There will never be another like Rafa! His love and passion for the game, his humility and sincerity, and that amazing tennis IQ of knowing exactly what shot to make when and gauging the emotions of his opponents, are all the reasons he’s so beloved. For me, personally, he’s been an inspiration - someone whose work ethic, optimism, passion and perseverance has been a role model for all the success that I’ve achieved in my life. He will forever be my hero, on and off the court. I truly hope he keeps playing as long as he is able to and feels the hunger for the game. ❤️
Well said, there will never be another one like Rafa.
Indeed
Sport in general will never be able to thank all those values that Rafa conveys, for example to young people, so important nowadays. He's one of the best athletes in history, not only for his sporting successes but also for how he has gotten them and his exemplary behavior inside and outside the court. Just look how from all over the world admire him. And me, as so many people, who have been watching for more than 20 years almost all his matches, I join the gratitude. I will continue there until he wants. All my respects, good luck 👏👏
I was so happy watching the match. A first round that went for 3 hrs is a great match. He had his chances and created them. It's the best match he's played this season. Unfortunately there can only be one winner.
Rafa is intellectually a modest guy, with much to be modest about.
It wasn’t only that he created chances, and broke Zverev’s serve a few times, but he couldn’t sustain that level because he had not gone deep into any tournaments to build his confidence. Against a lesser player, I think he would have won that match. Not against one of the best players in the world.
R Nadal defeat in Roland garros today
@@valeriejohnson8771
The problem is this is his best surface. He has withdrawn from Wimbledon and other tournaments are in doubt. I wouldnt be optimistic.
He says he played well. I think he played well too. Some unbelievable shots from both at times. Zverev was the better form player. But Nadal can build and hopefully get another title or olympic medal before retiring.
Always a joy watching Rafa on and off court. Appreciating the times we can still see him in action, win or loss
He is such a nice man. What stress, thrills and ultimately joy the greats have given us.
We LOVE you Rafa!! You were so incredibly gracious in this interview, as you always are! You gave so much insight about the level you're playing at, what your thoughts/ plans are for the future, WHY you push yourself to the extreme, what you are willing to do to overcome, and just loved that you describe yourself as a simple guy! 😊 You played extremely well today, and the best part is that you were happy and satisfied with your level even though it didn't give you the win You knew the mountain you were facing with Zverev at the very top of his game!
So much gratitude for all the wonderful years you've given us, and you're not quite done yet! You are an absolute inspiration! Blessings to you & your beautiful family!! ❤
This man and Roger are the reason I picked up a racket and played tennis professionally.Thank you for every memory and hope to see you here in RG one more time. ❤️
Tennis will never be the same. Thank you Rafa, for all you have given to us and congratulations on a BRILLIANT career that, hopefully, isn't quite over.

Rafa legacy
Unsurpassable
In clay only…
I 'd love to see Rafa and Carlos play in double at the Olympics 2024.
I love Rafa 's truth, he never sugarcoats, he tells the truth "You need to practice this and the only way to practice is competing".
The 2nd set was so close.
@RaymondChenon Yes! The 2nd set was so close and it was tough to see Rafa lose the tie-break. However, the fact that he raised his level and adjusted his tactics in the 2nd was great to see against the No.4th tennis player in the world who is white hot right now!
Nadal's truth is objective truth. He played a very good match, but Zverev played on amazing level. I am sure with this level he would crush many top players, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Rublev, Ruud, probably even Alcaraz and Sinner. Zverev was unbeatable today simply. Nadal should be proud of himself and he definitely should try to continue. Bravo, Champ! Respect from Djokovic fan.
Thank you Rafa. You are one of the greatest tennis player in the history of the game.
Many Thanks Rafa for everything you have achieved and done for Tennis.
I’ve never heard an interviewer tell first round loss, tennis player, congratulations at the press conference with the very first comment, lol, only to a king of clay like Rafa!
He anticipated the fact this was Rafa's last match at RG, and he wanted to congratulate him for his entire career. Came out a bit weird, but that's why Rafa said: "I understand"
He revived my love for tennis. It will be dismal without Nadal.
I agree. I’m loving watching sinner for some of the same reasons (equanimity and maturity as a young player and amazing shot angles!). But the fire of a Rafa?? Once in a lifetime.
