Same here. Im a strong guard but on defense i try notnto touch them so it won't call as a foul. After watching this video i wanna be a dog on the court.
I love you dude, with your help,my son is starting varsity as a freshman in arizona, this video is perfect for us because we wanna hang our hat on defense, thanks family
Good video. Stamina and fitness is underrated too. Its tough to play lockdown D guarding their best player and also getting all the buckets for your team
That's why most of the time if I see a scoring threat on the opponent team, I'll save stamina to lockdown on him while assisting my team to score, doesn't necessarily mean that I haveto score myself
As a wrestler first and a basketball player second. This video is great! Not crossing your feet, and being able to shuffle and slide, having very active hands, taking and giving contact, and cutting/pushing through screens, and having the iq to switch vs stay on screens, and knowing zone defense, and when to step-up, being able to change levels and speeds to keep up with your defender, not falling for fakes, will help with defense greatly, get you steals, and lock down defenders! It can be the difference between winning and losing.
I wanna show this to my friends so they can realize that defense can be played physically and not every touch is a foul, but I don't wanna reveal some of the secrets that I just learned in this video🤣🤣 Thank you so much
I almost never comment but I have to say I love this video. Perfect for visualizing defense fundamentals. I put what I learned to work in one-on-one against my buddy today and it totally upped my game. This channel is amazing. Thanks for all the work breaking it down for us!! 🙌👏
James harden actually playing good defense and being used as an example for it is like seeing a bear standing upright trying to order turkey at the grocery store.
Thanks for this video. My son is 12 and plays super tight/aggressive D. He take away dominant hand and uses the hand on the hip technique from that Kobe video and destroys people. BUT......... at any given tournament a bad ref ruins our day b/c they will call almost any contact on ball handler a foul. We LOVE your videos... keep it up. CHEERS!!!!
Hand checking is a foul, 90% of stuff in this video is a foul. Any contact with ball handler with hands is a foul. James Harden got MVP cuz he abused defenders.
Best video on defense by far. Most vids will say watch the hips, slide the feet, turn when you need to, good luck. I play solid defense but breaking it down for my students is a challenge sometimes because some aren’t as understanding of the game as others
Excellent video! I started playing at 18 and defense was about the only thing I was really good at. Is amazing all the things I did naturally in this video. But now I’m 38, slower, don’t play as much and need breakdowns like this to remember all the techniques to use against younger, faster players. Currently working on building up foot speed and mobility to be more effective on the court 😀
This video on "How To Guard Anyone (Lockdown Defensive Tips)" is an absolute defensive gem! The detailed breakdown of defensive strategies and techniques is incredibly helpful for basketball players looking to improve their skills on the court. The emphasis on footwork, positioning, and reading your opponent is spot on. The practical tips provided here make it clear that becoming a lockdown defender is not just about physical attributes but also about understanding the game and anticipating your opponent's moves. Kudos to the creator for sharing valuable insights that can elevate anyone's defensive game. Time to hit the court and put these tips into action! 🏀
There's nothing better than real time examples of how fundamentals work. I love seeing footage of so many different pros at different levels, in different eras, in different countries, using the same strategies. Great work.
Love the video, great work! Never give em an inch, fight them for EVERYTHING! I would like to add what my coach always told me: They can’t score if they don’t have the ball. So Stick to your man like shit does to a shoe when you’re off ball defending and not on help.

Just got across this video and I've been watching it for over 11min, I just wanna say thank you, it's been really good for my defensive play style, vielen Dank 🍻🏀
Man i just love this video. I really love defending more than anything in basketball. And it's true, it is all about heart and effort 💪🏻👍🏻 Keep up the good work fellow defenders 👍🏻
There was some tricks you mentioned that I dont really use, like biting into hesi's and jabs. Im a SF and this helped me so much for my D, and to be a good lockdown defender (aswell as knowing the defending tricks so I can use it against the opposition when im driving to the basket) Thanks Coach💓💓
Appreciate it. Transition finishes are pretty much these (swing step is the best) : ua-cam.com/video/IMJO3IMvBl8/v-deo.html But I'm going to make a fastbreak video soon.
To avoid biting on fakes, watch the dribblers waist / belly button, not their eyes or the ball. You can head fake, shoulder fake, ball fake, etc, but you can’t waist fake because that’s your center of gravity. Wherever your waist goes, you go. Great video!
no its not. Almost every great defender does this. You just have to learn to release the handcheck whenever the player goes to swipe, as long as your hand remains on top, they wont be able to swipe back. They could perhaps swipe up, but outside the nba (james harden) thats pretty uncommon to see and it wont lead to a blowby
@@vinuzo9548 as soon as the hand touches the body, it's a swipe right away and a move toward the basket. They already teach that to kids in Europe and pros in Europe use it. NBA guys are the best at it
@@11Andruxa which is why, as Kobe was saying, you place the hand on top of the players arm. Then they will have to bring the arm back and around your hand before they can swipe down, which is enough time for you to release
@@11Andruxa The swipe is definitely a good weapon to have. But it's not an auto blowby against good defenders. Watch at 4:32 how Jrue Holiday plays defense against the swipe. Stays on balance and forces the offense into a really tough finish.
Great video, thank you, defensive tactics in basketball are underserved. They are also great for new players getting into the game to build confidence as they develop offense.
Tip that I learned when guarding taller players: use a hand on them to keep them away from you when they try to post up because it will force them to fade or go away from the basket you probably think keeping them close is a good idea but it’s not because then they can just use their hieght to post you or drive
This was so informative as always!! for me when i am the defender i always think that i will make a foul when i use my hands to make contact can you make a video on how not to foul or different kinds of foul that would be a problem solver
Interesting ! Theoretically every "touch counter", "bump", "grab" is a foul but, like you say, for an active and good defense, you need to get physical and hope the ref forget to whistle. IMO the perfect def is a collective one because the rules are always favorable to the attacker. Once you get passed, your mate need to help
This is really well made . I would just say that the super wide defensive stance is falling out of favor for a stance that's just a bit wider than the shoulders. Ps: Can you do one about rebounds? I feel this is key and offer forgotten
dude this video helped me so much cause i am shorter than everyone im like 4,9 and im 14 i went from a playmaker to a defensive demi-god now when we play pick up im always the one getting picked first over some taller kids.Thank you so much again :)
Can't forget John Stockton with those steals >--> Also appreciate the video it really helped to realize that there so much more I need/can do and work on I mean I never even thought stealing a crossover was possible. Appreciate the video ans keep up the good content. 💯
i came here for a jordan masterclass because of the thumbnail but its even better!!! i mean jordan is the goat, but there are just things about his game only he could do LOL
I was already using some of these moves while playing basketball like force turn overs, being a pest, something's trying to get the ball, sometimes pressuring and sometimes being physical and so on it's good I already know some of these
Last year i was a defensive menace. Averaged around 2 steals a game and i had that dog mentality. The past year however i feel as if i have become soft and i gotta get that shit back.
