Andy Williams did THE best version of this song I have ever heard. Give me Andy, any day and forget the women. It's just not, to me, a woman's song. It's a man's song and I could listen to Andy forever!
To me IF you can't appreciate this truly magnificent performance of Andy Williams at his absolute BEST you don't understand the complexities of singing this song or know very little about REAL music. Two hundred and nine people here who voted this down aren't very intelligent!
Christmas is not the same on useless television . We had Williams, Como, Crosby, Martin and a few more every year. Nothing , no body touches the classic days of television during Christmas.
This has quickly become my ALL TIME favorite Christmas song....and ONLY Andy Williams does it justice! Seriously, the man could sing a phone book & it would be beautiful. This song gives me chills & literally makes me fall on my knees in gratitude for Christ our Lord & Savior. That deep bass voiced back up singer is amazing too!
His Christmas specials were always much anticipated when I was growing up. The music was great and the sets were always beautiful. I remember watching him sing this, spell-bound by the beauty of his powerful and crystalline voice. Andy never "over sung" a song, he let the beauty of the music stand on its own. When he sang a hymn, it was done in a respectful and tender manner. Andy Williams was a gentlemen's gentleman - a class act all the way! RIP, Andy. Your beautiful voice lives on.
One particular time I heard this song was the Christmas of 1993 I was at a Christmas party and started crying, thinking I made a fool of myself. I was thinking of my dad who passed away March 1 93 and told them I was thinking of my dad and blessed them all!
I'm listening to Andy Williams' version on this video for the first time on December 27, 2023. It's possible that I might have seen/heard Andy sing this beloved Christmas hymn decades ago on his TV show on NBC. This version and that by Perry Como have become my favourites after many years. My Ma and I wept when we learned that Andy went "Home" to Heaven. However, we both knew without a doubt that Andy and his brothers are with Jesus and that they are singing for Jesus and My Ma (and countless others) in Glory. Many many thanks, Howard Andrew Williams. Rest in Eternal Peace, good sir. Likewise, for My Heavenly-resplendent Ma (Helen) and the rest of my loved ones. I'll be with Jesus and the rest of you -- soon enough. Anyone listening to this gorgeous rendition of "Oh Holy Night" -- May Christ's Love and Peace be your journey. -- W -- ✝🙏😇
Andy Williams was a great part of me and my husbands life. He worked away from home , and at weekends when he came home he would bring an LP of Andy Williams, and there would always be a special song just for me on it, We have a great collection , priceless they are too. Thankfully we got to see him in concerts when he came to England 4 times. Great memories and greatly missed.
The absolute best song to listen to at 1am Christmas day, just finished wrapping the kids gifts, a nice holiday nog, sit down with the wife in front of the fire. The best.......
Tears every time, especially with the video since it reminds me of being a kid in the 70’s and watching the Christmas specials on TV with Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, etc. Those days and that true, humble, respectable and respectful TALENT are long gone.
The best and my favorite Christmas song, Andy had the greatest Christmas shows when I was growing up in the sixties and seventies, the pure sound especially in O Holy Night, pitch perfect from the first note to last, now at 62 brings tears to me when I hear it with all those great memories of every Christmas and the special family people from them that are no longer here, including Andy too.
Just heard of his passing. So sad. Many of the "great" ones are no longer around. I grew up listening to Andy Williams. Loved watching his show. R.I.P. It was a pleasure watching you all those years.
Andy didn't need whistle notes and trills to make this sound majestic. He stated in an interview this was a difficult song to sing but he makes it sound effortless and uncontrived. He always included at least one solemn Christmas song in his annual tv Christmas special to remind us of the reason for the season. Class act.
My absolute favorite Christmas song and my favorite version performed by Andy Williams. It was an honor to watch him and the choirs perform this to close one of his Branson Christmas shows in the 90s. A true American legend.
My favorite version! I was born in 1989 and always remember this song being sung!! Beautiful and Merry Christmas! Jesus Christ was born and he lives today!
I feel sorry for people who can't appreciate the beauty of a voice like his. I posted this on Facebook last year and older people gave it a thumbs up but most younger people were saying stuff like, "OMG, YUCK, LAME". At first it made me kinda mad but then realized how shallow and musically empty they are and I felt pity.
I am sorry that you feel this way, and that the young people around you don't appreciate this sort of music. Especially, Andy Williams,Eartha Kitt, FrankSinatra, John Lennon and many others. However, my mother herself is young, but she grew up on old music and movies and I, myself have come to appreciate the beauty of this sort of music. Where they use their talents and REAL instruments and NO synthesizers. But I appreciate ALL music and I AM one of those young kids. And PLEASE know that NOT ALL of us say any of those comments. Just those that don't know the message of the songs.
I did say "MOST" younger people [that posted a reply]. I know there are younger people who appreciate real music but it's getting fewer and father in between. Actually I too grew up liking older music. Though I was born in the early Rock & Roll era [and I love rock music] but I still listened to big band swing, classical and pretty much all kinds of music growing up. But I've been in several bands in recent years with guys only a few years younger than me and they can't even appreciate the Beatles, much less someone like Andy Williams. Very frustrating for me.
I grew up in a home that had Andy Williams, Perry Como, Vaughn Monroe, Ray Coniff, and many other albums (yep, albums...that's how old I am, haha) that gave me a wonderful appreciation for music that I still carry with me. I used to play my Grandma's Andy Williams albums every time I was at her home, when I was about 8 or 9 years old!
Silver Jag By the way, I am Dwight's wife and I wrote the reply above! Silver Jag...don't pay any attention to the thumbs down, if they weren't exposed to great classics like Andy, they never learned to listen and appreciate him and all the others folks have mentioned in this comments section. Thank's for posting this song!
Actually though I understand your point, I wasn't "exposed" to older music either. I grew up waaaaay out in the country with the nearest neighbors over a mile away, didn't even know who they were. My parents only listened to news, they never even owned a record player. And my older siblings only listened to top 40 rock. So my appreciation of music was totally of my own volition. But my point is, kids of the "hip hop" era seem to only care about Cell phones and video games and their accompanying "plastic" sound tracks. But as you originally replied, some younger people can appreciate music but I'm wondering what disciples of the Hip Hop generation will be listening to???
First heard Andy Williams sing this on one of his Christmas Albums back in the 1970's. I hear it now and it still brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eyes.
To me this beautiful carol is Christmas. It touches something deep inside, makes me feel warm, happy and sad all at the same time. Andy's voice is simply stunning. RIP.
What a shame, but also what a blessing of a man he was for 84 fabulous years! Thanks Andy. You will always be remebered, especially at Christmas season

