To clarify some of the background here: years ago, like maybe nearing a decade by now, Blizzard themselves released a mod containing all the assets and a fairly accurate replication of the data of the original Warcraft 3, possibly as an older scrapped sketch of Refunded. There are numerous bugs (we don't have the Steam Tank model for example T.T) but it's really impressive overall and completely free to access for everyone to my knowledge, not even gated behind an actual purchase of SC2.
This mod also contains a number of Blizzard-made HD models I have never seen anywhere else, seemingly tied to an internal project called "War3HD". These include all versus heroes and their summons (but not the campaign-only hero models such as Arthas, Jaina, Thrall, Grom, Furion or TFT Illidan) as well as almost all Demon units (the voidwalkers and succubi are AWESOME!) and a few miscellaneous things such as human towers. You can see the War3HD farseer, tauren chieftain, blademaster and spirit wolves in this video.
However the War3 mod is largely incompatible with base SC2 by itself. There are no changes to any Starcraft units so stuff like attack and armour types wouldn't work, and the stats are of course hilariously off, as in "half a dozen flying machines kill a mothership" off. The War3 mod also uses actual goldmines and trees faithful to WC3 for its resources, and internally uses the two unused resource types ("Terrazine" and "Custom" by default) to represent those instead of mapping them to minerals and vespene. A conceptually easy but very tedious thing to fix. Oh and some of the filters are different too, without any changes Barrage on siege engines lets their anti-structure attack obliterate all ground and air units in a screen-wide radius around them XD
Any actual compatibility between War3 and SC2 is the work of this mod. The assets and basic implementation of WC3 factions was provided by Blizzard. This is similar to the Azeroth Reborn project, in that the War3 mod does not include campaign maps, cinematics or even just the campaign voiceover, but does provide all the unique units, heroes etc.
Please be aware that changing the pathing to more resemble WC3 (or BW for that matter) is pretty much impossible.
Little bit of balancing required lol. The Wc3 player could have ended this at any point he wanted. He was probably asked to just stand in base, cause if he walked across the map at any point before zerg had 6 bases. the game was cooked.
Might not be intentional, the orc made a lot of mistakes.
Lightning shield on a frontline unit. 20 a second= all zerlings dead in 2 seconds.
Hydras dead in 4 or 5 seconds counting without the dps of the units itself.
Beats the versions of wc3 v sc2 where 2 marines can beat a hero

@@jasonsoliva6678 basically, but unfortunately those grounded battlecruisers your opponent gets for free when they build a barracks are also balanced around the assumption that you will have some form of CC or lock-down ability, which i think nobody has except the infestor's fungal which is a lategame tech

The HOTS team had 100+ employees on it when they were building it, & blizzard contracted out all the artwork for reforged to ppl on fiverr
This is nice, but it also bums me out a little, because it's a reminder that Blizzard never made the much longed-for (by me) WarCraft/StarCraft crossover RTS that I often dreamed of in my teens and even my early 20s; I can see it now: interesting interactions between Blight and Creep, proper StarCraft hero units with XP and shidt, DEMON HUNTERS BEING IMMUNE TO DARK TEMPLAR CLOAKING BECAUSE BENDING LIGHT MEANS NOTHING TO SPECTRAL SIGHT
And UNIQUE crossover units. Can't forget those. I thought about those a lot.
It's alright, whoever made this mod clearly has intentions of improving it and iterating upon it, so your dream of a crossover may not be a just a dream anymore. It won't be official, but it's something.
that would be insane, imagine how hard it would be to make a mainline game that has 7 factions, hero units, spells 😂 balancing it would be basically impossible. SC2 already is fairly broken in terms of balance after over a decade of balance attempts

idk about 2 but in Broodwar, Royal Stove gives you a hardcap for individual factions, with the (relatively very minor) downside that building supply for 1 army won't increase your cap for the other.
In Warcraft, they all share supply, or food. So the hardcap doesn't increase, but you can build either farm or zig, at your leisure, and make either 5 ghouls or footmen, also at youe leisure.
@@OpiatesAndTits Ironically a zerg might be able to neural a WC3 worker and make 200 supply of WC3 units without any upkeep in play at all. Not sure how this mod assigns the overarching mechanics but it at least _seems_ to be based on the race chosen when the game starts.

I'm amazed how Bliz hasn't created an official "Warcraft VS Starcraft" game, with common resources, SC heroes too (or not), etc, in a fully fleshed out RTS manner (HotS doesn't count, since it's a moba). Shame...

