*FYI:* This is an updated version of a video that I made back in 2022. I deleted the original upload earlier this year amidst my channel getting de-monetized, because I was convinced that the older version of this video caused the problem (I had a trimmed down version of the movie's intro within the first thirty seconds of the video, with no commentary during that section). But I was able to re-record the dialogue and throw in some added content, so consider this the 2024 director's cut 🎬 Thanks for watching 🏍 Chapters: Intro 0:00 "Fast and Furious" Popularity 0:37 Director Joseph Kahn Fights with WB 1:38 Torque as a response to / send-up of F&F 3:10 Hot Temperatures / Faizon Love Fired 5:20 Special Effects and Re-Shoots 6:30 Torque Failure & BIKER BOYZ Connection 7:26 Director's Regrets / Bad Marketing 8:50 Cult Film Status 9:59 Fast & Furious Fatigue 11:06 Outro 12:18
Funnily enough here in Brazil this movie was named "Fury on two wheels". Distributors here really went a step forward to sell this movie as Fast and Furious but bikes.
if they really wanted to make Fast XI epic, combine their universes. Vince's twin brother is the villain from Torque. Using the cyborg technology from Hobbs and Shaw, they return to get their vengeance....
The world of subtle parodies is a dangerous one, it's hard to strike a good balance when attacking another work, if you lean too much into the mocking side you end up with an incredibly goofy and even bitter product, BUT if you play it too straight then it will be seen as just another one of those things. A great example of a great parody would be Kung Fusion, the thing apparently mocks kung fu movies stereotypes and has a silly tone, yet the action is impressive, the characters are memorable and when it gets serious it doesn't feel jarring.
The sushi line always got me lol but yeah i was obsessed with this film i remember my mom taking me to see it on premier night it really is campy fun good watch
Glad you got this one back up. Torque will always be "that one movie inspired by Road Rash" in my head. Still watching from time to time to get some giggles out.
I look at it retrospectively now as a parody. It's a "leave your brain at home and enjoy it for the pisstake that it is" sorta movie. Fast and Furious 5 before its time. As a 16 year old motorcycle enthusiast at the time of its release, it was bike porn. I personally thought Monet Mazur (Epic's sister) was really hot as a biker chick. The bike models, such as the 954 FireBlade was present and correct as was the 03 R1. I quite liked how they reskinned enduro bikes with sports bike fairings to do the cross-desert scene too, so there's still some practical elements that I could appreciate back then. But watching it retrospectively, I appreciate the subtle jibs and ribs a bit better.
Totally was in this scene during this era. The year before, they released Biker Boyz and there were huge motorcycle meetups in the parking lots, stunt shows etc. The following year they released Torque, We all got together and went and watched. The movie was so bad that we actually complained and got our money back. We expected something similar to Biker Boyz with Ice Cube. Several years later I picked up a copy out of a Walmart $5 bin as a gag. Watched the movie and thought it was sooo bad it was actually entertaining as heck to watch. I now laugh at the chick knife/bike fight instead of being appalled. Movie was marketed wrong, released at the wrong time.
I remember this. I was in my early 20s, & living in Houston, when this came out. I mostly just remember Torque as that Biker movie with Ice Cube, lol. I never bothered to watch it, & had no idea that it had a terrible reputation. Maybe now i'll give both it & Biker Boyz a view.
I remember when I was 14 or 15 it was on TV every other weekend and we talked a lot about it school, specially about the Jet bike that was brochure described. More than a mockery, it was the FnF bike edition for us.
I remember seeing it in theaters with a buddy of mine at 15. After like a couple weeks it was out of theaters, when I told him, we were both surprised because we thought it was good. Not great but there’s much worse crap in theaters for much longer.
As a motorcycle rider, there is a big distinction between road and dirt. When they go off road, the bikes are just dirt bikes with road bike fairings on them. Stupid.
That movie was so bad it's good. Cool to see someone made a review of it, thanks! Whenever I catch it on cable I make sure to leave it. The cheesy dialogue, the over-the-top action scenes (the sportbike duel, anyone?) Jane's Addiction, Static-X and Nickleback on the soundtrack...this movie is a 2000's as it gets!
big fan. this is a comedy & biker boyz was the serious one. both excellent. watch biker boyz first for a heart-string pulling story and watch torque to laugh and then go to bed. don't forget the popcorn.
I enjoyed it when it came out and I'd happily watch it again. I think the plot was actually decent but yes, some stuff was over the top, but nowhere near f&f...
The only movie to ever feature my two wheeled pride and joy...is this film, same bloody colour too if memory serves. Blue Triumph TT600...underrated gem of a bike, once you fix all the "quirks" they have.
This was still an enjoyable movie despite it being fairly low-grade. The only thing that really bugged me is the fact that Henry's bike was obviously belt driven, and they portrayed it as having a chain which he used to murder the guy.
I read a recent tweet from the director that Village Roadshow was trying to make a TV series revival but the rights are tied up. Martin Henderson is still out there killing it so I'd love to see him return to the character.
torque was a great show...but it isn't remotely intended to be serious. Like the scene where they have a streetbike fight under a train, and each rider pauses in front of a 20 foot tall soft drink poster.....under a bridge.....That scene is pretty much the metaphor for the whole movie. But, the intro I used to sell tv's and home theatre for several years.
Love this movie and Joseph Khans style. It's looney cartoony action with unique camera transitions. Just supposed to be fun and silly. Have this and Biker Boyz on DVD.
I only recently saw this movie and it’s honestly a pretty good movie. The funniest part was the direct joke on The Fast and the Furious and the movie literally having the same actor who played Vince as the main villain
I'm sure you're right that the month/year and the advertisement had a lot to do with this film bombing, but I think the reason why Fast & Furious was successful and Torque wasn't is also because of the type of vehicle. Firstly, billions of people drive cars and only a very small fraction ride motorcycles. Cars are more relatable than motorcycles. Secondly, and this I believe is understated, cars are more attractive than motorcycles are, in part because they're not only customizeable, but people can visibly see and show off their vehicles to the public. I'm not saying motorcycles aren't customizeable, of course they are, but it's not as attractive nor as visible to the public.
i only saw this movie once, when i first saw it. as a kid and i thought all the cgi and stunts looked goofy and it made it too funny to take it seriously lol
I like Torque, and i didnt think he is so bad. I watched it several times since TV in my area do a lot of reruns or something like that. And i like Biker Boyz too.
It was a good movie. I love everything about it. There is not much similarity between action sequences and cinematography of the movie with Fast and furious movies.
I watched Torque and Biker Boyz as a 9yr old, and thought these movies sucked but in a good way to where I enjoyed watching them because they were funny 😂
Hi From India, We Had Simmilar Kind Of Movie, Starring Super Model Who Had Done 1-2 Movie At Max Bit The Movie Dhoom 2004 Established him In Comming years As An Action Hero(John Abraham). You Must Watch it It is Serious Action Well Adaptation Of Fast & Furious. 2 Sequels Were also Made.
Biker boys was so much better than Torque. I was expecting an Akira and boy it was disappointing. I'm glad I didn't see it in the movie. Biker Boys had a good story and probably could have had a sequel.
Torque was a movie my dad was adamant about taking us kids to seeing to just warning to see it but having to haul all 7 of his kids to a theater 😂😂. He was def part of the target demographic so growing up
Torque was definitely a more realistic depiction of the biker life however the stunts in both Biker Boyz and Torque are over the top and some are impossible with a super bike. Super bikes aren't built for huge jumps so one can see they modified dirt bikes to look like super bikes. The opening wheelie scene is impossible as once a bike wheelies its rate of accelerate slows down dramatically. The tires on super bikes don't provide enough grip for the fast desert scene.

