My grandfather would always cry when he heard this song play. He served in WW2 and his best friend sang it. They were both being shot at, my grandfather made it but his friend didn't. Beautiful song.
I remember listening 👂 to this song 🎶 because my Mom had this song on one of her albums. Five years later when I was in the Junior High Marching Band we would play this song when it was Concert Season. That was when football 🏈 season was over and we had to perform at contest time when bands were judged on how well they performed. The song 🎵 is originally called “Londonderryaire” but, referred as “Danny Boy.”😊 Andy Williams did a fantastic job with this song 🎶 and this particular version was on one of my Mom’s albums.😊

My grandmother passed away this month. She used to sing this song. It makes me so sad to hear it, but it makes me feel that she is here, with me. She was a magnificent person. Her grandfather was Edward Fitzgibbons from Carhue Croom in County Limerick, Ireland.
My grandpa died last September. He wished my cousins would learn this song they didn't before he died sadly. So last week we went on a six hour drive to my grandpas favorite lake where all the relatives would camp and have a great time. We all went there about 40 relatives from around America came to it and we camped for a few days. We put a shot of whiskey in his ashes then sunk it in his favorite fishing spot. (we tied together 5 boats). And after we did that my cousins sang this with a guitar and now every time I hear it I cry.
I'm usually not like this, but your comment made me cry. I didn't have the luck to see my grandfathers, they both died before I was born or before I could remember it.
Me too. My grandpa grew up in Ireland and he was a great man - proud to be an Irishman. This was his favourite song. He passed away 2 weeks ago. At his funeral, when his coffin was carried out of the church, a woman sang this song. I was so sad. This song is so beautiful and historic.

It's done live in a TV studio in front of a live studio audience and millions of folks watching on TV (back then, only three channels). Indeed his voice was so pure, so beautiful. And he sang those amazingly long notes with no punch-ins, no pitch correctors, no effects on his vocal... just his magnificently controlled vocal instrument, on perfect pitch, with such expression of loneliness... absolutely the best! Andy Williams is the best that I've ever heard sing Danny Boy. When I hear this song, I always end up with with tears streaming down my cheeks. When you watch this, you are seeing and hearing one of the greatest singers of all time, handling a timeless melody in a unique and truly beautiful way. Danny Boy is a wonderful song, sung many times by many singers. It's only right that there should be versions that set another standard - defining versions of true beauty, by singers whose talent can do proper justice to the greatness of the song. Andy Williams. What can you say. If they sing in Heaven, this is what it sounds like.
Wish Andy had repeated the verse to make the song longer. Just couldn't have enough of his remarkably beautiful voice and expression for this immortal, nostalgic song.
One of America's truly great crooners. This song was sung with such emotion and control. Another song never to be forgotten is "Moon River". I remember this man from my crib, and my mother singing "Moon River" to me.

i have many fond memories of Andy Williams. We listened to his music and watched his tv show in the 60`s. A great voice and true gem! I even wore an Andy Williams V-neck sweater. Andy is in his early 80`s now and still singing in Branson, MO. He still sounds great. Every time I hear one of his songs it reminds me of the good times in my childhood. You will always be remembered Andy!!
This was a song dear to my grandfather George. It played at his funeral. This song was what held memories of him with his father as a young boy and now its the one song I have to remember him by with all the special moments we shared through my younger years. Xoxo
Incredible. There are many beautiful versions of this beautiful song--but I think that Andy Williams's version is the most beautiful of all: it is both tender and powerful. And, yes, my name is "Danny"!
Oh my goodness! This man was amazing! He has such a beautiful voice it made me teary eyed! Whomever doesn't appreciate him has no real taste in music!!!
To one of the greatest singing voices that has ever been. Andy Williams you will be missed but your voice goes on to enrich the songs that touch so many peoples hearts. RIP

