Opeth fans always try to shoot me when I say Watershed is my favorite album and not Blackwater Park or Still Life. Its because of the 4 opening tracks. They are like one big song together. They go so well together and show all what Opeth has to offer. The opener of that album is supersweet and has a female singer!
Watershed had great songs and I love it, but Porcelain Heart and Hex Omega aren't that good for me... While BWP and Still Life, as you talked about them, are almost flawless
Watershed is definitely my favourite Opeth album from their heavy phase, too! Pale Communion is my favourite from their newer phase. Watershed is just a masterpiece - in my humble opinion, on that album Opeth are at the peak of their specific style, they perfected and sharpened it over so many years and Watershed is the pinnacle of that era. But of course I love every Opeth record (except Heritage maybe, which I find slightly weak compared to their whole catalogue).
Friedrich Jens I'm not Alone anymore! I never heard anyone say Watershed is their favorite until now! Even in the ranking Opeth albums it never goes top 3. Hatts of to you sir!
I can't get over the faces of shear terror you have throughout this. These guys are masters of pulling emotions from the listener. Nobody else can make something that sounds so terrifying musical.
@@Max112023 Blackwater Park is very soft for me. Not trying to say I'm a badass or anything but the guitar tones are so soft and the flow is so fluid that I can't feel the heaviness like I feel in Heir Apparent or Master's Apprentices.
To this day, Opeth are the only band to have made me spontaneously burst into tears and their place in my heart is set in concrete. All the the way through the entire discography. Words fail me when i try to describe to just how significant the emotional journeys are to me as well as how much they've played into the taming of my own demons in this life. Opeth may very well have saved my life.

A brilliant air-guitar song! This is familiar to me, listened to hundreds of times, but still works like a mule's kick! Great joice, Ruben! And great reaction, too!!
Every Opeth Song is my Favorite Opeth Song! It's just one long Journey to take every time i listen! Check Out - Opeth - Master's Apprentices (2002) Studio Version.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but I appreciated when you actually intrinsically knew, or at least to me, when you would smile at the musicality you were experiencing. Cheers!
Not at all a new song for me, but every single time I seem to forget the outro exists and when it shows up I remember what's about to come just before and get massive chills. Fantastic song.
Heir Apparent is indeed their heaviest song to date. And yet, NOTHING will prepare you for the track that follows just after that. You NEED to listen to The Lotus Eater. I have seen them live multiple times (one time even in Bulgaria with the local philharmonic) and I'm sure there will be more viewings in the future. If you ever get the chance to go to a concert, please do it. Now before they might suddenly decide to retire.
@@dregonskreper7609 heh, I mean it's "newer" I think Ruben thought since it was so heavy it was from their early discography, but it's actually one of Opeth's last heavy songs
One of Opeth's heaviest songs, easily, and one of the last death metal songs they ever wrote, and not really in their "earlier" catalog. Four albums back.
@@bakhadurmuslimov9296 It's hard to describe heaviness. I think HA is the most massive, and BWP the most intense. HA is cool to headbang to, but BWP is an incredible experience...
Technical, heavy and still very listenable. Epic band. For prog Saturday, Peter Frampton: Do you feel like we do? (Live midnight special) prog avant la lettre. On any other day please react to Persefone: Inner fullness 😊

Best song on the album. This was their last album with the Death Metal influence. Still waiting for some Fates Warning for prog saturday. White fang and Ghost of home are great from the newer era. Prelude to ruin or The arbitration are good ones from the original line up. Fates Warning were doing prog metal before it was a genre.
Agree with you on this song. It is on near infinite replay in my car, driving to work :) . Also this is from their 2008 album, so not quite as old as you might think :) . Please forget the Opeth performance at fortarock this year. It was my 3rd time seeing them and this was their worst performance so far. No atmosphere, really long breaks (even for Opeth style) and they are way better of with their own fans instead of a general audience. Hope they will be touring somewhere next year as a main act instead of a side act. 50 Minutes is way too short. :)
Opeth' music is so up there that i personally feel no musician could ever achieve it by the extinction of humanity. There are and have been so many good bands and musicians on planet. Opeth are more than that. Probably as much encompassing as music itself. I discovered them some 3 years back. Pardon but every band since then sounds pretentious/deliberate at some point of time. Porcupine tree /SW are only musicians you could consider somewhere near them. And i personally think, its impossible to get a song by opeth in particular to really perceive the way it is supposed to be in first go. Cheers Ruben. I hope you will have a Opeth poster right there..near Metallica'
Actually this is the last "growl" song Mikael wrote. He said that in an interview. Indeed one of their heaviest. Masterpiece!
Do you mean full growl song? Didn’t he write hessian peel after this?
i realize Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to watch new tv shows online ?
@Hayden Maximiliano try Flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Hayden Maximiliano lately I have been using flixzone. Just google for it :)
