      @@AwesomesMan This is a True tested and proven V-6 that Nissan has been making over 25 yrs. This is not a CVT. Nissan Frontiers have been known to go over 500 thousand and up to a Million miles with this V-6 Transmission, if maintained properly.👍

    Even to my own surprise, I pulled the trigger yesterday on a 2023 Pro4x Premium in glacier white. It's fully loaded with MSRP of $48,300 but I got $3300 off. $45k is still absurd for a midsize truck, in my opinion, but after test driving the Pro4x a couple times, I fell in love with it. I was planning to wait for the Tacoma, but I know it will be to expensive. I love the Pro4x's hydraulic steering, smooth compliant ride, super comfortable seats, just the right amount of tech, etc. Not the greatest payload, but it's got enough for my needs. The Pro4x is a nice balance between old school 'truckness' and modern technology. Love it!

      I just looked at a Glacier White Pro 4X and agree with everything you said. It feels like a truck with modern features. $54k CAD...just the times we live in

      I went with a '23 P4X after considering all options. Waited till the end of the year when dealerships started getting their '24 inventory. Got a '23 model with 5K off the MSRP. I love everything about it in addition to the way it steers. Stays on the road effortlessly and in tight parking lots, I just use those cameras and mirrors so no problem there. It just feels like a beefy, tanky little truck that will last a long time.

      Same her bro. I got my super black '23 pro4x for 47k. I wish it had more features. I didn't spec it out. This one was just from the lot at the dealer. No sunroof, 360 cam, bedliner, heated seats or steering wheel. Despite all that, solid truck.

    Very thorough video, great job. As a biased 2022 Frontier owner, I'm glad that its V6 and no-frills features are appreciated. It really is great to drive and has treated me well for 35k miles. While I do like the look of all the redesigned midsize trucks, I just can't justify spending $10k+ more for a turbo 4 and digital everything.

      I've got a 2022 pro4x frontier. Was a ram 1500 owner before that (had 07, '16, and '19 model years) and I have ZERO regrets about switching to the pro4x. Great truck. I've only put on 17000kms on it but also been doing alot of 4x4ing in it. It is a really capable vehicle, has not let me down. It is still stock, do plan on getting a z1 lift... but it's amazing what that truck will do and where it will go (I sometimes air down to 15-20psi depending on terrain)

      I like the fact that the Frontier is smaller. Bigger isn't better for a mid-sized truck. The only way its able to beat the Canyon on HWY mpg's is more than likely less frontal area. By the way the Chevy Colorado is more comparable.

      I've got a brother in law with the zr2. The wider stance as opposed to my pro4x actually hinders him in several situations in the trails we often go to. Also, there isn't anywhere he's been with his "more capable" Colorado that I haven't been able to easily take my frontier... may be a case of driver capability but still, the small differences in the vehicles aren't that extreme. From the hills to the muskeg we've taken both, both are evenly capable in the vast majority of situations.
      He's pulled me out of some situations... but I've pulled him out of several also

      I live in Wyoming and often drive at elevation in the mountains. I sold my 2014 Taco and got a Ranger. I am now a believer in turbos. It is so much better driving at altitude. My NA Taco would turn to sludge the higher I got. I am at 40K miles zero issues. I am never going back to NA engines. I like Nissan and I get it, but where I live and do the majority of my driving I was actually shocked at how much better it is. New Taco will be. turbo so I will check it out.

      The Frontier's 3.8 V6 no longer has port fuel injection, it's direct injection only, which means carbon buildup will be a problem in the long run if you don't take steps to mitigate it. You have to be on top of that starting now if you want to avoid problems later. If I wind up getting a Pro4x, installing an oil catch can will be the 1st thing I do.

    I'm on my fifth Frontier with my 2023 Pro4X. I've never had an issue with any one of them. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the GMC but it was cheaper and i think more dependable.

      Much more. The new generation Colorado and Canyon have been having a lot of issues. A lot of them being software and computer hardware.

