      This is hardly any different than the Dell 24 inch 1440p 165hz TN panel that has existed since about 2016…. 😮‍💨 the only upgrade is that it is an IPS and not a TN. I just want a 240hz 1440p 24inch IPS 😩. I’ve had this Dell one since 2018 and while I like it a lot, now I want an upgrade in picture quality and refresh rate with at least 240hz. And my only options are 27 inch.

    Finally! My AG241QX developed a yogore/mura defect after years of good service, but until now, there wasn't a single, similarily specced 24 inch monitor available for a replacement. Going from TN to IPS, getting a bit of a higher refresh rate, and having an anti-glare coating with a finer structure are all good upgrades for me too. The 250€ price is awesome.

    Thanks for your extensive review on this monitor, was very useful!
    Also I can add that if you don't like the OSD control buttons (as many would do) ,
    there is actually a Windows compatible software called "I-Menu" from AOC that allows one to control the monitor settings with your mouse, works all right.
    Bought it for 239 euro in italy from amazon a month ago, quite pleased with it.
    At such price maybe one could find a second hand 27" with these specs, yet I need a 24".
    DP for my gaming rig and HDMI to my Macbook Pro, and this is just enough.

    Just picked one of these up and the image is much better than my Dell 27" 1440P 165hz IPS monitor. This monitor is very sharp and I like the colours, uniformity and contrast. The stand is good too but I mount mine on a monitor arm. Also glad it has a power supply built in to the monitor instead of one of those annoying external power bricks. Menu buttons are fiddly but hopefully set it once and be done with it but you can change the settings with the i-Menu app. IO is very limited and the red accent at the bottom of the screen is not too bad. I live in Northern Europe and availability is not too bad here.

    The main question that most reviewers did not provide about this monitor is how it performs downscaling to 1080p since it is 24-inch model. Most users are interested of getting the monitor and to be able to downscale without any downsides if they need to (demanding games etc.) Keep up the good work!

    • @TotallydubbedHD
      @TotallydubbedHD  8 місяців тому +3

      The main question is why would you buy a 1440p monitor to have it run at 1080p? Makes absolutely no sense.

    • @venibratanov
      @venibratanov 8 місяців тому +6

      @@TotallydubbedHD Ok, I will give you an example. I want to play low demanding games on 1440p, but if my system is struggling for the high demanding ones, I will downscale to 1080p to archive the desired FPS target. This is one of the reasons, the other can be because I`m also using another system (such as a games console) that doesn’t support a QHD signal. Anyway, when downscaling from 1440p to 1080p there are usually downsides such as blurry and less sharp image. It is interesting to know are those issues less noticeable for this model since is 24-inch monitor.

    • @TotallydubbedHD
      @TotallydubbedHD  8 місяців тому +2

      @@venibratanov fair enough. My honest opinion however, is that if you're going to struggle at 1440p on the regular, I'd advise getting a 1080p panel altogether. So that you don't have to worry about scaling.
      Btw, check out PC Monitors' review of it, I think Adam has covered scaling on this particular monitor!

      @godnyx117 6 місяців тому +1

      @@TotallydubbedHD I mean, you can have a feature proof experience, so it's not completely wrong. Also, the more you up the resolution, the better monitors get overall. There isn't a lot of improvement in the 1080p monitor space. It's not just less resolution but also worse colors, worse response rates, worse input lag, worse refresh rate and in general, everything worse.
      So in my opinion, it makes total sense to get a monitor that has a bigger refresh rate and use less of it in some cases, unless it's for a console that you know won't update for 6-7 years (in which case, you will also get a new monitor after that) or any other similar case. OP's request is also special and I can understand why "normal" reviews don't cover it, but it will be an interesting idea to do a review for that!

