for each construction permit which also helps me to keep from feeling pressured in any way. I'll be taking a family vacation in July which will force me to step away from the layout for a much deserved break. Until then, I'll keep plugging away! I'm still enjoying myself and having fun every day and I enjoy sharing my journey with anyone that is interested enough to follow along!

    Take a look at the reflection in the Walthers kit at 12:41, you might know that guy. Have you looked at the backdrops yet? I would say do backdrops but if you don’t have them, I would say continue structures. You’re doing a great job on the layout.

      Thank you for the compliment and the vote! Other than perusing websites and selecting candidate options for backdrops for certain areas of the layout, I have not done anything else. K&W is not short on industries 😊…Continue with what your doing (the structures)…I saw a couple houses but, do you have any small neighborhoods planned for the people to live that work at all those industries and businesses or are they part of the backdrop scenes?

    • @KandWRailroader
      @KandWRailroader  3 місяці тому +1

      Vote recorded! Thank you! Honestly, I've always been more interested in the railroad served structures because I can drive through a neighborhood or a town any time I want. I can't get up close to railroad industries to see the railroad/industry relationship up close. I hope that makes sense.

    The structures are really well done with no leaked glue visible, well done! I am quite curious about how you get good thumbnails, I always get an error message about file size and have to use the three random ones from YT Studio. Yours are always clearly related to the video.

    • @KandWRailroader
      @KandWRailroader  3 місяці тому

      Thank you for the complement! I consider myself an average model builder but definitely credit Tamiya's quick setting, extra thin glue. I only use traditional Testor's for large parts anymore since it usually takes some time to get larger parts secured properly for drying. The secret to thumbnails is cropping your photo until you get the file size below the 2MB limit.
