My two favorite sites.....JR and Brad/Kyle!
True
Great video. Helped quite a bit. I'm 64 and still stuck with my understanding of bowling with the rubber ball my dad taught me with in '69. By your method my ball now is 2.16. It works ok for me on the synth lane house near me but in my town the lanes are old REAL wood and they only oil once per week on league night. I go on weekends and the heads are totally scorcned and the ends are unpredictable (and that's being kind). Not sure what kind of ball I need to play those. I'm a firm believer in a general ball (I am low budget) and moving around to adapt. However, nothing seems to work on these lanes. It is a very early hook to the 7 pin no matter what I try. I will say my favorite way to play is first dot up the right side. On the fired real wood most times I have to revert to my old school straight ball delivery from '69 and that works, well at least it doesn't get sucked to the 7 pin. Thanks for any comments. Keep going J.R.!
Really appreciate the videos and kudos to you for supporting Brad and Kyle. Lots of room for great bowling content. Keep it up!
JR, I enjoyed the Gentlemen (Lou & Bob) at Turbo Tech before you. Tough act to follow, but I just wanted to let you know that personally, I feel you're crushing it. I'm the lefty that practiced next to you @ Thunderbowl days before WSOB started. You deliver a nice ball. Keep pushing brother, they'll fall. Good fortune to you in the future.
Thanks. Much easier way of looking at the strength of bowling balls. Love your videos
Jr this is a great video for just about any bowler. As a pso I would enjoy my bowlers at least having an understanding of this and narrowing things down even a little bit for themselves and picking something they like and think will roll well based on their numbers and being able to steer them in the right direction of which one to chose of 3 or 4 bowling balls. I get a lot of league bowlers that I ask what do you want this ball to do differently than that ball and they say "i dont know" and that gives me no direction as to what ball they would even care for, now granted I can probably get them something theyll enjoy and have fun with but it's great when the bowlers themselves have a brief understanding of why they want something new and how they want this new ball to react and read the ball before It gets into their hands so they have an idea
By your calculations, my Plastic Ball (Pyramid Pathogen Blue Dot) is at 209 on your scale [2.48 RG, 0.039 diff, 0.12 mass bias]. I've had the ball referred in the past as a "resin plastic" ball because of its strong turn and drive of the pocket. I am a rev dominant bowler, but age and injuries have dropped my ball speed down to 12 mph, so I have to throw an arsenal of plastic to keep the ball on the lane.
Good info. Simple and to the point.
what about the intermediate differential? thx
So. old wood lanes, slow ball speed and low revs a higher RG would be a good choice?
Thank you JR for explaining alittle bit about the numbers,i have 3 balls that are my absolute go to balls,gb2pp,mission unknown and forgive me cuz i won this ball and ebi didnt have the chaos yet,the idol,i had other asym. Stuff from storm and the hyroad that i didnt match up with and i went to ebi for stuff and had success, now maybe i can figure out why
It would be nice if all the techs had the same idea of what a strong ball is vs weak ball.
Good video and looking forward to the arsenal video
A low RG and a low DIFF = the longer the ball travels and less hook, like a plastic ball or house ball?
Boy cant wait for my lesson in April. Wow,!! Rg, differential, arsenal!!! My current ball is a dv8 pitbull, told the proshop i need a ball that hooks because ive got no revs or speed, thats what he sold me. The ball is ok but kept falling off my hand. A guy at work recommended a proshop for me, said the guy is the best. He plugged and redrilled the ball for " my style" my thumb wouldnt even go in the ball. WHAT!!! He took some material out and its worse than before. I slammed the first 3 balls at my feet and in the gutter. He put four pieces of tape in and said to practce. WTF!!!
Great video! So i have lower ball speed about 14mph and bowl two handed. So would i be better off with a pearl cover stock? Im thinking a solid or urethane cover stock would grip too early since i dont have the ball speed/power/strength to get it down lane before it hooks? thanks!
Right in my neck of the woods!
Great video!!
Can you do a video on pin placement?
Watch Mo Pinel he explains well
Mo is good and JR did a video on dual angle layouts that's got some good explanations of layouts.
I drilled a Storm code x 13 lbs, 2.63 Rg .039 Diff. It flared 6 inches and out hooked my lower Rg and higher diff balls by 5-10 boards. How do you explain that.
Differences in coverstock and how you had it drilled
@@McCollum2009 Yeah, seems oversimplified. I have a crux with 2.59 RG and .029 dif. So doing the math as showed (259-29=230.). This is my most hooking ball, or most reactive ball down lane. I did the math on my least hooking ball which is a Storm Tropical Breeze, designed to hook early & smooth, but the RG is 2.57 and the dif is .009. So if using the same math (257-9=248). If I use these two balls on the same lane conditions in league, I would swing my crux from middle arrow out to the 2nd arrow and back. If using the Trop Breeze, likely swing it out a few boards out to the 2nd arrow and back. So not sure I am following…..
What if there was like a point system for the different covers. Say the hyroad for instance since there’s like 5 different ones. And all have the same points So the hyroad nano gets a -25 ecause of the nano cover where day the og hyroad stays at 211 so the nano would be 186 N then say the hyroad x cuase it’s a polished solid gets a -15. So it would be 196 n so on. Of course these are just numbers I threw in there but you get what I’m saying. I hope
Doesnt rg or diff determine if a ball is a faster revving ball as well? Or is that just core size and shape?
RG is related to the amount of force required to change the rev rate.
The larger RG, the more force from friction is required to rev up the ball, resulting in the further down the lane the ball will go before reaching the roll phase.
RG also effects the rate at which the ball loses axis rotation (commonly referred to as losing energy).
Once the ball has lost all of it's axis of rotation, it no longer has the ability to change direction, so you want a ball that will retain axis of rotation until after the ball exits the oil pattern.
If that is too jumpy, you need to match up the loss of axis rotation to the distance where the ball is pointed towards the pocket.
Think of diff as windshield wipers. Instead of wiping, it moves the glass so what part of the glass you're looking thru stays free of rain.
In the case of the ball, oil is picked up on the bottom of the ball, diff makes the ball flare so what is considered the bottom of the ball keeps changing.
Hey nice shout out jr good sportsman ship. And yes Brad and Kyle page is awesome, subscribe.
So my balls RG is 2.54 with a diff of 0.048. With this count are we using decimals in the equation. Numbers should don’t have decimals.
i think u would only ad to the scene with any video u make. love ur thinking process more than brad and kyle.
Not very headphone friendly with the volume.