This movie was ok but BIKER BOYZ IS WAY BETTER
Biker boys is the best
I haven’t heard about that movie in a long time
Biker Boyz was ass
that's insane lol. this movie was funny and trying to take this piss out of f&f . biker boys was actually serious, which makes is ghey lol.
doooooont loooook doooooown
“So much Torque the chassis twisted coming off the line”
My favorite scene from Shrek 2
Funnily enough here in Brazil this movie was named "Fury on two wheels".

Haha… I forgot they tried to make Ice Cube an action star in the early 2000s.
Aries Sprears said he’s built like a propane tank.
So what's Aries built like? @@andrewjames7438
lol he did triple x after this if i remember lol
Bro I liked ice cube as a actor
@@gamelard1963 triple x? Sounds like a gay porn stars name
I actually watched it 5 times.. one of my guilty pleasure movies
Honestly this was one of my favourite movies when in the 2000s. I enjoyed it more than fast and furious at one point. Definitely a hidden gem
I don’t know but i loved this movie in childhood. I can say it’s one of my guilty pleasures…
Yeah bro, i remember when i was 9-10 years old, we get this movie on CD (of course it's not original) and we love it. Good old days
Soundtrack is on point 👌🏼
@@kallekalinski2934 listen to photo of shane and ford by trevor, i loved that one.
I liked it too

Another absolutely brilliant one for horror is Tucker and dale vs evil. Also cabin in the woods is great for that aswell.

Damn I feel like riding now! Haha
Before Tokyo Drift came out, bootleg dvds labelled it as The Fast & Furious 3
2000s were a golden era for bootleg DVDs. All the swap meets and yard sales had em.
Maaaaan your videos are just ALWAYS exciting no matter what the topic is! One of the best youtubers out there imo!
Torque is one of those movies that is "good" to watch once, but only once.
Kinda like Evil Bong, fun to watch one time!
Really good video, never heard of the film but defo interested now
Not sure why it didn't succeed. Loved it as a kid. Still remember this movie.

