Great games! Love seeing Gar cunning getting more love. I've been playing this too, though I had no idea about the Val/Tie interaction, that's really good to know! One thing I will suggest though is that Ma Klounkee puts in fantastic work in this deck. As a means of control if need be, but also to refresh shields on Evazan/Smuggler. You can also rescue Val if you think she's going to die inefficiently.
"don't have the tools to deal with shields" Saboteur? Fighters for freedom takes out Dr Evzan with 1 swing. Sabine unit is like pseudo saboteur for shields, you can use her on attack to defeat a shield before combat damage so she kills Crafty Smuggler with 1 swing. In both cases, since shield is defeated before combat damage they also lose the +1 from Gar, which means these units also survive swinging into the shielded units. I feel like a lot of players forget saboteur does more than just bypass sentinel.
Yea those would be good the problem is they are too slow unless you are able to drop them and take initiative. The Gar Deck is pretty light on action uses so it can be hard to get out ahead of him. and if you drop a 3/4 exhausted as your turn its easy to run a shielded guy into it to take it out before they have a chance to swing in.
Yeah there was a twitter reply from Tyler Parrott that confirmed the interaction that the bounty resolution is controlled by the opponent so its an opposing source of damage

A more efficient way that game 3 krenic couldve handled the evezan was instead of attacking it with both leader and pershing instead ping leader with pershing for a damage then krennic can defeat it in one attack. You take only 1 more damage on leader but then pershings healyhier and get an extra draw out of it. Just an observation i saw
Seems like side-boarding in three Vambrace Flamethrowers would be a good idea against Gar if you are playing Red- anything, right? Would not be a hard counter to the deck but it would help.
Seeing as this is the first deck to sweep the gauntlet, do you think it's viable in a competitive setting? Do you think it's a tier 2 deck that has just been slept on so far this set?
Seems decently competitive, but this was only best of one. In my experience it can go either way and a lot of it depends on the luck of the draw. I have played against Sabine Green and have lost and won against it about 50/50. Qi'ra Green has been really hard to beat with this. I wouldn't say it's a guarantee win by any means, but it is a fun deck for sure
The results would say Krennic has nothing on Qi'ra and the restore 2 from krennic is irrelevant as way too much can hit in for 7 now with surprise strikes, ECL for Poe, etc. Having a personal preference is fine but until the next set, it'll be interesting to see if Krennic pops up much more in the meta and I think Qi'ra will continue to be on top.
Qi'ra is absolutely the better leader. Saying krennic is better because of 2 that flips on 5 resources? You're not mitigating a ton. The point of saying all it does is get rid of shields and then what?.. Krennic doesn't get rid of the shields at all. Both leaders don't do well into this PARTICULAR matchup, but saying Krennic is a better leader overall is just not true.
Think you're on to something about qi'ra not being better than krennic. However, we've been testing Green Gar and that just seems leagues better than both of them tbh. Ecl lom Pyke for 5 power is great, 3/5 client, legal authority is crazy in the deck, ECL fen rau with either mando armour or legal authority is nuts. Looping legal authority with gar is vile. It'd be awesome to see somebody else test it out. Although you've already done yellow gar in the gauntlet it'd be cool to see Green. Also feel like qira doesn't belong in green. She feels like she suits a similar play style to blue vader or red Iden from set one.
I was a Krennic believer, but i think one key point for qi'ra is the deploy into overwhelming barrage turn is much better for qi'ra and helps clean up the board more consistently because of the damage she dealt and the extra attack she has compared to Krennic.
Overwhelming Barrage could have killed the Phantom. As per my understanding, the damage is dealt by the unit targeted by the event, so it could kill the Phantom

"this unit cannot be damaged, captured or defeated by enemy card abilities." The unit deals damage to the Lurking Tie. It takes no damage, because it's damage from an ability. Only combat damage can damage Lurking Tie.

Against aggro I’ve used criminal muscle and devotion too.
Are you sure on this Val/LTF interaction? LTF specifically says "enemy card abilities". Val is never considered an enemy card.

Gar has been my boy since set 2 came out, been playing him blue but damn that clinic is definitely a reason to turn him yellow. Great vid boys.
I agree with Nathan. Cunning is so very good and when it is used against you it almost feels broken

Reminder that Snoke is non-leader so it still would not have been enough even without the first blaster.

Thoughts on triple dark raid in this deck? I’ve been building gar Saxon for a while and trying to make him work
I was considering it but I think the deck ends up looking a little different if you go that route. Def worth exploring though!

I think it's certainly viable in a competitive setting. The biggest thing would be developing a solid sideboard strategy.
