    If you're thinking about buying a bike like this do your research and know what you're getting!

    My Honda PCX-160 has a parking lock on the left brake lever, but my Honda ADV-150 does not have a parking brake. Parking brakes are most useful for parking on slopes and hills. The ADV-150 and ADV-160 come with a plastic hex tool specific to your bike that opens access to the main battery, if it goes flat. I have bought 9 new Honda bikes and flat batteries within 2 years is common in Thailand, I suspect the dealers do not keep the bike batteries charged in the showroom. I have never had the key fob battery go flat.
    I find the headlights inadequate and so we avoid night riding. I used to ride Honda Cubs, Honda dreams and Honda Waves. I really miss the control that comes from foot pegs, especially when standing on rough roads and dirt tracks. I fitted metal grips to reduce the risk of my feet slipping. The ADV is for Adventure and proper foot pegs would improve its off road capacity. I also want big wheels for comfort and safety.
    What I really want is a 300cc Honda rebel with a CVT transmission, dual controlled full ABS brakes from either brake lever, (no foot brake) the best adjustable suspension and a super comfortable seat. Cars went auto well over 70 years ago. The problem is Honda executives drive cars, and don't understand compression of the spine and a sore bum. The Honda Forza has nearer the seat that the ADV-160 should have.
    Insure your bike and keep it light. I agree with your list, especially the commuter seat needs factory options. 👍👍👍

      That's interesting because mine has the parking brake. I use it a lot even in my own driveway cause there's a slight slope. Very handy. I also feel that the floor board does tend to keep your legs from stretching out like I'd like them to. I plan to affix a crash guard so I can add some foot pegs some day. Yes, the seat is obviously designed by a team of people who don't understand comfort, at all. When you sell bikes to the American markets people want comfort and that's what they expect. I know I do. After about 45 minutes of sitting on that park bench I am ready to get off and stretch my legs. I love the bike, but there's a few items I'd like to add mainly to experience more comfort. Of course, all that costs more money and I have other priorities for that sort of thing so I deal with it. It's one of the reasons I don't enjoy riding long distances. People talk about those Canon Ball events. No thanks! My backside couldn't handle the torture. I think Corbin needs to find my account and sponsor a seat so I could install it and talk about it. ;)

    I rented a 150 Adv in January and loved it! I definitely noticed the same thing with the seat. However I bought a new Adv 160 after renting the 150. The 160 is definitely more comfortable but my butt still got sore just took longer. The 160 is a great bike.

    It’s not the cost of battery. But the inconvenience of where your scooter dies. Not being able to go home cause a key fob battery is dead. 😯 A functional key is easy and very dependable.👍

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  Рік тому +3

      I've never understood the logic behind a fob. The world is pushing convenience over practicality. Cars that self park, brake, stay on the road, etc. If we continue to dumb-down society that's not the direction to go. Pretty soon people won't know how to do anything but stare into their phones and drool. Maybe that's by design.

    I am 6'2", and riding for about an hour, or a little longer, I have been very comfortable. I know I cannot influence the RPM's, but I would still like to have a tach just to see what the engine is doing. I was able to change the speedo on my Sportster for one with a tach, and I like it much better. I don't care what people think when they see me on a scooter, this thing is a lot of fun. They handle great as well, at least the ADV150 does. I also own a Stella (150cc two stroke, four speed manual), but with the 10" tires on it the handling is a lot twitchier than on the ADV150.

    Great Video! All valid points/ peevs!!! I have a 2023 and still LOVE IT despite the issues. The fob is not great and it still takes a minute to shut down!!
    One can use the rear pegs to stretch legs and ride like a sport bike and sometimes I use the floor boards for the feet and square-up on the seat and lift for bumps to not break the bank.
    I'm happy to hear you get a top speed in the 60's, I was told 50's, which is just 10 below what I really wanted for local roads, no highway. I have 50 miles, not 300, so I haven't topped out yet.

    The keyfob, can’t stand up when riding, factory windshield is worthless, fairings are extremely difficult to remove to wire up accessories, no built in USB port. I’d say the keyfob is the biggest negative because of the feeling of not knowing when it may fail to work. No problems with mine so far though. However it is very convenient not having to use a key.. So it’s a trade off.

