I saw a "making of" interview in which Nicholas Briggs claimed he _held back_ in re-voicing these Daleks as they were not the post-Time War Daleks... _This_ is Briggs "holding back"?? They sound _more_ deranged than ever! _Love it!!_
The Daleks have to pretend to work with others and be a civilization instead of the facist murder space state they actually are. No wonder they sound deranged
I dont know the person in the black suit's name but, he was in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and he played the character who ran the candy shop.
@@FreeTheDonbas 70s Doctor Who was made on an incredibly low budget even for the time. What the special releases do is constrain themselves to what technology would have been available at the time but with an increased budget.
@@hejouxah1269 Except not, since Briggs is just doing his 2005 voice over a 1970s clip. That would be like using Microsoft Paint to replace some of the visual effects - it looks tacky AND it's jarring.
For some reason, when you watch Episode 1, the cliffhanger overlaps the shouting of the Daleks. Hopefully people will get what I mean. I’m so glad they got Nicholas Briggs to redo the Dalek voices, this sounds better.

This is loads better than the awful voices we got in the original transmission. They couldn't get any of the standard Dalek voice artists for this story. so they hired two guys who apparently didn't do their homework and so the Dalek voices sounded stilted and weird.
@@AubreySciFi Oh I know, the originals here were laughably bad. Still, I think I'd have preferred it if Nick Briggs tried to emulate classic voices akin to Planet of the Daleks, for example.
yeah... I know what you mean. It's too "Time War-ey", plus I always look at this episode's Dalek voices in a different light after hearing the late Peter Messaline's (one of the Dalek voices in this) work as a guest star on a little cult animated programme from Canada, I'm sure many people have heard of it... "The Raccoons". He was in an episode titled "The Great Escape" playing a magician... he also went under Pseudo as Peter Messalini, but his acting, oh his acting was amazing in that! He acted as if he was reciting Lawrence Olivier doing Richard III or Sir John Gielgud doing King Lear (the latter of which had Roger Delgado involved as the Duke of Cornwall), I had to do research to make sure I wasn't hallucinating on the credit, but the whole thing just blew my mind.
..and the original sounded shite, nothing like the 60s versions before them, big time gap you see between them and 1972 and a different crew, they kinda forgot to sound their voices right, Briggs does a good job.
This is one of my very favourite Dalek scenes. In Australia, the ABC would typically broadcast Dr Who every day, and so would often run out of episodes. In the 80's, they kept rebroadcasting all the Tom Baker serials over and over again, without showing any of the previous Doctors' episodes. When the Peter Davidson series came on in Australia, the ABC showed the entire first Davidson season, broadcasting every day, and so ran out of episodes in just over a month. It was a wonderful new look to Dr Who, and the ABC, right after it finished showing it, must have thought, "Rats, we now have to start showing repeats again. What episode can we start with that's really impactful, to make it less of a bummer for everyone?" Because the next episode they showed was this very episode of Day of the Daleks from the Pertwee era.

I have found an Australian ABC recording of Day Of The Daleks on an old Philips N1500 tape. It's ropey as hell, and the picture is missing for large tracts, but it was quite cool to find.