And both of them loved Andy Williams.. listening to this now I know why,,, Thanks to UA-cam I found this gem.. THankfully i got to see him in Phx, Az in 2006 at one of his Christmas Shows!!! LOVED IT!!! HE IS LEAVING MANY GREAT MEMORIES IN SONG!!! RIP ANDY WILLIAMS!!!!
Here we see someone who can hold a note perfectly, unlike todays singers who go up and down on a note because they know they can't hold it like this. This is art.
Yes. Also The Righteous Brothers' Bobby Hatfield singing "my wedding song" "Unchained Melody!" Just amazing! The version where he is wearing the "pink" jacket!
Andy Williams brought pleasure to so many. This is a wonderful example. I heard it sung first by Mario Lanza. I was in tears. Lanza had a quality that a new generation needs to experience like those of us who enjoyed Andy Williams. A new book pays homage to Lanza and most of all captures his essence: "A Kid from Philadelphia, Mario Lanza, the Voice of the Poets." Anyone who loves beautiful voices should read it. The book plus Lanza's recordings and You Tube clips show why he is a legend.
I come from a very musical family, who also like to have drink when together. My dad is one of 9 and all of them play and/or sing, so as you can imagine, this song is the bane of my life. I love Andy William's voice but the frailty of the Johnny Cash version moves me to tears every time. If you haven't heard it, I urge you to check it out!
Thanks, I did not know that he was still alive. Since he does not perform anymore I just assumed he was gone. My adoped mom worked with a lot of the entertainers from the 40-50 and 60's. Some of those I truly miss-Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Jean Sablon, Matt Monroe, Frank Sanatra, Gene Kelly for a few and then of course the Cowboy Crooners, Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. I do wish we could hear them again performing.
When you hear this man's voice, no matter what song, it's as if Heaven has descended on earth, and there is no evil but only warmth on earth :) (Wow, glad I got that out of my chest :) :)
I can never listen to this song with out getting all teary. I've listened to it since I was a little girl and it's the only thing that gets me to sleep. it's comforting and makes think of my only friend in the whole entire world which happends to be my band teacher. Just so you know in a couple of years probably 4 to 6 years I will have a book published called "Peanut Head" about him and his name is Mr.K.
When I was a baby, my Dad used to sing this to me whenever I started crying, and it ALWAYS made me stop crying. No matter why I was rying I always settled down when my Dad sung this to me. This song still comforts me now, when I'm feeling down or upset I just listen to it and it helps a lot. Such a beautiful song!
My grandfather would always cry when he heard this song play. He served in WW2 and his best friend sang it. They were both being shot at, my grandfather made it but his friend didn't. Beautiful song.
my great-grandfather served in ww1, he was shot in the tongue- he didn't like to talk about it.

Andy Williams is the best that I've ever heard sing Danny Boy. When I hear this song, I always end up with with tears streaming down my cheeks. I think it's because I've been in the meadows when Summers return or when the valley's are hushed with snow. And those memories with friends and family are so strong, it just brings out the emotion.
Oh, Danny boy,
the pipes, the pipes are calling
from glen to glen
and down the mountainside.
The summer's gone
and all the roses are falling.
It's you, it's you
must go and I must bide.
But come ye back
when summer's in the meadow.
Or when the valley's hushed
and white with snow.
It's I'll be here
in sunshine or in shadow.
Oh, Danny boy, oh, Danny boy,
I love you so.

My grandfather, who was part Irish, absolutely loved this song. Always remember him when I hear it..RIP.
More like a gift
Andy Williams brought pleasure to so many. This is a wonderful example. I heard it sung first by Mario Lanza. I was in tears. Lanza had a quality that a new generation needs to experience like those of us who enjoyed Andy Williams. A new book pays homage to Lanza and most of all captures his essence: "A Kid from Philadelphia, Mario Lanza, the Voice of the Poets." Anyone who loves beautiful voices should read it. The book plus Lanza's recordings and You Tube clips show why he is a legend.
I've loved Andy since I was about 2 years old... I'm almost 49 now and I still love him so!!!
Miss you Andy. Thanks for all the music you left us. Now there is great singing in the heavens!
윌리암스 당신은 최고의가수입니다.하늘좋은곳에서 행복하시기를 기원합니다.😥👍✌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏
I come from a very musical family, who also like to have drink when together. My dad is one of 9 and all of them play and/or sing, so as you can imagine, this song is the bane of my life. I love Andy William's voice but the frailty of the Johnny Cash version moves me to tears every time. If you haven't heard it, I urge you to check it out!
My brother love this song so much..he passed away 3 years ago..may he rest in peace.
how his eyes twinkled when the song gently rolled out of his heart!!! love Danny Boy and Love Andy Williams!!! :) :)
Beautiful voice, and beautiful man! Years of wonderful music.
I do wish we could hear them again performing.
one of my residents love singing this song. my oh my, does he have a voice.
Een geweldig mooi lied van Andy Williams
Deze ballade vind ik het mooiste door Andy gezongen

1:38-1:44 makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. What a beautiful voice. RIP Andy.
I LOVE THIS MAN, HE HAS THE BEST VOICE I REGRET I NEVER GOT TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT
~I just have to hear this beautiful song on Saint Patrick's Day! Andy Williams has the most beautiful voice...