He is the best I will miss him very much when he stop playing tennis but not yet i ihope he is coming back ❤️
You're still one of my favorite tennis player Rafa, salute 😊
I liked how he replied to that opening "nervous question", true empathy to realize how the reporter was very uncomfortable in the moment.
You played great
You had chances
So sorry to see you not win
But I hope you come back
Regardless your record will never ever be broken
Best to you
Such an inspiration, we love you so much! As was often the case, bad luck (draw & weather) but you made the best of it!
Hoping the body stays healthy so you can play Olympics and beyond.❤
Rafa you are a true champion and a true gentleman! ❤❤❤
14 time champion in tennis history for 100 years thanks rafa
Love you Rafa🎉 from my bottom of my ❤️ I simply 😢for what you have done since 2005
it hurts that we're losing the greats! these new tennis players aren't the same!
I just cried my eyes out when it was the match point...I live in Paris, i met him many times, and to know that i'll never see him again hurts so much...19 years that i follow his career and that he was my favorite player all those years...I'll miss you so much legend, thank you for all the emotions. Vamos!!!!!
He will be back. Vamos Rafa!
Where did you meet him? On the street? That's pretty cool.
@@Fluuuvnext to Roland Garros, there is a pratice center where you can see all the players arriving, so when Rafa gets off the official car, he comes to us and signs, takes pictures, ect. But i also knew in wich hotel he was staying, so i met him there sevral times through the years, and it was nearly just me and him (sometimes, about only 2 fans were with me). Yesterday was his last match at Roland Garros, and today i'll go to his hotel to say goodbye...I think that i'll cry like a baby...
@@Sandrineworld You are very lucky to meet Rafa in person. I am a hardcore Rafa fan, as well. No other player makes me passionate and emotional like Rafa does when I watch him play tennis. To me, tennis will never be the same without Rafa.
@@Sandrineworld amazing. Do you just stand outside the hotel all day? How do you know when he's leaving the hotel?
He never has to win another match, he has made his mark on 🎾
I always respect Rafa for his fighting spirit through these years. I also respect for the fact that he never last his cool on the court, he never slams his raquets, as far as I watched his matches.
Humilde?
❤ Rafa we love watching u play..thats ok sometimes we win sometimes we loose...stay healthy and be happy..God bless you... 🙏🏻 take care... 🙋♥️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Incredible athlete and human being that will be remembered for his fighting spirit forever! 🦬🇪🇦 Coming from Nole fan.
His love for sport is massive and that's why he is playing now, he does not want to have any regret.
You can feel his passion and arrives to people.
Retire happily and move on, Raf. We all know there's only ONE Rafa.
Rafa: Greatest to watch electrifying, rage bull🐂 you will be missed. VAMOS RAFA until you decide to stop
Thank you for uploading the full interview!
My favourite for all time, the G.O.A.T
not the time to talk about Djokovic , breathe deep please ;)
Serbs don't have mercy, but I won't talk. Rafa is legend of the sport, good luck to him in the next job, it was fun watching his battles with other 2 legends
@@miso1995srb there is some life without being some " goat " no ?? ;)
@@miso1995srb .... Serbs ?? LOOOL do you have to think i am " serb" ??? Djokovic can't have any support out of Serbia is that the shit you sell ?? be seirous plase !!
@@antoinev9733Lol, all the Big 3 are GOATs. Just a few slams more Djokovic has because his rivals went down earlier and he's younger. Nothing more really. They used to consistently beat each other in their primes. One can even argue if Federer was Djokovic's age he would completely dominate their rivalry but it's what it is. Novak is grateful for that too and the fans too should give them respect because they have played at the same level.
What a graceful dude!
With this version of Zverev anyone would have lost so nothing to blame or be sorry for. Rafa still has his tennis, hope he will finish this season with good results.
Love him so much ❤️
It’s like the media wants him to retire for the ‘story’. How many times must he say he has not decided 🙄
They do this will all of the older players. Focus on the game!
Rafa you have been such a pleasure to watch over the years, such endurance and the most exciting player to watch. Thank you ❤
We can all learn from sports legends like Rafa & Novak who, despite serious injuries, come back to compete & show love & respect for the sport of tennis. What is Rafa's driving force to continue? He gave us a respectful answer which everyone of us can also apply in our own career. Amazing work ethic from Rafa that we can all learn & apply in our own lives.
