- They make it look and sound so easy, which is one of the marks of great art -- what Castiglione called "sprezzatura," or an inspired nonchalance. Or, bcause it's from the Louis book, it translates as "hot cosmology." An extraordinarily lovely interlude by the EarRegulars plus guests, performed for all and sundry (did the passers-by feel the love as they trotted by?) on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at "The Ear Out," in front of The Ear Inn, 326 Spring Street, Soho, New York City. The creators -- bless them in long meter -- are Jon-Erik Kellso, trumpet; John Allred, trombone; James Chirillo, guitar; with Rafael Castillo-Halvorssen, trumpet; Shaye Cohn, cornet, Josh Dunn, guitar; Jen Hodge, string bass. And their facial expressions will tell you their communal pleasure in the music they made float on the air. Recorded by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.w...) with immense gratitude.
Great to see Bassist Jen Hodge. She’s Vancouver bassist who seems to be taking the world by storm.
Very clever . Superb musicians all of you.
Also want to give a shout-out to Shaye Cohen for her original sound and style! And to all of the great musicians in this talented group!
The smile on Jen’s face throughout the whole song…
Okay, this is brilliant all around -- top notch from everyone -- but Chirillo has got to be *the* master of smooth genius understatement.
And some people passing by...without paying attention to this performance...incredible!
I love that "This is so great" smile that Shaye gets ...Mikie
The bass player's warm smile, and obvious enjoyment put a great big smile on my face this morning!
The guy in the back really projecting on the archtop! Nice
Shaye , as usual, shining through, a real natural
Quelle belle ambiance! Magnifiques soli en succession dans la joie! Je ne peux m'empêcher d'applaudir aux duos croisés de John Afred et Shaye, aux inventions de J-E Kellso et james Chirillo. Bravo! bravo! Bravo!
Such a good vibes and a beautiful music.
Wonderful musicians having a great time playing together! Thank you so much for the excellent recording.
Brilliant post.
Thank you for sharing.
This is my favourite rendition of this number with Shaye. Great improvisation. Never seen Shaye looking so happy and relaxed as when she is in her natural environment, hanging out in front of a jazz cafe with an eclectic bunch of talented musicians, jamming and improvising, not having to conduct a band, just playing her part. Just wow! What a talent! (Although she's also amazing when she plays with Tuba Skinny).
Another fantastic presentation, felt like I was there in person. Awesome!
Wonderful playing, guys! Big Kelso fan. Have had the pleasure of hearing him play live with The Louis Armstrong band in NYC, dating back many years. And with the great Vince Giordano & His Night Hawks at different venues in NYC, over the years. Also love this ensemble the have the talent and the love of this great, original American music of ours. Keep up the excellent work, guys!
The guitar guys are both great, and I love that perpetual smile on the ,and terific bass solo!
What's not to like about this: they really listen, react to and communicate with each other, wonderful!
What a great song and what a talented group of musicians. Wouldn't it be great to live down the block from a place like the Ear Inn?
Bravo !!! Thank you ...
Wow, really top-notch playing. Hope to hear any of them live someday. The best!
So wonderful to hear live music again, amazing musicians, I'm biased still like drums to add that little hole.
great music
Increíble, saludos desde España. Gracias por compartir, me ayuda muchoa concentrarme en mi trabajo.
Incredible, greetings from Spain. Thanks for sharing, it helps me a lot to focus on my work.
You Cats are sending solid, but could use a reed in there somewhere. Trombone player is phenomenal. Shaye is one of my inspirations.
Alegria e talento nas ruas.....👏👏👏👏💥🇧🇷
Oh snap that's John Allred on trombone. That guy is amazing
Well done..face and style familiar but couldn't place in surroundings.
Lovely to see Shaye performing with a different group of very talented musicians. She is obviously enjoying the experience without having to lead TS.
I love you !!!!!!!! good !!!!
I'd love to hear more of that trombone player.
I've posted many performances by John Allred and his father Bill, so your wish can be gratified!
As beautiful as always my shaye
Superb!!!
SHAYEEEEEE !!!!!!
I hear this and all I can say is "Swing you cats!"
I always wondered how horn people can find the right note in something like the breaks where they have to hit different notes. Hats off to horn players. p.s. love that note at 1:28. p.p.s. 5:17 what an amiable bunch!
Joyous!
Sensational❤️👍
Tuba SKinny "leader" and founding member Shaye Cohn holding her own, playin' s solo in Soho. You can see poetry is NOT my "Forte." These guys and gals are all top notch and their only foolin' around..
Yeah Chirillo!
I love the masks
❤🎺🎶🌐
Afternoon of the cookers!
Who is the gentleman playing on that old Conn trumpet?
Personnel is given in the description . . . Jon-Erik Kellso, as identified.
Or if you are speaking of the young man sitting in front of the band, that is Rafael Castillo-Halvorssen.
@@swingyoucats thanks, very impressive!
@@swingyoucats had not heard of him before, who does he play for? where's he from?
A swinging affair
The trumpet guy seems to be the boss, but he lets Shaye give orders.
😅
Still some work but nice
What does that mean? "Still some work . . . "?
Playfullmess can go higher i my view its nice but i miss a little on that particular part of the music (i would suggest to play more in the now of the music), if i may say.