    Test drove this exact bike that was at a dealer being sold as an unregistered demo with some low mileage. Normally the dealers do not allow test drives because they only got a few ADV150’s a year and the mark ups are insane with some selling OTD for close to $8k.
    I was surprised how slow the ADV150 was to 65 and that my Elite 110 felt almost as fast because it’s 60 lbs lighter so power to weight ratio is a factor. I also didn’t like the high seating position that makes you feel like your on top of the scooter. It’s a strange feeling and not confidence inspiring when taking turns.
    Needless to say I passed on purchasing it because the dealer wanted nearly what an ADV160 would go for and they posted pics on their website of a brand new ADV with no damage but the bike that was available was full of scratches and even rust at on the kickstand welds and a cracked trim piece so I passed and someone else got it that was less picky I guess.
    Also the dealer added a $1k mark up for absolutely nothing but pure profit because they didn’t assemble the scooter or have it transported. I’m glad I passed because the ADV160 does 75-77MPH and that’s the sweet spot for a midsize scooter. I know a lot of riders want the ADV350 but it’s much bigger, heavier and would be about $8-$10k with dealer mark ups. Unfortunately same deal with dealer’s getting one every few months while they have showrooms full of Metropolitans and Ruckuses. Clearly Honda is focusing on the Asian markets

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  Рік тому

      All good points and I have noticed that about the ADV 150, but also knew that before I purchased it and sometimes you have to sacrifice things which are less important. If I had it to do over after experiencing this bike for roughly two years, I'd honestly have to say I'm satisfied with my choice. I've learned a lot about bikes since then and even more about the ADV 150 and it's a great machine. I always stress to people to make their own informed decisions when choosing any bike. Honda does have a large presence in Asia, but also India. I didn't research the numbers for scooter sales, but motorbikes in general are more popular elsewhere for many reasons. Thanks for the comment. Good stuff.

    I bought the ADV 150 out of impulse before I watched any videos on it. It is uncomfortable after a 20-to-25-mile ride. I have to stand up at an intersection to get my butt to stop hurting. lol. I top it out at 55 MPH around open field area but managed to get to 63 with hills on both side of the road, it was willing to go more but I didn't. Also, for some reason feels like I am sore all over after riding and lost a couple lbs. Is anyone else losing weight on this thing? I'm 6'3" 214 lbs.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  Рік тому +1

      In other countries dual disk brakes are more common and rear drums wouldn't be as widely accepted. The majority of people who purchase them in America are using them for toys, not daily commuting and wouldn't even notice. Instead of forums search Facebook groups for the ADV 150 (USA) because there's tons of information and owners in those groups. Forums are a dying platform I've noticed.

      Hi Marcus. It would get my vote, absolutely. A 5-minute commute is the dream of any employee. That's awesome! 65mph is about it though so just be aware of that, especially if you're on a highway at any stretch. You won't have that extra power to accelerate, but it's also very rare you would need that. Hopefully more folks chime in on your question, but you know my vote at least.

      It's much to small for me. It's uncomfortable to the point of painful.
      The Corbin seat would help, but being in Thailand that's not a option. Honda does offer a crash bar that I ordered to mount a foot rest further forward and outward. It will be a foot rest made for a Harley Davidson.
      A lot of extra expense and time. Should have bought the ADV 350 that also comes with real suspension for much better ride and safety.