I think he played well against one of best players the last few months. Too bad Roland Garros was a stepping stone. But, I hope he keeps improving and we will see. Regardless, good match and Sasha is playing lights out!! Rafa will be my inspiration always.
he needed that second set for a miracle to occur. he had his chance. sad that he couldnt play a lesser player for a couple rounds. might have been a different story.
Miss you Rafa, you made the tennis court alive of over 20 years!
The best medicine for the last challenge in 2025! Frankly speaking, he was not ready for this year's event, but such an unusually special tournament that he couldn't skip. That may leave him a margin of rethinking on the final challenge, to enter it fit! Not a question of conquering it or not, but of losing convincingly. That should be his way to put a period.
Nadal you're in my hard the best 👌 tennis player the best person an amaizing houmen i love to see you again please don't give up not yet ❤️ come back one more time in Roland caros ❤thanks for many years whoching you plaing tennis thanks for oll this yyears ❤❤
Rafa, tu resteras toujours le plus grand ! ❤
Vamos Rafa! 🍺
Pretty after novak Dkokovic. Then, maybe.
Mdr jamais
🤝🤝👍
T'es pas dans l'excès toi 😂
WOW
The truth is that even when he is completely healed from the injuries his age will count against him. Either way he needs to start winding up a very great career. It must eventually come to an end, no matter what. Congrats to Rafa for all his unbelievable achievements in tennis. A great champion indeed.
If he say NO to retirement. He meant it. Practice and enjoy. No more pressure no more injuries. Only happiness.
Djokovic fan here:
It is a complete DISGRACE not to give Rafa protected draw for whats most likely his last RG where he made prob unbreakable record. Ridicilous!
Nothing but love for Rafa. But my inner voice sais...it´s not over, Rafa played huge, just matches are missing
GRANDE RAFA TE HEMOS DISFRUTADO MUCHO MUCHO
Légende , la résilience ❤️
Go go rafa, play tennis as long as you can play,we enjoy seeing you playing.just watch your health.
Nadal played pretty well I felt.
this is his sort of come back..year with injuries... playing at this level..he shouldn't rush retirement... perhaps take it easy this year and next year make it one final go but again he know how his mind and body feel..I guess we are never ready for a day without him on court ... amazing memories..my fav is the Wimbledon win against Roger...
Always love and with you through yours thicks and thin❤
Thank you for all the the joy, and excitement you have given over the the years Enjoy your life and especially your little one! All my best to you. Thank you for always being a gentleman and fu.l of grace and class. Love for you and your family.
Respect to Rafa. ❤
Love you so much Rafa 🐐👑 🙌🏻🙏🏻😘, miss you already🥺.., please I beg you not to stop yet🙏🏻, come back and I want to see you more🥺💕....
Nighty night🐂💔
Now that you begged him he’ll listen to you and come back…😂
"my body is a jungle", what a way with words. vamos.
He is full of himself. For the past 4 months, he knew he will play RG but kept denying that by saying he wasn't sure if he will play.
Stop lying. You will probably be back next year at RG.
You have nothing to prove and retire.
Why tarnish your legacy.
and the tiger and the snake LOL
@@JAM-fm8ltno, he didn't know. He had the intention, yes, but he could injured himself at any point at all and not play anymore. One more injury and he's out forever. He won't try to recover again
@@JAM-fm8ltHe is coming back.
@user-eq7mo9st3u In his and in your dream may be. It's not that he is not good enough to win few rounds in ATP 250 or ATP 500 if he was injury free, but masters 1000 or GS no chance at all plus very soon his protective ranking he is using to get into main draws will be gone. Once his protective ranking is gone then his current ranking will get him in the main draws of futures and challenger tournaments.
After putting all the hard work over past two years I believe it's not the time to stop for Rafa after this loss. He played at very good level. Need few more matches like this to get deep run into tournaments. We will see Rafa back in Paris for the Olympics and then into hard court season in America. Best to skip the Wimbledon !!
I LOVE Rafa …
and that Shirt is awesome!! 💪🏽🔥❤️🔥
Please come back next year Rafa 🙏 This can't be the end 😭
His clay court swing wasn't ideal prep. There were frequent flashes of what he is still capable of on the dirt and it shouldn't be ignored that Zverev played a great match. 78% first serves and winning 3/4 of them is a brick wall! But there wasn't time to prepare for that. For the Olympics, perhaps.
