    There’s so many ways to score off this if you actually slow down and use back screen and fake passes . A simple slip rescreen solves your problems

    I came up with this scheme during intramurals 2 years ago, and as an undersized team who would win 40-50% of our games in the past... we went all the way to the Finals and lost against a team with two former collegiate players by 4 points. It really is a great defense that forces offenses to panic trying to create

    How are you defending Spain action in this? 1:05
    With proper spacing pushing the wings down....Instead of the 5 popping to the right slot, rolling with the pg driving and short corner back screens the goalie

      @sg5ever Місяць тому

      @@bballbreakdown so then my question becomes how is x1 staying on the back of 1 and staying home for the pop... Seems as though you're giving the pg a free shot in the mid range which is possibly what you want but the playmaking in the middle of the court seems dangerous

      @@sg5everbrother, X5 is gonna be nerfing the drive, X4 is at the rim to nerf the roll, X1 peels off the ball and takes the shooter popping. And like Coach Nick points out, you cant even set a ball screen anyways when the on-ball defender is already behind lol.
      This defense is dope because it takes the offense out of their comfort zone. Think about the philosophy of a heavy full court pressure team; you want to speed the offense up and make the game chaotic. Even when you get beat, the offense oftentimes makes a mistake because they're not used to playing so rushed. Or they're so tentative that they become lesser athletes/players

    This is *EXACTLY* what Kobe Bryant was talking about when he finally got S. Curry on his hip. Curry; as well as the other point guards in the league, hate it when you are on their hip, AKA sides.
    Kobe gave Steph fits a lot doing this.
    However! Curry did better than all other point guards because of his super quick release on his 3pt shot.

  • @themidrange

    Wouldn't the ball screen be set on the x5 instead of x1? Then you have 2 players behind the ball. How do you defend that? It seems to be a gimmicky style defense like box and 1. Might work for 1 or 2 possessions at a time, but the time it takes to practice this and implement it most likely wouldn't justify the time that could be spent practicing other things. Happy to be wrong here.

    In previous breakdowns, you refer to people chasing the ball as being a bad thing. You call it being 'put in jail'. A good offense instead of the 5 overweight balding white men shown in the video would exploit this. Could you imagine the playmaking Luka could do with the defender always behind him, basically playing 5 on 4? Or Jalen Brunson drawing fouls on every single possession as he jumps back into the chaser?

      I think the difference coming down to zone vs man to man. With man to man defense like the common nba play, there is no number 5 helping, esentailly putting the defener in jail with no help for contesting. His play have the key player 5, which is there to prevent drives and contest shot. The aim is to force contested mid range, considering how the games has change to almost like 3 point shootout contest.
      Star players like Luka, would proabably shine with such plays, heck probably playground for Dirk Nowitzki's mid range fadeaway. 😂
      He's teaching college but, not NBA.

    • @jackson5290
      @jackson5290 23 дні тому

      Almost any zone is prone to giving up offensive rebounds because most zones don't match up. So it's hard to boxout bodies.
      A matchup zone solves this, but a matchup zone is just man-man that switches everything. So is it really a zone? 😉

    This system also requires an athletic enough "goalie" that can occupy the middle and stop a shifty guard who now gets a full head of steam.
    This is a gimmick defense that youre selling as a modernized structural approach to people who dont know the difference. Any coach/team that understands space/ball-movement beats this. This doesnt work in the NBA where you get defensive 3 in the key. This doesn't work against teams that run high low. This doesn't work against teams that know how to "x" in their zone offense. This is a gimmicky 1-3-1 that will win you a lot of games at low/young levels but also teaches horrible basketball principles.
    Teaching kids its okay to get beat, just play behind?? Are we serious? At least teach them to x out when they get beat.
    Any system that potentially requires 2 guarding 1 is flawed and exploitable. It will work at times, maybe stall for a couple possessions and disrupt rhythm. But this is not the revolutionary modernized defensive approach youre selling it to be.
    Using Mattise as a selling point when hes a world class athelte with a "+" wingspan is absolutely misleading to a normal basketball player.
    I get that youre proud of your creation, but youre scamming people who dont know better and you are encouraging people (probably a lot of young people) to adopt a system that will actually just give them BAD HABITS that dont translate to higher level basketball... If you grow up playing in this system (because it would 100% work at youth levels including highschool) your odds of being recruited are decimated because no college coach wants to teach you how to actually play real defense.