    We got a 160 in September. We love it, but I have a couple. .5 - MIrrors are useless; I can only see my arms! Really Honda? - I ordered some extenders. 1. There's no pass through for the USB cable from the cubby to connect your phone/GPS - will have to drill a hole. 2. I'd like some lockable helmet hooks - our full face helmets don't fit in the trunk 3. Rear suspension travel could be longer for 2-up riding. 4. Price and features - in other markets its a lot cheaper and you get rear disk brakes and 2 channel ABS, a tool kit and doc bag that goes under the seat. I get screwing us over on price as we can better afford it here, but giving us drum brakes in the back and those other missing bits too? seriously? 5. Doesn't have to be included, but they are missing opportunity to offer an official phone mount and rear box mount Who doesn't want a nicely integrated phone mount? I'll end up designing and 3d printing my own to mount above the dash display. 6. Seat is a little weak - I can see a long ride is gonna hurt the buttocks. Fine for shorter trips 7. Key fob thing is totally unnecessary but its ok. I'd have traded a normal key for a rear disc brake. 8. I'm getting old and wish the center pass through was a bit lower to mount easier. 9. At a stop, if you hold the front brake the engine runs rough, but not if you hold the rear - because of ABS? Not really a problem just a bit odd. All that said, I think this was the perfect machine for what we wanted - taking the wife out to explore little towns on back roads. PS, I'm 6' 2" and find the fit and room fine, including with my 5' 2" wife on the back, the windscreen is fine for me and the power is fine even 2-up, but we have the 160.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  11 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment! I agree with you. I also drilled a hole for the side compartment access, but some have run the cable up through the back and handlebars to prevent a hole. I didn't think to do that at the time. It's fine. I don't care what people think if they see a hole there. My bike does not idle funny with the front brake engaged so not sure what that's about. No one has ever mentioned it yet to me. Interesting. My helmet fits even being a full-face, but I can't have nothing else in the compartment and so I don't bother. I lock my helmet to the side rail when I walk away. I use a combination lanyard. I have not invested in a rear luggage carrier because I don't leave my bike parked anywhere much, only ride. I still think the Key Fob thing is silly and I would prefer a simple key design. The world seems to be pushing convenience over common sense. Drum brakes in America are usually fine because these bikes are not daily transportation, only toys for most so they don't put the expense into them as much as they do elsewhere. In other words, they cut costs and charge excessively for luxury toys in the US. They know Americans will buy them regardless. I bought a phone mount on Amazon for like $15 so that's not bad. The mirrors, yes, not designed for larger Americans. The smaller Asian bodies you can see fine around I would think. You can tell a larger American person did not design these things. That's my guess. Yes, the seat is a park bench. Again, not designed for us. Buy a Corbin like I plan some day and be comfy! With all said, I still like it and I don't regret buying it. IF I had it to do over I'd opt for something on the used market that was a little larger and more powerful and probably half the price, but it's fine. It's paid for now so no worries. Live and learn as they say. ;) So it sounds like the 160 isn't much different from the 150. The important thing is enjoyment and experiencing the outdoors. I'm glad you have found that. Cheers and have a great weekend!

    PCX 150 peeves: {2015 model}
    1/ Standard seat was painful after just 20 minutes.
    2/ Design of fuel door lock does not permit easy closing. Better if you push the button to help easy closing.
    3/ I am long body shorter legs. Sit too tall for standard handlebars. Had custom Stainless Steel ones made like mid sized ape hangers. That made it so lovely to ride now. Mirrors too are now wider apart and better height to just look behind without really taking eyes off the road ahead.
    4/ Just slightly annoying but glove box is only good for something like glasses or sunglasses. Anything too small & I cannot fit my hand in to retrieve it. Anything much bulkier just will not fit in partly due to accessory socket in there takes up a lot of space just in from door.
    5/ Foot positions available is slightly odd and feet always hang over the edges. On the flat the toes are lower than the heal. The other two positions is a bit more forwards with toes and ball of foot maybe bent up in the angle area or heal at the bottom of the angle and feet bent more or less too much upwards. You can live with it all for short rides but though it looks promising nothing with foot positioning is quite the right angles and I always feel like the feet are not securely on the platform. Looks a bit complicated to try to add extra wide support plus the other angles mentioned would be hard to correct while fixing the width problem.
    6/ A scooter cannot be bump started in the event of a faulty battery mid trip. {Centrifugal clutch prevents that.} I had to fit a kick starter just to feel comfortable in case that happened to me. Has not so far. But good to know it works when I need it to.
    7/ Suspension was not made for a heavy person. More for a 60 to 70 kilo Asian. {Or any other lighter person than me at about 110 kg.} For a bike made to be capable of carrying two people they are not good for one slightly heavy built person in the suspension. I do not really notice the front much for problems. More the rear has only 1 to 1&1/2 inches of travel left with me on and maybe a few kilos of shopping or items needed for a trip. Get some nasty jolts up the back bone when it bottoms out as it often does.
    8/ The rear {drum} brake is very weak. I have had it checked. Only about 10 to 15% efficient. Far short of what it could offer with my weight plus any load sitting directly over the rear wheel. When you think you are slowing down well using the left brake lever it is the front brake doing most of the work and the rear very little. They really should have been given a rear disk brake. They have them on the same bikes in other countries but just too slack to do that for everyone.
    9/ This next one I expect applies to all scooters. I was surprised at the actual short length of the drive belt life. I have discovered if you do not replace it early prior to a long trip you must carry a spare plus the tools to do that job on the road. They have no tolerance for exceeding recommended replacement intervals and due to the wear on the pulleys from the belt successive belts may fail earlier than the original belt.
    10/ They have no sacrificial wear item to warn you before you take paint off the lower side painted panels when cornering a little hard. Only happened once or twice before I learnt the limit to not exceed but would have been nice to have a warning before getting a few light scratches. Was on a roundabout and they lean the wrong way also for cornering. Not like I was hooking along too hard on curvy roads. I still have to add my own warning items for that. I have done it for my cruiser and love that early warning.
    No other real complaints. I am not knocking them. For many reasons I love them but to really fix at least the important issues does cost a lot of money. But this right now is not about the good things about them. Despite the "peeves" I have mentioned I do recommend owning one to anyone interested. Once you fix the "peeves" which might bother you they are amazing city bikes and with better suspension {I am still looking at air suspension for the rear} I am also very happy riding them on long trips. I made a tractor seat for it. Eventually for one or two reasons I took it off but I could sit on that seat for 24 hours if I wanted to. Never got a trace of sore butt. I may one day rectify those issues and put it back on or make a updated design of one better suited still. I have never before or since had such a comfortable seat on a bike in over 50 years riding.
    Oh...... You mentioned Back support. I resolved that problem also. Great back support on it now. So there it is. Nothing is perfect as made but it is a nice start to work with for a handy thinking person.