Give us a couple more months, a third Olympic gold would be a great way to finish and walk away showing the game we remember. Whichever way, we respect you...
Love Rafa ❤️
Rafa you were great, no one would play better in your situation. It was great match.
Why does nearly EVERYONE miss what Rafa actually said. He is not running away. He stated that if you don't compete at the highest level you will likely lose, no matter what the history and even if healthy.
Just reinforces my understanding that so so so few people who watch tennis understand it at all. Rafa has not been competing, because of injury, consistently for a long time in tennis terms. The idea that people can be sad from this, like the reporter saying it's a sad day, what a bunch of garbage are inappropriate assessments of today's match. As Rafa said, if you are not competing consistently you cannot expect to win against top players.
You (collectively everyone ) should take away from this that he says he feels healthy. That's more important than a win here at this point in time. I truly wish people were more intelligent and could make this the simple thing it is.
GOAT.
Draw is a draw but I think the biggest question to be asked is how for example Nishikori ranked lower than Nadal plays with 160 something in the world and Nadal plays top 5 straight away. You would expect Nishikori to draw someone from top 50
Like u said it is a draw…
If a “ draw is a draw” why are you asking this question?
Yes, draw is a draw and it's terribly unlucky draw for Rafa. Nishikori played a qualifier, qualifier played qualifier, Vz played Fognini, Rune plays Evans, Alcaraz played Wolf...list goes on...unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do, just bad luck..
Agree. I read somewhere saying 50/50 Zverev or Carlos. Why? How is it even possible it’s one of these two? Makes no sense.
@@Nat-le4umStill stupid that FO organizers can't give a seeding to a 14 time champion 😂
No way Rafa - DONT RETIRE Yet- he showed his talent, what a shot maker- he clearly will have a chance again , if injury doesnt stop him- he still has it - needs more matches !
I must admit that in the early years, he exasperated me because he was too strong But eventually, I was won over by Rafa's tennis and also by the fact that he is such a nice person. I've been going to Roland Garros for 30 years, and I've had the chance to see him over the past 20 . An era is ending. Thank you, champion.
Vamos Rafa
Rafa, pls play some more tournaments🙏🙏🙏. I watch tennis only because of you.
Rafael did a lot in his lifetime, didn’t he. Going to miss him.
Damn some guys are just different !
There is a secret power inside each soul
Rafa is intellectually a modest guy, with much to be modest about.
Rafa 🙂👍
Rafa you have nothing to prove, you are an inspiration to all and an absolute legend. We thank you for everything but please retire, at this point this is affecting your legacy and possibly your body too
In no way this is affecting his Legacy! He will always be on of the best in this Sport!
22 GS
14x Roland Garros
And many many achievements more!
A big man 👍
what to excpect ?
atp 250, challengers, atp 500.
Stop masters 1000.
earn atp points. wins. Confidence. No issues
Gestion like Gasquet, Wawrinka.
And come back next year ready !
Thank you
DAmn already out , we miss Rafa and Roger on court:(
Legend ! ❤️
14 times ! That says it all.....exhilarating!
Nothing to be ashamed of,the match was extremely competitive, high quality stuff, great rallyes and beautiful volleys from Nadal.
Too bad these 2 had to play one another in the first round
tu es le meilleur du monde
Bravo Nadal 💕
we all know he would be in R2 had it been a different R1 opponent. This match was more a semi final/final. That being said Rafa still has a lot room for improvement/fitness whereas Sasha played his top tennis. Glad to see the veterans doing well Monfils Gasquet Stan but equally glad to see the NewGen success - there´s a big gap of meh tennis standard in between
There won't be any improvement anymore. Movement is gone, body breaking apart, can't serve with that shoulder. It's over now, it was fun while it lasted but truth be told, we all knew it was the end in 2022.
He doesnt sound like a man whos finished!
Sounds more like a man who's Spanished
He played very well. It happens. All praise to the opponent and his win!
Why not try next year? I think he will be back.
I never had a chance to play...just judged by everyone else... At least your u Rafa took your chances to play did what you could.
Some of us never even had a chance
Rafa, please, just let it go… let your body rest and move on. Learn to accept all good things come to an end. You don’t need to prove anything to nobody. You’ve achieved greatness… it’s time to turn the page!
Rafa❤