    Nissan frontier is the way to go.
    I’d say the canyon is for retired more matured men that want luxury comfort. The infotainment on the canyon is too over the top which will on the long run go out in style. The frontier’s interior is timeless like most Japanese branded vehicles and that’s great. It’s a no brainer Nissan frontier has broader options in styles which can fit anyone’s price point or comfort whereas the canyon is limited. NISSAN FRONTIeR WINS 🏆

    As a 54 year old male, money not an issue, it’s the Nissan for me….hands down.
    I’m still enjoying my 2001 First Gen tundra w/ that 3.4l quad-cam 6cylinder bulletproof engine.
    I’ll pick function over form any day

      That was my thoughts also... seems awesome...till after the bumper to bumper is gone and at 39,999 miles something electronic happens... IMO with a Truck like the GMC you better add in what ever type of warranty will cover you till(and im taking the electronics like the touch screens/head unit/computers etc,etc) as long as you have it

    As a mechanic and owner of a '05 Frontier, I am glad that Nissan is still making awesome truck. Mine has been a reliable truck and is very easy to work on when things do break which is not very often. 215k and still going

      I still miss my 2005 Frontier.. I had 289,000 on it when I finally sold it to get a 2015 Rav 4. I needed more family space.. man do I miss that truck

      GM designs their vehicles to fall apart right after the warranty drops. I've owned several GM cars, passed down from my parents, and none of them ever made it to 100k miles before all hell broke loose.
      My first car purchase was 4 years ago, and I went with a hyundai and love it! I'm never going back to an American vehicle. Might get this frontier though, looks decent. I'm not a truck guy, but hauling grass to the dump in a pickup instead of suv would be nice.

    You hit the nail on the head. 4 cylinder turbo motors that last 10 years without issues are rare. I'm an engineer in the auto manufacturing industry and can tell you engine life, is what you are loosing for the added performance of a turbo 4 cylinder.
    Just Google Canyon/Colorado turbo failure and see for yourself.
    The best tip I could give a consumer is look for Vehicles that have been in production for the longest time without a major change to the drivetrain. Engineers don't stop working they just keep improving smaller and smaller issues as a model moves through its production life cycle. By the time a new model is being brought on to replace the old model the best cars or trucks are coming off the line. All the issues are worked out and if you are buying from a company that puts quality first it's hard to find an issue, it's worked out any issues that consumers have reported back. That assumes that you start with a solid engine and transmission, and computer system to manage it. You can't fix an engine that was not built to last on purpose or made with just making the sale as the priority. Honda, Toyota and Nissan all have V6 engines that will last you twice the life of a 4 cylinder turbo. There is nothing wrong with a 4 cylinder motor, its a great design but adding turbo (Hot) boost is taking away from its longevity. Boost performance cars that get driven hard for short durations, or a diesel motor that's built like a tank. In a commuter car or truck that you want to live long after its payed off, naturally aspirated engines are the king.
    Get them while you can they may be the last non electric vehicle you are allowed to buy.

      I bought a 2023 SV a bit over a year ago and I love it! Considering all that was said above, coupled with what I already know about the truck, longevity is a given in the Frontier. Nissan’s 3.8L V6 is just their already solid, tried and true 4.0L V6 with a redesign in the valve area (hence the loss of 0.2L), and it managed to squeeze out an extra almost 50HP as a result. Went from 261HP to 310HP with no turbo necessary. Also the rest of the truck is mostly carryover from the previous generation, which was solid and virtually unchanged from 2005-2021 (I had a 2014 also).
      So when you get the new one, you get already proven long term reliability, along with a new interior and way more comfortable seats, updated electronics, a host of safety features, more HP from a new (redesigned) engine and 9 speed tranny, and new exterior sheetmetal for sharp looks.
      Yes, I expect this truck to last me 10 years or longer.

      This post was accurate in the 80s. It is not today.
      My 25 year old Nissan has the original turbo and is still running strong. People still buy unopened 1jz/2jz Toyota turbo motors from the 90s and put them in their cars.
      Turbo engine are intercooled, and intake temperatures are WELL below the threshold where they cause any notable increase in wear.
      Improvements in materials, design, cooling, fuel control, have reached a point where a properly maintained turbo motors will need other maintenance LONG before the turbo blows. Of course a turbo adds complexity and it's "another thing to go wrong", but if that's your logic for choosing a power train then I suggest you go find a carbureted 6 cylinder somewhere. If you care about reliability, a turbo is not a valid reason to dismiss an engine in the modern era

      @@JokerG16 Yeah, it seems to be a trend. The 4 cyl Tacoma is more reliable than it's V6 but I wouldn't recommend the 4 cyl on the Taco. The V6 is already really slow.

