  • Bosch’s (Chameleon) GSR12V-300FCB22, DeWALTs (5-1 Extreme) DCD703F1 and Milwaukee’s (Installation Drill Driver) 2505-22 are given a workout in this video. We put these three drills on a job for a few months to see what all differences they had. That’s how you see if they are up to the task of everyday work.

    I have so many power tools and I always find myself going back to the Bosch 12v screwdrivers because they are light weight and I have more control with them due to the precision control with the trigger mechanism and also the overall size is so small I can fit that inside almost anything I am working on.
    I do residential and commercial HVAC for a living. If this little guy cannot remove something I will determine which impact to go get. I like these because unlike an impact driver it won’t damage the work surface or the fastener as easy

    For the Milwaukee, by far the biggest issue I have with the direction switch being a button on the top is that it's same button that's on the all of the M12 impactors. Somehow Milwaukee decided that it's a good idea to put the same button, in the same place, and with similar graffics on multiple tools in the M12 family, but with completely different functions. On the impactors it changes speed. On the installation driver it changes direction. I sometimes switch between the installation driver and the surge driver. Fortunately I only made the mistake once.

    • @campbellbuilt
      @campbellbuilt  Рік тому

      The switch was our biggest annoyance. I hadn’t noticed that about the switch and the other 12v tools. I’ll have to check that out compared to our other 12v Milwaukee tools.👍👍👍

    • @timh7156
      @timh7156 Рік тому +2

      That’s my only gripe too. I like to be able to feel the switch direction without having to look at the tool before starting fastener. Especially when reaching into a tight spot and the top of the drill isn’t visible. I hate when I starting a screw and it’s in reverse.

    I went for the bosch because of the batteries, it's really come in handy in the tight spaces we work in, I would've gone dewalt but the batteries for far too large, Milwaukee......well every store I went to had heaps of warranty returns behind the counter, that was enough to scare me off.
    We have abused our bosch 12v impact driver and drill, I mean doing shit they were not designed to do over the past 2 years and they're still going strong.

    • @campbellbuilt
      @campbellbuilt  Рік тому

      We’ve completely replaced our standard drills with these. Really surprised at how well their holding up and how much were using the attachments.

    @shane1034 2 роки тому +2

    I have the bosch brushless and m12 install driver. Bosch missed winning the gold and just totally running away from the competition for 2 simple issues. The light and weird backwards collet design. Just update the light, add a standard stick and click collet and maybe add a tad more power and that’s its. The twist lock tool design and pull out adapter rotation, the forward and reverse location and the locking bit collet on the offset are a big win for me. After you pointed out the slip lock design failure of the milwaukee and dewalt I like it even less now. And the adjustment of the 90 and offset I find to be cumbersome on the milwaukee and I’d imagine the dewalt as they are the same. I really like the form factor of the milwaukee though and the metal drill chuck.
    At the end of the day these are finishing tools more for finess than raw power.
    BTW just incase you and your son didn’t realize, when attaching a new tool onto the bosch just make sure the lock/unlock icon is always at the top (where the drive 1/2 selector is)and then turn the icon toward the silver paint indicator. I kind of wish the silver was red for unlock and green for lock but it’s minor.
    Great review!

      Good points Shane. I do know that we’re pushing the limits of what these tools were designed for. However, after using these tools for some time now I believe most individuals/contractors can eliminate their standard 12v and only run this. We hardly ever get our larger 20v drills out for jobs any longer because these little beasts get er done 😀

  • @kylefowler5082
    @kylefowler5082 Рік тому +3

    I have the m12 and thought it would be so useful, it ended up being a bit of a flop for me. Every once in a while it's awesome for one specific screw in a tight space however if I'm not in the mood to go get the specific head to drive one screw I can usually just use more extensions or a 1/4 hex drive right angle bit adapter and be better off anyway. The direction button SUX, major fail there lol. It's also the only tool that has bad ergonomics with an XC battery which is a shame because XC batteries really wake the tool up. That's not as a big deal anymore because of the new 2.5ah CP HO batteries but it was before then. Also the wrap around handle is a gimmick, they just wanted to be Festool "cool". (festool came out with this kind of tool first). Anyways the handle/stand doesn't do anything helpful better design couldn't fix. I still use it alot because dang it I own it but it's usually just on conduit reaming duty.
    If you think I'm just a hater take a look at the euro version of this tool the M12 FPDX. A better design in my opinion

It’s now my daily driver followed by my Milwaukee m12 Surge. It’s surprising to me how much torque the little thing has. The larger more powerful Dewalt 20v drill and impact driver stay in the truck most of the time until they are really needed.

  • @MoroccanAnwar

    ive had the milwaukee u have here and the previous one and i ended up getting the DeWalt because the milwaukee was so annoying with its stupid direction button positioning. the milwaukee is hard to balance when placing on a flat surface which pi$$e$ me off. the other Milwaukee accelerates very slowly . im a milwaukee guy but the DeWalt has more precision when you press the trigger the different torques are well spaced out unlike the milwaukee even in the lowest torque its too much power . the DeWalt is also lighter to carry. so my favourite is the DeWalt even though i was against them lol. It's pronounced "kuh-MEE-lee-un" like the lizard. I have the M12 and from another review I believe the DeWalt and Milwaukee both got closer to the edge with their offset heads, which is a big deal, and the Milwaukee had easily the best feather control. If you're beating them silly all day, that's probably not a big deal. I keep mine handy with the offset head attached, but it's not my daily driver because it's less powerful than the Surge by a good margin and lacks impact.

    Why would you choose the larger of the tools if the only clear benefit over a standard drill or driver is to get into difficult spots? I have a Bosch 12v "pocket driver" that's over a decade old because I needed a tool that could fit into a tight spot, and it's been my go-to for that reason since I got it. I have a different 18v platform for everything else. I'm looking at this multi-head version of that tried-and-true Bosch pocket driver to get into even tighter spots. It's an interesting data point that other, similar tools have more power or whatnot, but at the end of the day, size matters - and in this case, the smaller tool is simply better for what I'd use it for.

    Chameleon is a lizard that can change its color to match its background. The ch is pronounced like a k, kameleon.

      The last thing I want is a tool matching its back ground and then not being able to find it LOL. Appreciate the comment Rossi

      @@campbellbuilt, by the way, thank you for mentioning in your video how the heads pop off the DeWALT & MIlwaukee versions. I was going to buy the DeWALT and ended up taking advantage of a sale on the Bosch for this reason. No one else ever mentioned the ladder thing.

      @@bdm1000 The head popping off is a big deal to us and I think the reason other people aren’t mentioning it is their lack of on job experience with the tools.
      Appreciate the comment and enjoy the new drill.

    I wish they would just keep a few bucks and not give a bag that I have to throw away. I don't need a dozen DeWalt purses.

      I agree on the Milwaukee and Bosch bag however the Dewault bag is awesome. Having room for a couple of different bit boxes right with the tool.
