I'm looking at the Chevy, Toy, and the Nissan, and the Nissan is winning. The value is there, it looks good, and has an amount of "truck features" I think are applicable to 90% of buyers. I really wanted a Tacoma, but their price point is bullshit.

I prefer a simple stance truck and let the consumer decide on their preference on when and how they want their truck lifted or not. These on the lot lifted trucks can run up to 10k+ extra depending on the features. I rather buy the entry version of the Pro 4x and I can review and buy the lift, tires, wheels that I like and fits into my budget.

You keep saying "ancient" and "old" like it is a bad thing. New doesn't always mean better. The frame is carried over, but has been modified. It has no fancy gimmicks and has enough tech to keep it modern. If feels and drives like a truck. Nissan never made this to be THE best midsize truck, but wanted a truck that could do everything competently and, it does exactly that. I felt your review overall was good, especially showcasing the off road capabilities.

    • @GTGarageTalk

There is some fun charm to this truck that is missing in its modern counterparts.

    • @DrSinisster

I think since it competes with others with better Tech those points are Valid. Sure buying a simple proven vehicle with texh that is closer to a 2013 then a 2023 is a point to be made. I persoanlly hated the Nissan. It looked like a Teenagers dream Truck, had outdated tech, seemed like a light truck not a Mid-Size. Was really small IMO, and it lasting longer than I will own it doesn’t matter to me. Which is why we differ on opinion no doubt on that. Time will tell I may eat crow one day 👍

I was a die hard Toyota loyalist. I can’t stand the new turbos that are outrageously expensive just to save 1-2mpgs and are very complex and won’t last for the long haul. I switched and bought a 24 Frontier fully loaded Pro4X and I absolutely love it. Simple, not over the top tech that further jacks up the cost, and it’s just awesome

Looking at getting a midsize very soon, down to 3 this in boulder grey, Colorado zr2 and the 24 Tacoma , this is where I broke it down, best looking is the zr2 by far (imo) but the tech (everything in the screen and no buttons) huge down side, turbo 4 huge down side, and transmission huge down side . The Tacoma , over priced and transmission problems , this is honestly the best bang for the buck , it’s fairly simple , it’s reliable , and it can be affordable. I’m going to Nissan today.

I have those same tires on my Z71 Tahoe & they're a great compromise. Great on road with essentially no more road noise than a highway tire. Off-Road they are great unless you get into deep mud, no A/T is great in deep mud... But a Mud Terrain tire is so compromised on-road that it becomes hard to justify for a daily.

I'm now in the market for a vehicle with more utility and have put the Frontier on my consideration list. I'm attracted to its straightforward design and proven mechanicals. I've been around "all-new" vehicles my entire life and can say all-new is not always a good thing. If something works great, leave it alone. Based on the high number of views of this video, your audience is probably thinking the same thing.

The Nissan Frontier isn't that "ancient." It was redesigned for what, the 2021 model year? 2022? Yeah it's got a naturally aspirated V6 but it's got a modern transmission and decent tech. It's not a 4Runner for sure. As far as which truck is best off road, they all have similar ground clearance, approach, departure and break over angles. The Frontier is, however, the cheapest mid sized on the market without itself being cheap (I'm of the mind the new Taco is way overpriced). I'd take a Frontier over a Taco any day

I like this Frontier and I never plan on going off-roading, maybe mild at most but I want a mid-size truck to pull a boat on steep, slippery boat ramps. I don't need high wheel travel or max distance clearance. I was actually thinking of a street truck but they are boring looking and maybe with this Frontier I might get off-road but never at an extreme level. So this truck at the top of my list, with the Tacoma, but they are hard to find and now there is a HUGE recall, and I saw a 1 month old 2024 Tacoma TRD break the front diff in a video, so the Tacoma's were already backlogged, this recall may make it harder to find.

not a bad truck but considering the Canyon At4 or At4x has front & rear lockers, higher suspension, multi-terrain modes, under body cameras, and larger tires, more torque, I would get the AT4x any day. The Nissan is nice but seems like a normal mid-size pickup truck.. nothing special about it.. Looks more like a regular work truck. but at that price point, it makes sense for those looking for a decent pickup truck that can last for years without doing anything special. I just did a configuration build for a Frontier with all the bells and whistles, including leather and tech pkg. It came out to $52k. For $54k I can get a fully equipped Canyon AT4X that has more bells and whistles and looks amazing just standing still. Thanks for sharing.

At least you don't run the risk of spooling the turbo with zero boost, less chance of overheating the oil (turbo) as well as the fact that turbos put a lot of stress on an engine! Also, cheaper maintenance and much longer life. Tiny 4cyl with turbos on big trucks as well as V6 engines with twin turbos for massive full size engines...shorter life, ask a new Tundra owner if they love little engines turbo charged for full and mid-size trucks. More buttons, less touch screen would seem to be better choice, especially off roading, didn't GMC remove the manual headlight switch on the 2023 Canyon and put it into a touch screen? wth!
I think Nissan tried to keep the price down, making it somewhat more affordable for the buyers that don't always go off road but wanted a mid-size off road capable truck. Seems like there are lots of after market accessories available such as lift kits or get a lift added from dealer if you need a bit more clearance.

Objectively speaking the 3rd gen Frontier is built off the bones of the 2nd Gen Frontier dating back to 2005. For the sake of simplicity, it's pretty much a 2005 Frontier with a new body and interior. Even the 3.8 and 9 speed carried over from the 2nd Gen.

I have a 2022 SV 4x4 crew cab. 40,000 trouble free miles. The 9 speed is one of the things I've liked most about my truck. It always finds the right gear to be in. Nissan cvts have proven troublesome in past years, and people have a hard time letting that go, but this 9 speed is fantastic. An awesome truck for those that want a real truck.

They got everything right EXCEPT not offering a long bed version or King cab at the Pro4X level. It's a mid-sized pickup. If I needed a Tow/haul vehicle I would go to a full size truck. The SV trim level offers those configuration which are ideal for most practical users of a pickup ( those needing a tool and not a mobile internet cafe/mobile home entertainment center/staus symbol). This is just a hit piece

Reliability takes more time than we are allowed with one week of time in a vehicle. Some brands do loan vehicles for longer, but without buying one ourselves and testing it for at least a year, that is all we can provide. I would recommend sites like carcomplaints.com for reliability issues.

Can’t knock that trying to climb that incline in 4H with those garbage tires in loose gravel/soil. SMH 🤦🏼‍♂ It’s a decent truck at the price point if you’re not looking for something with a serious level of off road capability, but it has nothing on the Colorado or Canyon even the Elevation trim Canyon with the G80 has so much more real applicable capability than what you highlighted on paper stats. What the Nissan really has going for it is Nissans current situation with highly overstocked vehicles they’re offering very good deals when pushed.

Your going to take a brand new truck on the road more than off road. So would rather have a truck built for comfort on road vs off road ability. Dirt roads and gravel don't count and that's what most people count as off road. I think of off road as there isn't a road at all and wouldn't do that in a new truck.