      Yes. The million mile Frontier of Brian Murphy in Chicago. TFL truck interviewed him. That truck is in the Nissan museum now. Only thing he destroyed was the seat from constant use.

    Have a 2023 Frontier and so glad I went with that. Have actually hit over 26 mpg and only 6k on it. I think I will have this truck fora long time.

    Drove my 22 Frontier SV 4x4 from Appleton Wisconsin to Vegas and back and it was a great trip. My truck handled everything beautifully. Even on the interstates in Colorado and Utah it worked great climbing mountains with ease and holding 80+ mph with little effort. It was comfortable and even got pretty good MPGs.

    Great video explaining the differences between the two trucks. I made my research prior to seeing this video on midsize trucks and off roading. For my needs,I settled on the 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4x. I love this truck and know for sure it is going to last me for a long time. Less technology, less headaches. The naturally aspirated 6c engine is very reliable and the transmission is responsive and great gas mileage. You make the truck your own over the years. If I wanted a Denali to cruise on highways I wouldn’t be buying a truck. Thanks for the video.

    Frontier all the way with the 6 cyl. I've owned several Nissan trucks (both PU's and Xterra's) and the reliability is still there. I'll never own another GMC product, one was enough to learn that lesson.

    Naturally aspirated 300hp, doing it with dispacement and still good gas mileage, yes all the way. I really think this is something special to be able to say about a Japanese product, fits right in.

      Yeah you can say that. Could also say that about it being American. because these trucks are as much of US made product as any on the road.
      Surprising how many parts on my Frontier are made right here in TN, with final assembly and a lot of production in Missouri.

    I've been following the Facebook groups for both pickups. Right now there are so many issues with the Colorado/Canyon. Poor quality and the latest software update killed their batteries and left they're owners without the truck. Some folks have been reporting their information center is needing to be replaced and are waiting on part availability. The more software and gadgets, the more potential issues and problems. I'm leaning toward the Frontier but since I'm not in the market until next year, maybe the 2024 versions of GM's products will have their issues worked out. Anyway I'm happy to see the comparison between the two.

      No issues with my 2023 Canyon. Was a software issue that got fixed after an update that affected some people but let’s not act like all of them were. And it was a minor bug fix not a major issue like ur facebook group said hahah

      I traded my 22proX for a 23 Colorado TB I’ve had one issue with infotainment screen freezing up , my frontiers screen would freeze up least once a week not to mention it would sometimes roll away in park. Nissan waited to long to update the frontier it’s already old. The TB runs circles around the Nissan hands down.

      My 2023 trail boss has been nothing but incredible. Any new model year with new technology is gonna have kinks. The manufacturer owning up to them and correcting the issue is what matters.

    As others have stated here, I also am on my second frontier, traded my '05 base for a '14 pro-4x and I absolutely love my truck and it hasn't had a single problem now with over 100k on the clock and has never let me down. I may be bias but Its great that nissan went with function over frills. Hope sometime to be getting myself into a new pro-4x 👍

    I bought a ‘22 Nissan Frontier Pro-X in ‘22, personally, this is the truck to have. Sure, not the Pro-4X, however if you never really go off-road, why bother with spending more for a “luxury” Truck like the GMC Denali? It’s a truck, period. I’ve had three Nissans in my life, so far, ‘92 Nissan Hardbody (miss this one all the time), ‘02 Nissan Frontier Kind-Cab and now this Pro-X…. Absolutely love it!!!

    One difference is that there are frontier’s on the road with a million miles on the clock. It would take 5-6 GMC’s to get to that mileage

    I am all for trying to keep these mid sized trucks affordable. The Canyon's MSRP is what my SLT 4x4 Sierra was 5 years ago. Everything is just getting too expensive. I could not afford the same truck I have now if I needed a new one and would probably have to step down to a midsize.

    You said the AT4 doesn't have the rear locking differential but yes it does. The AT4x has front and rear is the difference

    Frontier is a no brainer for me. I am surprised by this bc I went into my truck/suv search with it not even on my radar. Now I’m close to buying it. It’s in my Top 3 and 1 of 2 trucks on the list.