Loved this movie when it first came out. And I still love this movie today.
I rented this out as a teenager many times from blockbuster lol
It can't be a coincidence that the BikerBoyz cover looks alot like Road Rash.
Early youtube had cool edits from this movie with music, now learning about the background of director I understand why it worked so well.
As a motorcycle rider, there is a big distinction between road and dirt. When they go off road, the bikes are just dirt bikes with road bike fairings on them. Stupid.
Why is it stupid? As a car guy, modding street or track cars, even civilian cars into off roaders are cool as hell and not uncommon too
Torque was fun. I had it on dvd day one..
But that neveldine/taylor camera work on biker boyz was the only better factor
That movie was so bad it's good. Cool to see someone made a review of it, thanks! Whenever I catch it on cable I make sure to leave it. Nobody could believe that Martin Henderson from Shortland Street, could ever rob people on motorbikes. No way!!
The only movie to ever feature my two wheeled pride and joy...is this film, same bloody colour too if memory serves. Blue Triumph TT600...underrated gem of a bike, once you fix all the "quirks" they have.
They went Fast X in the first movie. That's why Dom was not superhuman until the last few F&F movies. You gotta ease into the insane.
I was in the fourth grade when this movie came out, awww the nostalgia.
This was still an enjoyable movie despite it being fairly low-grade. The only thing that really bugged me is the fact that Henry's bike was obviously belt driven, and they portrayed it as having a chain which he used to murder the guy.
The biggest problem with this movie and other bike movies. Is the sounds of the bikes were all wrong.
I loooved this movie back in the day an never understood why it didn't get a sequel
I read a recent tweet from the director that Village Roadshow was trying to make a TV series revival but the rights are tied up. Martin Henderson is still out there killing it so I'd love to see him return to the character.
I remember this Hilarious 🤣 comedy
This should have gotten a sequel or Six

that it was actually cool. Especially back then that tvs weren’t as clear so the visuals were kinda flat and it didn’t look cgi
I love this movie when I was a kid and still one of my fav!
Never heard of this movie but I did enjoy Biker Boyz and seemed a lot more realistic.
im from Brasil and i see this movie i don't remeber when but was a cool experience
I used to love that movie tbh and would been a good fast and furious super bike movie too.
thanks for remembering me, that i watched this movie lmao i miss those times

I was young when it came out, I liked it... and still do.
Also custom bikes, custom paint, stock pipes. Every motorcycle rider who modifies a street bike changes the pipe 1st.
I'd say biker boyz was more of a true fast n furious style movie, really a underrated movie
It was a good movie. I love everything about it. There is not much similarity between action sequences and cinematography of the movie with Fast and furious movies.
Torque was just ahead of its time
I saw it in 2004 when it originally came out in the theater. It wasn't bad.

Torque was super lit bro.. biker Boyz as well
I'm pretty sure this video the reason a downloaded torque to begin with... and it's definitely the reason I'm watching it right now 😂.
Dhoom movie started biking culture in India ❤, make a video on it
Definitely a member of the cult! I loved it still have the DVD somewhere 😂😂😂😂

I'm not really into bikes but enjoyed the movie
Just yesterday only i was speaking with about torque movie,, and all of sudden this video showed up in recommended videos.. Weird!!
Watched it when it released and liked it.
Torque is the best. I might watch it right now.
I thought this was going to be about Biker Boyz xD
still got my bootleg dvd I bought off ebay not long after it was released as wasnt available in my country.
Torque was a movie my dad was adamant about taking us kids to seeing to just warning to see it but having to haul all 7 of his kids to a theater 😂😂. He was def part of the target demographic so growing up
Man, I love this movie I loved it but when I saw it what really sealed the deal for me was the inclusion of Static X push it.
That song went so well with the bike duel scene. My favorite is "True Nature" by Jane's Addiction.
@@MediaPastimes yes that was another good one

I loved this and biker boyz and another car movie but instead of jdm and muscle like fast and furious it has super cars it was Redline
Motorcycles are kind of niche anyways. I mean how many motorcycles do you see for every conventional car?
You've convinced me, adding it to my watchlist!
Funny seeing as the thing that most motorcycles lack is torque
Let’s be real the final chase is what murdered this movie other than that it was dope
Hey I love that movie 😢
Well, actually is not so bad movie... until the last part (girls fighting with bikes and that final chase...)
i forgot about this movie
We all know “Wild Hogs” was the best biker movie to come from the 00’s.
Snubbed at the Oscars that year, truly.
The movie lost its respect when they shown a chopper way too faster than sports bike 😂
Funniest part of the movie. And unsurprisingly a scene enforced by the studio months after filming was done.
I completely forgot about this movie lmao
Re-upload. But i like it
Can it be as bad as Biker Boyz? A sad day for Laurence Fishburne was that :(
Biker Boyz took things way too seriously. I’m a big fan of Laurence Fishburne too.
I'll summarize it for you it failed because it was bad. It made Fast and the Furious look plausible
It didn’t fail to me.I enjoyed it even though it was corny. But it had some good quality’s
Ice cube should have been more of a star in the movie maybe would have been better as far as point of view of the culture.
