    Dear farmer, that was such a wonderful mix of breathtaking landscapes, perspectives on two interesting bikes, lovely dogs, calm and peaceful mood, nice little village, blue sea and spring in the air. Thank you so much for sharing these experiences with the world and me. One fine day i‘m gonna hopp on my ktm 1090r or on my old bmw and need to see your beautiful hills and beaches on my own. Only thing which irritated me were the number of dead pheasants on the road (here in northern germany they are quite rare nowadays unfortunately) and (much more) the left out fish and chips. You have to speak with rob about priorities in life. 😊 sorry for my bad english. Take care and stay healthy!

    Great video. I've contemplated the GS and other R Nine T versions many times in the past. Beautiful bikes and bullet proof engine etc, but cannot get passed the fact of no fuel indicator. I left the days of opening the filler cap and peering inside the tank back in the eighties!

    Hi, great to see the Scrambler out and about again. Really missed your videos over the winter. The GS is no where near as pretty as your (and my) XE. Love the two photos up on Exmoor near the end. Keep up the good work, thanks.

    Yes I agree with the ergonomics, I’m 6’2” and I have fitted a 20mm peg lowering kit, and 20mm bar risers to my urban gs and it’s has pretty much transformed the riding position to a much more comfortable bike.

    Hi there! I have a r nine t scrambler but looking for a 1200 XE.
    I have lowered my pegs with 20 mm and raised handle bar with about 60 mm. I also fitted a higher seat. So now the seating position is much better.
    Really like the look and the things fitted on your Triumph.

    Nice and pleasant video. Excellent photography. Devine scenarios!
    Hugo is beautifully elegant, like only perfect gentle giants can be.
    Two scramblers but in true colors only the Triumph should be called like that. The urban GS is a road bike, mainly, dressed like a scrambler. Two very different bikes. Both excellent rewarding rides.
    I’m not a fan of bikes modifying Increments, for me is acceptable very harmless changes like, different mirrors or better exhaust solutions. Nothing further.
    I even like the Mickey Mouse mirrors on the Scrambler XE, so it makes every sense in the whole classic unique style of that beautiful machine.
    The BMW, is a different animal. It looks like a scrambler but is made to be ridden as a roadster. The Triumph is a bike that suits perfectly a taller rider, and the BMW is perfect for a medium sized rider, otherwise, above 1,80 M of height will feel a little crumped riding the Urban GS.
    Thank you for the nice and well done video. 👌🏻

    Good to see you back, biking on YT Farmer! You’re right about the GS Urban suspension. I have a 2020 model in the garage, I’ve gone for a 15mm suspension raise and Wilbers for the rear going on soon. Not sure on your pricing, my one was a bit under £11k, so we know its a bike built to a price, especially when comparing it to a proper GS 1250 with its Sachs suspension. For blatting around the lanes, the Urban GS is fun, torquey, quick, just great. But if you’ve just jumped off your GS, yes its lacking in the bouncy dept!!!

    • @FarmerTorque
      @FarmerTorque  3 роки тому

      Hi Glenn, Good to be out (videoing) on a bike Sit 😊 really interesting playing with the urban back to back - as I suggested think it could be a great bike with some mods. It’s main problem for me is the Scrambler being as good as it is 🤔 Happy days

  • @Speedytrip
    @Speedytrip 3 роки тому +2

    I owned both and sold both mostly because of their suspensions. Both bikes have amazing engines (though the BMW burned quite a bit of oil even new, 1L+/10000km and BMW dealer said under 4L of oil per 10000km was within acceptable specs!). BMW raised the price this year and its a really cool, fun bike, but just not worth what they are asking for it. You definately get more bike with the money with the Triumph.

    I had BMW scrambler R9T and I would agree with you that without the proper mods it's not going to compare to the triumph XE or XC even.
    However I would suggest that the horsepower and torque of the BMW boxer motor is going to be greater than what we have on our triumph X e's 1200.
    I have the Steve McQueen version and it is a 2020 22 I cannot compare it weight wise to anything else like an XE 1200 prior.

    • @FarmerTorque

      Hi Kenneth, So we’ve finally got the film to go with your bike 👍
      I can only say how I felt jumping between the two and it’s important to remember mines far from standard and probably 15kilos lighter than a 21/22 model.
      I know having compared with standard XE (19) that mine is punchier low to mid range - And noticeably easier to turn in
      It would have to be a very smooth road indeed for the BMW to see which way mine had gone
      I still like the BM just wish it hasn’t better dynamics 🙄

    I too found the riding position on the Urban GS too cramped.I had 40mm increased height added by means of Andreani fork cartridges at the front and the same increase at the back using an Ohlins shock.I also fitted higher handlebars,lowered the pegs and fitted a taller saddle.Most of the parts came from Unit Garage in Italy and were fitted by North Oxford Motorrad. It’s now suits me much better.

    Lovely video Farmer, both great bikes, I've had long test rides on both of them, trying to make my mind up. As you said, the Triumph is comfier and better suspension...but that Boxer engine in the Urban is so addictive! And you can pick up a used Urban for sensible money and spend out on the Wilbers suspension etc and sort it. Your Triumph looks great and sounds great with that exhaust system! Cheers, Steve

    I really like the GS but it’s really uncomfortable for your leg ergonomics I also thought the seat was narrow and quite hard , yeah I could get all sorts of add ones that might make it more agreeable , but Starting from that cramped starting point It was chasing the impossible , the only thing I disliked about the scrambler is the exhaust heat , but mine was cured with a Zard low exhaust ,

    The triumph scrambler is the superior adventure machine, but having once ridden a 1982 R65 and a 1984 R100RS, the boxer engine has become part of me and so I had to go with a RnineT. It is a unique riding experience. I've never had any connection to Triumphs as a rider. I think people see the Urban G/S and forget (or ignore) that it's just a styling exercise on what is a roadster bike. The BMW bike closest to the Triumph Scrambler 1200 (in terms of what the bike is capable of, not retro styling) would in fact be the F850GS. And yeah, Euro 5 sucks. Among other things, the catalyst is thicker and heavier, the exhaust valve section is now welded to the headers, and throttle by wire is now standard. Luckily I'm in the US in a state that doesn't care about emissions and so this is mostly solved with a header kit.

    I owned an R-Nine T Scrambler and now own a Triumph Scrambler 1200XC. The BMW is just too much of a compromise with crap suspension and low specificatio9n when compared to the Triumph and yet they are a similar price. The only things the Beemer wins on is the 3 year warranty, the dealer network and BMW UK back up if things go wrong !

      @FarmerTorque  3 роки тому

      Hi Darryl, no straight answer to this one Darryl but here goes.
      I think the GS1250 is the best bike in the world overall.
      Whenever I ride one I continue to be astounded with it’s all round ability.
      The Scrambler is a different animal that exceeds the sum of its parts (parts that are pretty damn good) but most importantly it has a soul the BM can only dream of.
      BUT - it needs a de-catted exhaust - Zard ?
      And isn’t much fun in the rain.
