@@owengrant9066 I wish we could get more games like Day of the Tentacle which had really excellent puzzles, but plenty of point and click games coming out nowadays are better than space quest 1. Don't see what's wrong with complaining about a bad parser, a crap arcade sequence, required save scumming, a "puzzle" that requires you to stand in a specific spot and look at the ship in order to know that a required item exists, etc. I guess you could consider it part of the fun to hunt for required items and figure out what arcane commands are needed and stuff like that. I have to appreciate how you gradually started thinking the way the game wanted you to, and began catching more traps and hidden interactions before they could screw you over. It's one of those skills no one should ever have to learn.
Count me in as looking forward to King's Quest III. On one hand, the game makes a lot of steps forward for the series. It has a lot more story, its more focused, it doesn't just dump you in a field and ask you to solve random puzzles. Its the first game in the series that really feels like the King's Quest that comes later. On the other hand, boy does this game make some choices. Some absolutely wild choices.
I already knew immediately the beam puzzle would get to you. Both Guys from Andromeda acknowledge it as one of the most frustrating puzzles in the game, because the solution isn't communicated to you in any way.
The remake of the game that Sierra put out about 5 years later using their more advanced SCI game engine took the opportunity to give the player ways to bypass or at least better understand the more obscure puzzles of the original. The crashed spaceship actually has the survival kit and pieces of broken glass in the sand outside, with the glasa helpfully glittering in the sun to make it super obvious. It's made easier to force the spider droid to encounter Orat (the original game requires a very specific set of events to happen to make sure Orat is triggered inside the cave at the same time the spider is chasing you; the remake just spawns Orat in the cave all the time). The arcade Skimmer sequence can be skipped, as can the fruit machine in the Bar (through use of a magnet you can find back at the start of the game). While these quality of life changes don't really change the overall game, they do make some of it's more 'ambiguous' puzzles easier to figure out. It's still possible to go into the caverns without picking up the glass shard in this remake, but if you don't try to pick up the now super obvious glass pieces that literally sparkle for you, then it's more the player's own fault than in the original. 🤣
Don't stop uploading Pak, I love your content. From your hits like Iron Lung, the Doom mod and Signalis, to your game demo recommendations. I discovered some real gems because of those. Keep it up!
It seems like these don't get the views they deserve, but I'm really glad you make them. No other UA-camr does trepidation, bewilderment, and frustration as well as you do, and these games are perfect for that haha, keep it up! I never played these but always wanted to, so it's nice watching you play, especially when you don't know what you're doing. It feels like getting the full experience that way.

10-year-old me in 1987 managed to solve the glass/laser puzzle in a couple hours, but completely failed to find Orat's cave and had to resort to the hint book. I thought Orat was the sand monster that grabs you if you go in the wrong direction, and tried to have the spider follow me into the desert.
I very rarely watch 20 minutes of somebody's video and click subscribe. Well deserved, great content. And great ear for music, seems like some of the best games of the times are really spreading in influence.

I had an interesting Space Quest walkthrough as a kid, it covered the first 3 games and was written as a play-by-play telling of the game by Roger Wilco. I dont know if it was an official guide or not, but I must have read that thing a hundred times back then. I remember having a very similar guide for Quest for Glory games, where the walkthrough was written as a sort of novel detailing the main character's travels through the games.

Ah space quest. Such an amazing series. Space quest 4 was one of my absolute favourites as a kid. I just watched the space quest historian do a playthrough not that long ago.