    One thing I like about the Frontier...the availability of the longer 6 foot 2 inch bed. It allows the truck to be used for work purposes and the longer wheelbase makes for a nicer ride. GM made a mistake in taking away the 6 foot 2 inch bed in the Canyon/Colorado. I run a lawn care business on weekends. That 6 foot box is needed to fit all of my equipment.

    8:53 the problem with the built-in style radios is that there is no replacing them. You are stuck with them. Not a fan of proprietary everything.

    I think these two trucks are aimed at two different markets. I see the Frontier as more utilitarian and of course more affordable. Great, reliable, old school dependability for punching around the farm or construction worksite. The Denali, on the other hand, is targeting the luxury side of things - and they have certainly pulled it off. When Ram introduced their latest truck redesign, they sent the entire truck market into a tailspin - GM, Ford, Toyota, all playing catchup - until now. I really think GM hit this on out of the park.

    If I had not bought my 23 Tacoma I would have gone with the Nissan. I had a few colorados and even a 2020 Ranger. The Ranger was better than the Colorado but the Ranger kept putting fuel in the oil, enough to raise the level on the dipstick. Crazy I know. Ford replaced only one injector and not all four and it kept doing it. Fixed the problem with a taco!

    I own a 2006 Nissan frontier so I'm going with the frontier. I love the V6 4.0 litter engine. It only has 83,000 miles on it and I do all maintenance on it. It will last a long time.

    I had a GMC Sonoma as my first in the 90's and I had some trouble with it (electronics, suspension) and now own a Frontier that I purchased back in Oct 21'. It has been trouble-free thus far and I love the truck and driving it. I have owned several Nissans (Xterra, Altima, and Rogue) and all of them have been great and I can't see myself going back to a GM product.

    Nissan is for people who know and appreciate a real truck; who tow/haul regularly. GM is for all others who want a car in the shape of a truck, for the very few times they may need to tow/haul something, but who 99% of their time use it get groceries. All the turbo engines perform poorly when towing: turbos screaming, running hot, and guzzling fuel. The adage holds true: there is no replacement for displacement. True, if Nissan had a few more creature features, likely N could capture more switcher buyers: such as telescoping steering, larger info screen, soft touch everywhere in cab, and brake controller. These are not difficult to fit, so maybe Nissan will do for later years: hope so.

    I currently own a 2022 GMC Canyon Elevation 2WD. I want to switch for a 4WD truck for the stuff I want to do. I build a 2023 Canyon with all the packages I have on my 2022, the msrp is over 56k… no way I will pay that for a midsize truck. The Frontier is getting my attention but I will wait what Nissan will bring for 2024

      I doubt that 56k is a denali a heavily optioned at4 is like 52k. Hell 57k gets you an at4x. Besides the last gen was an afterthought for gm.

    I think the gmc interior dash and door panels and the console has a bunch of afterthought looking add ons!! Some of us actually like the more simplistic approach of the nissan, less stuff to take your eyes off the road,you know, that thing in front of you you're supposed to be looking at

    The new Canyon is a gorgeous and capable truck, but it just too expensive for a midsize truck. Heck, even the Frontier is too damn expensive, but it's a better value than anything else in the midsize segment. That said, I'm not sure if I can stomach $47k for a loaded Pro4x. I'm waiting for manufacturers to start offering huge discounts on these things. With economic conditions worsening everyday, I expect heavy discounts to become inevitable in the near future.

    Frontier for me. There is a lot to say about simplicity especially when you're driving. I like to have simple buttons and levers on a truck with useful features like blind spot monitoring etc. I've had 3 frontiers and loved everyone. I grew up with GMC products and lets just say reliability has never been their strong suit.

      I prefer the 3.8 in the modern Frontier more but it'd be a mistake for Nissan to not bring back the Xterra. I think it'd sell well with the Frontier's drivetrain.

      The 2.7 turbo is a somewhat proven engine, but the 3.8 V6 in the Nissan is your safest bet.

    There may not be an off road setting in the frontier but the stability control seems much more tuned for off road driving in 4 low then 4 high.

    16:50 the at4 has an automatic locking differential and 4 high and 4 low. Just seems like you have to spin it a little for it to catch or recognize. Not just the at4x.

