Released in 2004, Battlefield Vietnam is one of the most influential Battlefield games in the series. However, the game had a short lifespan between its release and Battlefield 2, making it fall into obscurity.
Gravity was a competitive Battlefield player in Battlefield 1942 who also played Vietnam competitively, and saw the game's rise and fall. This video is my perspective of the history of a great battlefield game, as only I can bring you.

Tbh,I enjoyed this community over BF4/BF3's childish community.
I am also proud to be part of this community,and will give my best to support it. The game is may be the most unique of the whole BF franchise and I would like to see more players return back to play it.

I loved Battlefield Vietnam. It was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. I wish games were more historical and epic again
I play Vietnam because of a mod called "Battlefield Balkan 1991-1995" where you fight in the Bosnian and Croatian war. Hello clan held a event in the mod like 2 weeks ago and it was packed. It was really fun playing as a member of ARBIH "since i originate from Bosnia" in Sarajevo with AT kit against tanks and cannons which the Yugoslav side had. It is a goated mod, you should download it😃
One of the most important things in the world is the preservation of the memory, it's very good to see a video like this about Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 1942. Nice work in this video.
A very minor correction: the TTK is extremely low due to the weapon damage by itself being ridiculously high (the M16 can two shot kill across the map and the insanely high bullet velocity as well... even I was surprised by that when I added the stats for BFVietnam weapons on the wiki); BF1942 and nam have the same infantry health at 30 HP and a weapon like the M16 firing at 720 RPM doing 15 damage is gonna feel like an instant kill if those shots connect compared to the 4 shot 600 RPM Thompson.
If you were to put the best gun in 1942 vs nam... that Vietnam gun on its worst day will succeed almost everytime.

Holy shit, you captured my memories of this era perfectly! I played this game religiously as a teen. The gun-feel, the mood, the gatekeeping/smugness from the 42-community.. And the absolutely ridiclous broken mechanics on the start. A toptier heli pilot or infantry duo/trio could absolutely dominate a server. As broken as it was, I loved every minute of it. Anyways, thx for bringing a smile to my face. Have my like and sub.

Honestly they should release a Classic BF Hub thing, with a couple of servers online for each game. It wouldn't hurt the sales of their new titles, but it will makes old fans happy and maybe some new people will discover the game :). I'm gonna link this video in my next BF Vietnam video, cheers!

Thats so true but there memories most start at bf4, People who scream bf4 is the Best never played bf2 or 1942, Vietnam. For me the Best is 2 and bc2 also 3. but 1942& Vietnam was my childhood and always in my heart. All this awesome content ❤
I love this game. Played the hell out of it as a kid vs AI on Operation Flaming Dart and Irving. Didn't know about patching so I never played it online before the BC2 expansion and discovering the Hello clan server. It's given me some great times over the last 20 years!
The Desert Combat mod for 1942 was my Jam for the longest time.
Back in the day I put countless hours into 1942, Vietnam and BF2. Even with 1942 and BF2 being my most played (and yes the people from both camps who liked to shit on it, lol), I have to say Vietnam was my favourite. It starts off strong with that goddamn ambiance, the gorgeous 70s soundtrack while you roam around causing havoc. This was only enhanced by the gameplay, with the blazing fast TTK, the wild and often incoherent vehicular dynamics, the deliberate and genius differences between teams. This all gave the game a unique identity which no other game can match. Like 1942, the vehicle to infantry balance was spot on in a way that modern games can't manage. And the maps were absolute fire, urban environments that weren't littered with bogey holes, rural maps that were easily traversed by any mode. The lack of uncaps and smaller size meant your team could be threatened by extinction at any moment, not to mention the assault maps which start off totally imbalanced. This game was the peak of deliberately creating disadvantages that required strategy to overcome, nowadays that concept seems to have been erased from the series.
The Official WW2 Mod from EA for BFVietnam was freaking awesome too.

