    I love this channel. The only suggestion that I have, is adding some lower budget rods and reels that will do the job well. I wish I could afford Steez and Orochi. I understand that you are giving us the BEST information, but we can’t always afford $800-$900 frog combos(or whatever style) and afford to buy anything else.

    I’ve had several days where the fish would explode violently on the frogs, sometimes coming completely out of the water, and totally miss the frog. Over and over, big fish just kept missing it. I wonder if slowing down my cadence or trying a different frog style or color might work in those situations. It’s so frustrating.

    Waiting to feel the bass take the fish helps let you know when to set hook. You can even pull ever so lightly to see if the bass has it. Just light enough to feel a little resistance then jack it. Most of the time they don't spit it out because they are used to prey squirming and trying to escape their mouths.

    It would seem obvious but you might have mentioned that when you are doing your jerks you should be doing them on a slack line. As always this was another excellent video.The problem I have is how to bend the hooks out. Obviously too much and you will just snag yourself in the grass. Do you always bend them out or sometimes out and up. I suppose that would depend upon the frog you are using.

    • @thehookuptackle_usa

    Ok a lot of good stuff . However you don't have to use high $frogs to be successful. I fish frogs only and between 5-6 days a week in between ice coming and going in NW PA. . I catch 5-6# bass on Trucend frogs in 3different sizes, Runcle frogs , and Booyahs regular and Jr podcrashers as well as some other less expensive frogs. I do not walk frogs as I fish very dense mats and pads. I would like to add to your "bow" to the frog on a hook set method. I think you may have left out a part that is extremely important while bowing ? Most likely because you just naturally do it while "bowing" . As you bow point the rod down at the fish and most importantly reel up twice before setting the hook. This will lead to the part about feeling the weight of the fish that someone asked about. The reason you don't want a fast hook set is that you are actually cracking the whip and forcing the fish mouth open instead of when the fish feels the pressure of the line tightening it will clamp down harder to prevent the bait from escaping which is a perfectly normal reaction. This will increase your hook up ratio better than buying a high priced frog and trying to walk it. Just sayn'. I did enjoy your video and references to high priced gear over all . My rods are heavy fast and x-heavy fast with Lew's 8:1 reels. But if you don't get an initial good hook set none of the gear really matters.

    • @morganyoder4277
      @morganyoder4277 Рік тому +1

      You will never break a rod that is fishing what it is rated for unless you have damaged it in advance. Dobyns makes some of the toughest rods, and according to many, including me, some of the best frog rods, 736, 766, 746 all are good.

    • @rhodesianhunter9360
      @rhodesianhunter9360 Рік тому

      @@morganyoder4277 Yeah, but I have yet to see a bass rod rated for 70-80lb braid, but maybe I'm wrong? Also I don't understand why some manufactures state thier rods for 10-17 mono, but then say or 30lb braid. I would think the braid would snap the rod first.

    • @morganyoder4277
      @morganyoder4277 Рік тому +1

      @@rhodesianhunter9360 I think they base it off of proportional line diameter. So 30 lb braid might have 10 lb mono diameter if that makes sense. All braids apply the exact same force onto the rod no matter what weight they are rated for because they are all inherently no stretch. The only thing that changes is the tensile strength and likelihood of the line snapping at whatever force applied which is why heavier line is important for thick cover since there is so much force going on. Nearly any rod is capable of taking the force of braid but it depends on your hookset mechanics. Snapping a hookset is much more likely to break a rod because the rod accelerates far more when not under load than when under load like you would when setting under tension. Also nearly every flipping rod or generic heavier rod can take a very powerful hookset because materials are such high quality. Like I said you will never break a rod capable of taking a hookset using braid like a flipping stick unless it is already damaged or torqued in a way that does not follow the action of the blank like high sticking.