Andy William, a man who understood his gift came from God and used it to praise Him.
I'm not a religious man... But this singers version brings me to tears every time...
Same here my friend.
It’s the power of Christ. He is our savior

Just had a miracle happened to me, brother God is alive and well. You don’t have to do religion. Just try God I’m just saying it works for me.
@@bobclise3087 excellent point Bobby !!!
Andy Williams' voice is like being wrapped in a soft, warm blanket, sitting next to a fireplace. It just totally warms your soul.
I was a fan for 50 years and I miss him. This is beautiful.

Nobody sings this song better than Andy Williams…NOBODY.❤❤❤
🤙 merry Christmas! 🎄
There will never be a voice like Andy Williams.
I wish we could go back to this time in life when things were so less complicated.
To me IF you can't appreciate this truly magnificent performance of Andy Williams at his absolute BEST you don't understand the complexities of singing this song or know very little about REAL music. Two hundred and nine people here who voted this down aren't very intelligent!
❤Agreed, the way he pronounces every word my Dad used to say, the voice, the talent, love him❤🌲
Agreed. This song and version by Williams is sensational.
I just Love Andy. He was Amazing. Such a beautiful song with a beautiful voice.❤❤❤
Perhaps the greatest version of Holy Night I have ever heard. Truly moving.
Not perhaps, it is clearly the most moving Christmas song ever performed. 🥲
It’s great but go listen to John Berry’s version it’s outstanding
Perhaps? There's none even close or in the ballpark
Andy Williams’ version of this song is one of the most stunning recordings ever made
Totally!!!!
I used to look forward to it every year when I was a little kid. ❤
AGREED IT MOVES MY SOUL EVERYTIME 😊
He stated that it was one of the hardest songs to sing!! He owns this beautiful Christmas tune!
Christmas is not the same on useless television . We had Williams, Como, Crosby, Martin and a few more every year. Nothing , no body touches the classic days of television during Christmas.
Agree!
Not forgetting Jim Reeves as well
I wish we could go back to those day
This is what perfection sounds like ...... Thank you .
One of the kindest and sweetest humans I've ever known. I loved this man. To hear him sing was truly a gift.
I was a child when I first heard Andy’s version . Still reach for my copy of Andy Williams Christmas album. And I’m 67

I say the same thing, he could sing the phone book and sound amazing.
Andy's version is amazing, this is true, but I feel that Perry Como's version, just about sneaks it. Both truly great though

No one holds a candle to you on this song, Andy.
I cry every time. How powerful is that to do that to someone.
even from an athiest standpoint, I think christmas is the best time of year, and this music defines the season. absolutely fantastic.
Everytime I see that word, I always think, takes so much faith to be an athiest.
Andy Williams was UNDERRATED as a singer. He makes THIS song roll in a very angelic way.
He was pure class. Christmas has never been the same without his specials.
I watched his show every week until it went off air.
What A Beautiful Song ! It takes me back in the 60's watching The Andy Williams Show and I was a kid in my PJ's in front of our tv....
Me too
This is by far the best version.
Hard to believe he is no longer with us :( He was a class act. I always looked forward to his Christmas specials as a child.
He always described this as one of the most difficult songs he ever sang , and yet he owns it . I've never heard a better version … Merry Christmas !
Merry Christmas! 2023!
His voice takes me back to being a kid at Christmas. He exemplifies what Christmas should sound like.
Daycee Caughill Same here. I like watching his Christmas specials from way back.

The clarity, tone and power of his voice will never be matched in comparison with this holy song. If this does not move you ...nothing ever will!