      Wow, nice description and that's very helpful for everyone, thank you! Regarding the seat... I just took an afternoon trip and I'm working on "Part 2" of that video series right now actually. By the time I was riding home after spending roughly three or four hours total on the stock seat I was ready to get off. It was actually getting painful to sit any longer. These things are not designed for touring so I'll more than likely upgrade the seat before anything else. The Corbin Saddles are the only thing I know of at the moment where people have experienced improvement. So you made your own seat?

      @@Trekopolis Yes I made or modified my own seat. What it has now is the 3rd seat I did for it. Tractor seat was the 2nd. Using just the original seat base I removed the original foam and vinyl. Used some 1.5 mm nylon sheet attached by lots of metal spring clips butted together to the original seat base making the nylon take the shape I wanted for the new foam. I used the two pack {3 lts in each container} of FlexFoam-iT V. It is yellow in colour. Take note I did another seat on a different bike a year or so later and used a smaller "sample" pack of what is claimed to be the same foam but in the sample packs it is white and was too hard. I told the suppliers that but the person/company selling it chose to argue. I have lots left over to prove my claim but just warning you; do not try the sample packs just because they are cheaper. The yellow stuff in the larger containers is good for seats. {one container is yellow while the container with the 2nd part of the 2 pack is blue.}
      The main features of the new foam I poured and shaped is wider at the rear of the riders butt area and slight depression from side to side across rather than higher over the middle. It tapers back in to the original plastic towards the bottom edge. Sort of gives a tractor like seat shape to sit on but only as tall as you want to make it. It may be up to an inch taller than original on the outer edges but the foam gives under you like a spring. Very nice for long rides. Other than that the new foam retains much of the look in shape of the original. It is about 1.5 to 2 inches wider each side and the shape down to the base and the one piece pour makes it very supportive rather than sagging at the sides. Seat still tapers in towards front for ease of putting feet to the road. The two pack foam is not cheap but if done well the end result is so worth it.
      I paid a upholsterer who left wide seam gaps for water to enter and I had to seal that. He was supposed to seal all the seams like he did on the 1st one but he cheaped out on me. But the eurathene I used looks ok to me; {Permatex blue similar to the blue vinyl I chose} seals the seams and has not lifted or peeled in about 4 years so far. Because I made 3 seats it wound up costing me a bit but I do not think I could have been happy with what another person made for me. The cost of only the one seat was not more than say a corbin seat but I had worked out the right foam to use and the best shape for me. The nylon sheet I used for the shape had smooth slippery to the touch on one side so it let go of the foam after setting easily.

      @@kassiedreaneai7459 I do appreciate the detailed information and I'm sure other folks do as well. I don't think I'd try tackling such a process, but maybe others will. Good stuff! Maybe you should consider making and selling your own creations. ;)

    I don't like that it doesn't have a flat floor. Trust me if you are going to use a scooter for shopping, a flat floor really helps with storage. And I just could not pay 5000.00 for a 150cc scooter.

      Yes, the ADV is a little pricey for what you get, but I don't regret my decision. It brings me a lot of joy. Like you, I'd like a Jeep Rubicon, but I'm not going to pay the high demand prices out there! I reached for the ADV, but it could have been worse. 🤣

      I have a 21 monkey and I love it but stock it's top speed is about 58 mph and I weigh 125. I bought a 160 last week so I would have something to ride to town. I just had knee surgery so I won't be able to ride it for a few months but I hope I didn't waste my money