    As an old Boomer (gasp), I think the simplicity of the Frontier would fit the bill for a mid size truck. And the N/A 3.8L is exactly the engine I would want. I owned a 2020 Ford Ranger with the 2.3L turbo engine. I wasn't impressed. It returned good mpgs on the highway, but around town if you weren't careful you would spool up the turbo. When that happened the city mpg's would suffer. I understand the younger generation would want more technology. I get that as they grew up with it, but for me the simpler the better. Owning a full size truck now there will come a time when I won't need that size truck. The Frontier would fit my needs nicely.

    The GM 2.7 turbo 4 cylinder scares me, I don't believe they have all the bugs worked out, hence the delay in shipping both the Canyon and the Colorado. For my money I think I'm going to go with the tried and true, Frontier, with that bullet proof V6 naturally aspirated engine. I also like the less frills, just wondering how that Fender audio sounds vs the old Fosgate?? Great review btw.

      I had a fender system in my VW GLI as well as one in my Pro4x and I can tell you my GLIs system sounded way tighter, detailed, and better imaging. It's not bad in the Pro4x but not as good as I expected.

      The 2.7 turbo 4 is already somewhat proven, so I wouldn’t be too scared of it if I were you. That said, the 3.8 V6 is a more appealing and better option.

    Is that 80.4" height correct? My 2021 Sierra SLT is only 75.5" and at that height is iffy for some parking garages.

    What I like about the Frontier is the KISS technology ( keep it simple stupid). It’s great…., no techno garbage that’s NOT needed.

    That offroad segment was just bad. The canyon has a g80 locking rear dif its not selectable but its a locking diff. And the comment about the at4x not being able to slide around in 2wd was just dumb as it has 2wd. The auto setting should have been talked about more as itll be the most useful bit day to day when dealing with situations where you may or may not lose traction.
    And last i saw they were not welding the side steps to the body, itll probably be a pain in the ass to remove but it wont take all afternoon to do.

    Great review! I'm on the Nissan side. I like the price, slightly smaller size and a non-turbo motor. If I'm not mistaken, I believe to get maximum horsepower on the GMC, you need high test gas. Even more money over the Nissan. IMO.

    The Frontier's infotainment GUI is fine, but the lag when scrolling definitely needs to be addressed. $150 android units lag less than this.

    Good review, I Love GMC But Frontier is my choice believe it will go easily 200k miles with no problems, GM already having problems with software updates. Please asap review a 2024 Ranger, Thanks

    Those prices are ridiculous. Even $45k for the Nissan. These aren’t even full-size trucks. Hell full-size trucks run up to 80 grand. Vehicles just aren’t worth that kind of money to me.

      I agree, I went to a GMC dealer just yesterday and set my limit at $45k, couldn’t even touch a GMC Canyon that was equipped like I wanted. I bought a full size GMC Sierra 1500 SLE new in 2012 for just over $21k. I can’t believe what they want for new trucks today, absolutely ridiculous, so I guess I’ll keep my full size for now.

    You can fully load a 23-24’ Colorado Trail Boss for less than both trucks. The Premium package Trail Boss with the Tech Package will have the extra cameras for over landing. It includes the rear differential lock. All for $45k.

    I own two Frontiers and one Titan, I think both trucks are better than the GMC. I like the simplicity of the Nissan, I hate turbos on gas trucks because of the maintenance.

    This guy has improved IMMENSELY in his reviews over the years. His drive quality feedback is really pretty good.
    He needs to stop saying things like "it's more composed, more refined..." Those phrases don't actually say anything specific. HOW is it more composed? How do you define that? HOW is it more refined? What does that mean? In what ways?

      And his drive review contradicts itself a lot. Listen to his drive of the Nissan and then the GMC back-to-back. He says that the Nissan feels faster, but the GMC's engine is "right there"; the Nissan hunts for gears but the GMC is smoother; the steering feels is just about the same, but the GMC is more stable and the Nissan is less precise; the off-center steering in a corner is just about equal but the Nissan needs more mid-corner corrections (which means it's wandering). When he gives specific examples, the GMC's steering, engine response, and transmission all sound better, but then he says they're about the same or the Nissan feels quicker.

    Both trucks look excellent and as much as I think the Canyon is a superior truck (and proven on paper), I also believe in the long run the Frontier will be a handsome, hard working, trusty rig for years after the Canyon's looks appear kitchy and the high-dollar tech starts to fail or at least become obsolete. There's something to be said for a truck made to TRUCK. Nissan has always done that well.
