First anime I ever watched. Found the first 6 OAVs of the US Renditions Dub at my Blockbuster after seeing the last 10 minutes of the 1st live action movie on Showtime while in middle school. They also had both live action films. I did the smart thing and watched what I called the "animated series" first (I had no fucking clue, I had never seen anime before in my life). Incidentally, that same Blockbuster also got the last US Renditions dub tape of OAVs 11 & 12. I did the smart thing back then and recorded all of it onto another VHS...
Damn I remember watching this when I was 5 or 6 years old on vhs I would always replay all 6 episodes man this shit brings back memories 20 years later damn I was young .

My first anime I ever watched, would’ve been complete with the zoanoid data files at the end but still cool to see on youtube after all these years, wish I still had the vhs with this whole arc on it
Will always be my first and favourite anime love it. Blew my mind when I saw it 30 years ago. We never had cartoon with monsters getting arms and heads ripped off on TV in the UK haha

@@Vamroc That'd never happen with how gore-y and violent the series was...It'd WAY to much for sponsors to market to kids, so it'd never have the mass appeal a franchise like Power Rangers had. Plus considering it's nowhere near as established as Deadpool was/is and how hard it was to get that made, it'd be very hard to try and convince Hollywood studios to green-light a R-rated movie or series based off of an old Japanese Manga/anime that not too many people know about. Which IMO it'd definitely need to be R-rated if it was going to stay true to it's source material and being anywhere near as good, otherwise it'd become just another generic kid-friendly Power Ranger knock-off.

Guy should have tried activating one of the units when he stole them, would have been almost as powerful as a Zoalord since he could lift a multi-ton truck pretty easily. The Guyver would have repaired his genetic damage from leaving processing early, he had his salvation in his hands but didnt know it.
This gives me chills to this day, was really young watchin this bloody anime but this what got me into it still get choked up during the enzyme fight tho 😢
Which Guyver unit is the strongest? 1, 2 or 3? 3 looks the strongest, like an enhanced version of 1 but when you look at 1 it seems that maybe the simplest design is the strongest.

I wonder for some time why they named it Guyver. I know Japanese use foreign words randomly or for fancy, but the main cast or even main villains lack female representation and GUYver, do you understand my concern? It's more like curiosity. I know, there women among those characters, but they play secondary, supportive, passive roles. And female Guyver appears very briefly. And there are none female Zoanoids.
This is the 90's OAV series, the full 2005 series is also uploaded if you look for it...there was also an hour long OAV film prior to this in the 80's called "Guyver: Out of Control", but the English dub of it is pretty hard to find.
The mangaka switched careers before he finished it, became a professional chef if I remember right. It sucks for sure, but given the workload, pay and the general quality of life for your average mangaka I can't really blame him.

Technically they did? OVA 7-12 (1993), 4 years after this was released. Although far inferior animation unfortunately, wasn't the same

Just started watching this today...the audio does not do the anime art justice
It's either the video audio or the actual voice recordings. But it just doesn't....fit.
Why is Genzo's voice incorrect? And so is the dialouge when Sho is screeming when bonded to the guyver I have this on DVD.
