- Videos from my Operations Series feature less talk and more trains! Each new episode features improvements to the layout as its construction progresses, all while trains run operations, which is the whole purpose of the layout!
This episode features a local run from La Junta Yard to Holly, Colorado for the Coop there. On the return trip, the crew needs to bring back several cars that had been left in Holly's yard for temporary storage. Holly's small yard often makes switching difficult, especially since the locomotive needs to switch ends of the train for the return trip to La Junta. Since Holly only has a single passing track, switch crews need to plan out their moves in advance to be the most efficient to finish their job in a timely manner. At the end of the video we see the Coop trackmobile discover how many hoppers it can push at one time...the answer is surprising!
Nice switch work there Allen. Reminds me of the Santa Fe I brought back from the US in G Scale along with tons of track stashed neatly under the bed in the RV. Never did see the garden though. Sold it all and went back too OO.
Thank you! As much as I like the idea of a G scale layout, I like HO/OO for its "all-weather" aspects more. Plus, if I'm going with an outdoor layout, I want to be able to ride that sucker! LOL

That was a great switching ops. I guess actually switching an industry would be what I would like best to see how the track layout worked for that industry and if there were multiple moves necessary.
Thank you! That's an interesting request. I will have to put some thought into an op session like that. I'll actually have to learn how each industry would prototypically use their railcars which would be fascinating to learn, so thanks for that vote! Of course, without first, or even second-hand knowledge for the prototype ops my layout industries are based on, I may have to create my own procedure, but that will be fun too! Is there a particular industry on my layout you would like to witness first?
Forgot to add this when I posted the video...I'm enjoying doing the polls for my construction updates so I thought I would start doing polls for my Operations videos. What type of operations interest you most? What parts of the layout would you like to see featured as a part of operations? My operations videos don't get near the views that my construction updates do so I would like to see if I can improve that. Instead of posting the results in a special video like I do my construction videos, I will just do my next Ops video based on the results.