    Hey man
    Thanks for the channel, it's very informative for a UK audience compared to most stuff out there. Especially for budget gamers - I didn't know there were so many new cheap monitors that look viable for tactical fps.
    Now, to my question/s. I mostly play Valorant (immortal level), sometimes other fps but mostly competitive shooters (with an old 144hz zowie). I'm trying to decide between this AOC Q24G2A (23.8" 1440p 165Hz) and the AOC 25G3ZM (240hz VA). I didn't know fast VA's existed so now stuck with this decision. The extra pixel density of the 1440p would be useful w/ a monitor arm to bring the screen closer but the lower framerate surely means worse motion clarity. Then the VA has better contrast on top of the higher frame rate. What would you personally go for? both are basically the same price on amazon.
    Side note, do you have any issues using the motion blur reduction? I've never used one before but have friends that dislike dyac due to it giving them headaches. Is the one implemented in these monitors much different than dyac?
    Keep doing what you're doing!

    • @TotallydubbedHD
      @TotallydubbedHD  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the nice comment!
      Unfortunately, I can't give you a better answer; it's either a trade-off of refresh rate or resolution. Alternatively, you spend more and get the best of both worlds (240hz 1440p IPS/VA).
      If a combination is out of your budget, then if you use the monitor just for gaming (especially competitive), then I'd suggest a higher refresh rate over a higher resolution.
      Dyac is a form of motion blur reduction, but a bit more advanced than what you find elsewhere; but in a nutshell, it's the same effect - better motion clarity at the expense of brightness (usually) and potential headaches for those whoa re overly sensitive to strobbing.

    • @Flashplaya555
      @Flashplaya555 2 місяці тому

      Cheers for the speedy response.
      I might have to stretch the budget then. It's just when you look at value, the price goes up double when you hit that 1440p/240hz combination.
      Yeah, I don't think dyac/motion blur tech is that necessary for tactical shooters where low input lag/response times is the priority. I'd probably love it for overwatch though, with all the tracking and moving targets in that game.
      The monitor space feels like such a minefield with so many products and little, sometimes contradictory information regarding what's best in a competitive setting. A part of me wants to just go with the safe Zowie option but the colours on my current one are so washed out and inaccurate.

    When you in your video say, "The response time of the monitor is linked to the overdrive setting. The higher the overdrive the better the response time, but the worse the visual experience.", it is a bit misleading and inaccurate.
    Motion clarity is about reaching a tradeoff between Response Time and Overshoot Time, such that you have a low Total Response Time.
    Sometimes total Total Response Time is the same for different overdrive options, but one might have higher response time and the other has more overshoot which would be a personal preference between motion blur and inverse ghosting.
    Too high overdrive does indeed suck as can be seen from the measurements, which I think is what you meant, nut in general visual experience doesn't simply degrade if overdrive is higher.
    Finding a balance between the two is when the visual experience is the best. :)
    Great video!

    • @myta1837
      @myta1837 5 місяців тому

      Some info;
      Response time is the time(t) between start time, "ts" and target time "tx", which is the time at which it reaches the target color.
      With higher overdrive you go faster from start to target but it can cause overshoot.
      Overshoot is when your pixel goes beyond the value that it was intended to, after which it will go return to it's intended target.
      The time at which it has returned to the target again we can call "tr".
      So:
      Response Time(RT) = tx - ts
      Overshoot Time(OT) = tr - tx
      Total Response Time(TRT) = Overshoot time + Response time = tr-ts
      If Response Time is high the pixel will be slow to go to target, which is perceived as motion blur.
      If Overshoot Time is high you will get inverse ghosting.

    Wait… I’m ordering a new PC this week with a 4070 and I’m looking for a decent monitor to go with it. It’s been over 7 years since I owned a gaming rig so there’s some stuff I need to catch up to lol. I really like playing fps games (csgo or battlefield) at a competitive level, and from what I’m understanding gsync is not good for that? I’m a bit confused as to what to do with the settings when I get it. I used to have a benq xl2411 and played a lot of csgo on it. Is this panel worse or better than that one? Kinda confused here since a lot has changed seemingly lol.
