She has passed away, Maggie Smith, you were like the Queen Elizabeth of English cinema. I wish you a safe journey to heaven, and thank you for everything 😢😢😢😢😢😢😭

Edit: RIP Dame Maggie Smith! Thankyou for everything! "Take me to Switzerland if anything starts going south and I can't remember your names." that is what she said once.
I'd like to think many people get to have theatric "final words" with loved ones and then peacefully give up the ghost but I really doubt more than one in a hundred is that fortunate.
So many people would give anything to go out the way she did: old, in her right mind, physically comfortable, surrounded by so much love, and speaking truth.
If you’re watching/commenting on this video on Friday, the 27th of September 2024 or beyond, we all know why! 🥺🥺🥺 Also, the music cues from this scene from the film’s soundtrack by John Lunn (“The Last Farewell” and “Cortege”) feel very appropriate to listen to on this day! Rest In Peace, Maggie Smith…and thank you!
Watching from Australia. England has not only lost a national treasure, a power house of an actress, a mother and grandmother, but a wonderful human being. RIP DAME MAGGIE.
This part made me cry ..because I really love Maggie Smith...in the part she plays in Downton Abbey as the Dowager countess of Grantham because she was a great part of the series 💙 thank God Maggie Smith is still with us....
I saw Dame Maggie doing an interview after the series ended (Graham Norton, I think). He asked if she would be interested in a movie or a reboot. Her response was something like “Oh God, no. She’d have to be at least 120.” 😂 You have to love her. I’m glad she returned for these two films. I heard her appearance in the second one was conditional on it being the “end.” Her character was one of the greatest of all time.
@@Robin-mf6lb well they did find actor to be Captain Kirk okayed by William shatner. Leonard nimoy was in movie with the actor who played young Spock. Let Maggie pick the actress to portray her. Maybe start with Maggie telling the story of her life. Before the family comes in the room. That way at the end when she says be quiet so I can hear myself die.
And the prequel could end with a young Violet being helped from a carriage - walking toward the door and turning to ask a young footman his name. “Charles. Charles Carson, milady…”
The scene where Isobel sits alone on the bench kills me every time. She and the Dowager Countess may have butt heads constantly, but they really were the best of friends.
They were literally how me and my best friend be in the nursing home happy at times together but always fighting😂 sad how she died but at the same time feels like it was meant to be she’s gone to join the others her granddaughter her grandson in law I guess if that’s how you put it a little better
That scene made me cry. None of the others did, not even when she actually died. But seeing Isobel alone where she and her dear friend had shared many laughs and barbs, made me feel such sadness for her.
OMG Edith & Mary have definitely come a long way in their relationship... comforting & hugging each other when their beloved Granny passes away. Also adorable how Elsie calls Carson 'Charlie" instead of Charles
Sometimes I think that's the way it should be. A little adversarial in the beginning, so that when the trials of life really start, they're always bringing you closer to each other and you find your love for each other is real.
@@rahaa.sh_307true. Sometimes to grow closer you need to spend some time apart. Remember also Mary and Edith spent basically their entire lives together before Edith got married and moved away. No wonder they were always sniping at each other!

@@Robert08010 I have heard testimonies of real life (and death)- someone pretty much "waiting" for the caregiver to leave the room for a moment; and when they returned from a quick errand - gone.

Oh this is a sad day for the world...truly the greatest actress in our generation who brought much joy and laughter to all of us....we will miss you tremendously Dame Maggie Smith and much love and prayers to her family
Her last words... "stop that noise, I can't hear myself die" were perfect. I cried because of the reality, one day soon beloved Maggie Smith will pass...
Although she wouldn't have wanted it, many of us wish there was some kind of public memorial service so there could be a gathering of us who loved her work and feel endeared to her. I particularly love her comment on the Graham Norton show on her doing Harry Potter which pleased her ever so slightly because she found she had a new fan base of particularly young people. Few actors can boast the range and depth of fans and their own skill as she can.
My mom and I saw this film in theaters with some friends, and during this scene, I whispered to my mom, "She's gone to join Matthew and Sybil," and my mom thought that was a very tender way to look at it.
I know that pain and i give you my most sincere condolences. I lost mine when i was about 17 and i still think of her now in my 30s. if it is any consolation the pain gets replaced by memories and soon thinking of her will be less hurtful and will make you smile and remember her fondly.

I love their relationship, how they really despised each other at first but grew to be best friends. That doesn't always happen--it takes two people who are simultaneously unapologetically true to themselves but also willing to grow and admit their faults.
Here after we lost our Dowager in real life too. I am so glad that the series was able to give her a fitting ending onscreen, and one that Dame Maggie was able to fully be a part of. She was so wise to advocate for writing her off when she did. Being able to fully say goodbye to a role is such a hugely important thing.