My dad created a server, =ECC=, or East Coast Choppers. His name was RedEyedJack, and he played with a guy named Venom, Hughe$, and some others I can’t recall off hand at the moment. But it was such a fun time playing with them. Operation Hastings was mine and my dad’s favorite map to play on lol. I recently found a website where you can install it and play it, so I’ve been getting back into it the last couple days. Love BFV

Forgotten? Nobody that ever played this game has forgotten the moment they were in a tank or chopper and first turned on some music like Credence Clearwater Revival to blast at the enemy.

I loved the OG Vietnam so much, I was 12 and allowed to play 16plus games so battlefield was my first choice. A shame they killed the series, would rather see battlefield thrive than CoD but EA Is even more Stupid than Activision…
I remember this fondly. Making other players listen to fortunate son while you drive them around is something that can't be done in modern games.

I still have this game to this day but I can’t download it onto my laptop along with battlefield 1942 I played this as a kid on my family’s old windows xp computer

Battlefield Vietnam was my introduction to the BF franchise,BF2142 and BF2 are 2nd and 3rd best game for me after BF Vietnam

What a amazing video of my all time favourite Battlefield ❤ Back in 2006/07 there was a Flaming Dart server which replaced all NVA planes and choppers with tanks and the ARVN had only one F4, one chinook and two transport hues as air power. This was by faaar the best balanced game I ever played. There were dedicated transport pilots on this server! Just for fun, no xp, no progression just fun

Battlefield Vietnam was my first battlefield game even though I got it before Battlefield 3 came out but to me I always hated the Jet controls because I always ended up crashing or couldn't help my teammates on the ground.
this was my favorite battlefield game, of all time. I had the big box set of like 10 CDs for BfV and Bf1942. back when the abbreviation 'BFV' didn't make everyone cringe.

This was the first multiplayer game I bought and played. It was fun. It had some features that made it uninque and has not seen the light of day in any other game that I know of.

As you mentioned. As new games come out, there are always those who compare (I guess most do) and choose to loo at what "was better" in earlier games.
To get that competitive game flow that makes a game "accessible" and smooth to play for many years, seems to be a challenge for this genre.
This is where I find that BF2 really stuck out, even up until today. That is why some hang on and stil play.

Love to see talk about this game. One of the first (if not _the_ first) games I ever played. Definitely has some scuffed balance with the playercounts you usually get today but when you've got a near-full server I feel like it all comes together great, like a well-balanced meal.

Battlefield: Vietnam was great. But I could not get players to spot targets for artillery and mortars. Players would always try to get head shots and mob the helipad to fly when they couldn't.
I'm very surprised to hear how some BF42 players hated on Vietnam. I loved both games and I thought they're both great, never heard Vietnam got so much criticism from so many '42 fans.
The vehicle booby trap came back once, for Hardline. That's a game people are content forgetting about.

I loved BF vietnam, i didn't have access to the internet back then and only played against bots but i played it a shit ton, just like 1942 ( i also had 2142 but the family's pc couldn't run it sadly )

Great video about BFV! BFV is very good but the animation glitch while firing in widescreen is really annoying, especially in some mods with ironsight like POE.
Though Battlefield Vietnam weren’t as great as 1942, as it never received many mods, heck no one made mods to Vietnam. Compared to 1942 which got Forgotten Hope, Battlegroup42 and even its own Vietnam mod called Eve of Destruction. Still Battlefield Vietnam felt like a Battlefield game. Even Battlefield 2 which I personally consider the last real Battlefield as 3 and up felt more like a Call of Duty copy.

I played this at it peak until bf2 cane and its to this day one of my most cherished games. I wish there could be a remaster of this game, the new bf games are all good in their own rights but they are to complicated now, bfv and bf1942 was alot simpler and i kinda miss that

Let's admit it, it's just bf42 with some graphical improvement in its engine, a creative hud but less useful and intuitive than that of bf42, and some not so well implemented features that do not improve and even worsen the gameplay compared to bf42. I prefer bf42, but I have to say that if it weren't for the bfv community, I wouldn't have found a solution to a critical bf42 problem that didn't let me play for years; I feel guilty because I don't like bfV as much as bf42...

I ruled with the MAT49 and mortar. I setup mortar on a sloped hill and hit tanks.
I lost interest after BF2. I could not get into it.
