Great video! I love seeing my town through others' eyes. But....sorry... trip advisor is wrong. The best breakfast in Santa Cruz is Cafe Brasil or Zachary's. Try one of those next time you're in the area. Locals tend to avoid the Dream Inn, in general. We don't really avoid the boardwalk. We just go when it's less crowded (early or late in the year or weeknight evenings). Locals love the boardwalk. It holds a special place in our hearts. And the only place worth eating at on the wharf these days is Olitas. Dogs aren't allowed on the wharf because they disturb the sea lions. Shadowbrook is great, though. Locals celebrate special occasions there. And yes, we do have some HUGE raccoons up in the mountains!
Thanks! I'll have to try those restaurants next time. I think I have eaten at that first restaurant 🤔. I forgot how much I love the Boardwalk! So many great memories. I'm definitely going to start going more often. The Shadowbrook is always a great experience 😊. That racoon was like the hulk racoon! I've seen big ones before but that was a record size! Thanks again and too many more fun adventures 🍻
Our family started going to Santa Cruz 3 weeks every summer in early 1950’s. We’d stay at Johnson Cottages. Boardwalk used to have an indoor salt water plunge with the neatest wooden slides! Was a short pier too where you could have crisscraft boat rides. Also an amphitheater on the beach. The most fun was swimming out a hundred yards to a tethered wooden raft!
I actually had the pleasure of working on the renovation of that restaurant some 20+ yrs ago. Gutted the ancient duct work, from back in the day where smoking was aloud in bars and restaurants. Actually it wasn't pleasant. But then we installed a new HVAC system.
Cool video, I took my former girlfriend to the Shadowbrook in Capitola in 1985, I had the Scampi, it was delicious. I never thought of trying Jack Oneil's restaurant, but next time I visit Santa Cruz I will.
I remember the roller coster being different 🤣. That thing moves 🤯Jack's is definitely all about the location. Eating breakfast with that view is awesome. Shadowbrook is SO AMAZING!! It really is a hidden gem. A lot of people don't know it's there. You guys gotta go!
Yep I was there on the frist week of August for three days I had the classic breakfast like she did. I eat dinner there had the Ribeye steak and it was the bomb. Thanks for the video.
Fun video! I forgot that Santa Cruz is your "home." Love the "teamwork" on the trailer cleanup 😆Yeah, that area took a pounding during the Winter. Was fun to "re-live" your memories here. Cheers 🥤
Being in charge of a trailer clean up is a lot of work 🤣. Those storms were no joke. The damage could've been worse. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊. We definitely plan on getting in more Santa Cruz area content. Cheers! 🍻
Thank you, we are heading to Santa Cruz so this was really helpful. Please consider touring some of the hotels in the area. Hotels usually let you check out the rooms for free if you say you have guests coming from out town. Which is true, your viewers are your guests.😎😉
Great video ! The Shadowbrook is my favorite, I would have chosen steps down, trolly up. Walking up all those beautiful steps after a yummy dinner and full stomach is a bit of torture :)
That's awesome! Cowells in Santa Cruz is one of the best places to learn how to surf in the world. Gentle waves and family friendly. I made a video a while ago about 8 tips to get you surfing. It's goofy because I demonstrate everything in my backyard 🤣. It's still full of good advice. I love Monterey and Santa Cruz. 🏄♂️ 🌊
Not really much of a breakfast person, but if someone made it for me I'd certainly eat it! lol Looking good! Indeed, cleaning a trailer is quite the chore...even without a task master...LOL Send some of the sun to the east please. Bruce and Otis
We will send some sunshine your way 🌞. Cleaning that trailer was a big chore 🤣. Nice to have it all cleaned up. I see you guys are still going on fun, beautiful walks. I gotta get back to getting in some hikes. Have a great day, Bruce and Otis!
I always thought so, too, but he did not. Hugh Bradner - a UC Berkeley physics professor and a Manhattan Project scientist - began working on a new material for the U.S. Navy’s Frogmen team in 1951, according to the Diver’s Institute of Technology. Bradner's wetsuit wasn't perfect, though. It tore easily, the seems let in water... Jack O’Neill took that wetsuit and made massive improvements. Jack O'Neill did not invent the wetsuit, but he did create the modern-day wetsuits we have today, out of the original design by Bradner. Fun fact 🤙
Hey also, I’m always willing to come detail up your trailer! I have a car detail business in Santa Cruz but if I could set up a tripod and take some footage I would give you the service inside and out for close to free 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

That must be worth a fortune. I'll trade you my Stagnaros Restaurant for it. Lol. I'm lying, but you know what I'm talking about, eh?

I have thought about doing hotel, airbnb tours in the area. I do agree, it would be fun and helpful. I'll look into it 😉

Good point 🤣🤣. And thank you! The Shadowbrook is amazing. This was a great day in Santa Cruz 😊
cool video! lots of info, thanks for sharing! I'll be watching it again when I go to Santa Cruz
Thank you! I'm hoping to get in some more Santa Cruz content. There is so much to do there!
Great Video Paul! love the stories and all of the hard work you did 🤣
Thanks! It is hard to coordinate and instruct people to put in good work. 🤣🤣
My daughter is stationed in Monterey. I share the cool places that you go with her. She’s hoping to learn how to surf while she’s there.

I think people in Santa Cruz under estimate Jack Oniell’s bc it isn’t “local” enough - but no - it’s a GREAT place - locals should hit it more often!

Wet suit pioneer… dude invented them

Thanks for the offer, but I enjoy cleaning up the trailer; it gives me an excuse to visit 😊. Thank you 🙌