This definitely needs to be balanced. WC3 attack / HP are too high for SC2 combat. A human player could just militia rush and win against any SC2 strategy in minutes, there’s no way they can defend.
Also spells need to be rebalanced, level 1 immolate on a demon hunter would wipe out any SC2 early game unit comp with ease.
Militia don't last long enough to get across the map.
There are other WC3 vs SC2 mods that are better balanced (eg: any version of the hyperwar mod, which rebalances the WC3 factions to be a lot more in line with the SC2 economy, stats, and populations; versus edition is probably the most balanced), and SC2 economy lends itself to some timing attacks that could potentially be difficult to defend.

Aside from WC3 Evolution, there are plenty of SC2 mods that include WC3 elements, like Wings of Liberty campaign but with Humans instead of Terran, or Azeroth Reborn by Synergy which is a full remake of WC3 campaign using SC2 engine.

They could use the commanders in StarCraft 2 as heroes in this map and balance the units damage output to Warcraft 3 units although the balancing of StarCraft 2 to meet Warcraft 3 might need more finesse

The orc player has terrible gold macro, zerg needs to not send small waves, that only feeds xp, they need to keep out macroing and take 3.5 -1 base ratio against orc on the map and spam brood lords to force orc to make wyverns. Orc can make a billion watch towers with that much lumber in bank also. Warcraft races with the exception of human mortars, have terrible artillery units so sunken and spore is the way to go.

Grubby tried the Koprulu mod but there wc3 had lesser stats and were more macro focused so he dropped it, this one has the same values as wc3

This looks horribly balanced tbh. Orc stayed in his base all game long, didn't do jack shit, yet zerg couldn't do anything vs. the hero abilities except with ultras. And even then the DPS was just way too low.

In Starcraft, you do really need big guns like Arclite Shock Cannons to bring down tons of Zergs, especially Ultralisks. I think on this one, couple Wyverns' Spears and Tauren Chieftain's Shockwaves will suffice.
How will upkeep and a 100 food supply work? Also a pair of zerglings probably need to only give half the equivalent xp of a ghoul. Ghouls and footmen would probably be similar to zealots. Warcraft 3 races are basically just like protoss in supply.

like 250 or 300 for a human soldier and so on...
plus if armor of heros is OP...
DIablo 2 vs warcraft 3 would be fun to watch. I imagine it similar to a rambo strat in wc3, you can build a base where you can buy potions and items or let dekard cane identify the items dropped by creeps. Also build defensive towers or units to protect your camp. And then you do the necromancer skeleton rush^^
They should add WC2 human and Orc and BroodWar Terran, Zerg and Protoss...

How would Orc deal with burrowed roaches or lurkers ? How would zerg deal with proxy grunts? How about force fields? I think orcs would struggle vs swarmhosts and nyduses.

Come to think of it, since you have neither XP nor dispells in SC armies, Necro Wagon would probably be disgustingly OP in this.

this is actually really cool compared to the version you tried a while ago, shops are substituted for a bunch of bases for the warcraft player and as an interesting second effect, lowers the base count for the wc3 player as well. Looks amazing so far

This mod not 1:1, no trees or gold mine. Damage not lore accurate. There is Marine in wc3 client and can solo a frost wyrm, really no match.

They should add Heroes for Starcraft too, as starters Kerrigan for Zerg, Raynor for Terran, Zeratul for Protoss.
sc2 has corpses, they just dont last all that long. Also ppl often reduce graphics settings so they don't really get rendered either

Of all sc2 vs wc3 match ive watched, i never seen wc3 lose a single match lol, they need to somehow balance it.

This seems interesting, but I kind of wonder is SC2 really has much of a chance?
I was thinking about it, and I feel there's so many strats in w3 that would just melt SC2 armies, like imagine how strong something like Starfall would be dealing 50 damage per tick to everything in a battle, it would singlehandedly kill everything in like 20 seconds, or how strong Meta, or a high level pitlord would be. I feel like a level 10 pit or DH could solo a whole 200 pop SC2 army without much trouble through just raw bulk and aoe.
I was thinking like... "well, SC2 has higher unit counts, so they could just avoid direct fights and harass the W3 base?"
But even then, Idk if they really can. W3 towers feel like they'd hold back any light harassment, and since SC2 doesn't have a town portal, they can't over commit to harassment and not be ready to respond to a direct attack to their base, since the W3 player can always portal home when they need to.
Would be interesting to see if I'm wrong though, and how different interactions play out!
Just on the raw numbers directly pitting the games against each other will go in favour of WC3. Once scaled to the global average of each respective game I suspect SC2 will slaughter WC3 mostly due to economic scaling and the prevalence of "cheesy" options to deny enemy heroes (with the base stats adjusted a bunch of blink stalkers, burrow roaches, cyclones or widowmemes will clown on low level heroes).
BW could be an interesting matchup but very unstable. WC3 tends to be more sustainable, but BW has the stupidly broken spells more or less as a lategame inevitability rather than tied to the selection and levelling of specific heroes.
