12:00 The reason why it's called The Lost World: Jurassic Park is because there was already a movie called The Lost World that came out in the 30s (same one Crichton named his novel after). It had a dinosaur rampaging around London, which was the inspiration for the San Diego finale in this one. The jump from Isla Sorna to San Diego meanwhile is a homage to King Kong (both Kong and the Rex are transported by a ship called the Venture). Nobody likes that jump cut either.
I think the hate for the CGI in this podcast is unfounded as I would argue that the CGI in this movie is better then what a majority of modern movies have in theirs. The CGI in this movie is really GOOD!
@Ewan Callister Tim especially has the opinion that old movies are old, and therefore worse. And he is often very vocal with his takes. I haven’t listened to this all the way yet, but that seemed to be general take
I'm honestly surprised by how many people seem to dislike TLW recently. I remember it was very popular for a long time and I personally love it. I also saw it in theaters when I was 5, maybe that's why.
I never liked it as much as the first but I still watched it a lot. I really liked the baby t rex the whole rv Cliff sequence. Raptors in tall grass. The villain is a great character actor. And the T Rex in San Diego is super fun.
The harshness they have for this movie seems a little unnecessary. It has its problems but it’s still decent. It’s probably the second or third best JP movie and they’re dunking on it so hard they are probably gonna put it last.
3 is better, I'm sorry it just is. 2 is so fucking boring! 3 is the 2nd best of this series, anyone who thinks otherwise is (IMO and obviously have your own opinions and don't be a dick to people who disagree) just wrong.
ALSO, the Lysene Contingency is from the novels! At the end it's revealed that the dinosaurs that escaped the island prey on herd animals who eat lysene-based plants, which puts them in populated areas and thus they kill people along the way. For some reason Jurassic Park avoided the "dinos escape to the mainland" theme in the first, third and fourth movies, so this important novel storyline people just DON'T associated with the movies, who instead wallowed in generic monster plots that take the main characters to the islands instead.

I get that this island means a whole revolution in dinosaur information and research but c'mon, petting that stegosaurus' baby with no idea how it'll react? Not great, guys. Im sorry but the soundtrack, IMO, is my favourite of the series as well. I've honestly listened to the entire soundtrack multiple times all the way through. The heavier drums in scenes like approaching the island and the raptors in the long-grass play into the darker atmosphere and amplify every second, and I don't believe anyone doesn't get excited by the music in the hunt scene with Tembo's crew capturing all the dinosaurs. Speaking of Roland fucking Tembo, show me a more badass character in all this series. Pete Postlethwaite plays him to perfection. A grizzled veteran hunter quickly finding himself out of his depth and having to take matters into his own hands. Love it. Finally, the Cliff sequence? Best scene in the whole series. I said it. And as for the 'gymnastics vs raptor' and the San Diego ending? Never bothered me. Could they be improved? Sure. But they're existence in the film has never brought the experience down for me. 1:17:15 NO WAY I WAS MENTIONED!! I think an important factor here is that I won it BY ACCIDENT: when I submitted it I thought it was just a fun activity, had no idea it was a competition! The Camp Cretaceous Pack adds dinosaurs from the Camp Cretaceous animated series, including the three Baryonx, the Scorpius Rex and the bioluminescent Parasaurolophus (try saying that five times fast!).
I am kinda surprised how much you all rail against this one. Its not great don't get me wrong but I read ahead of the class and watched 3 already and that one really feels like it falls off a cliff. Billy sensually digging dinosaurs, Grant says nothing will get him back to the island and 5 minutes later goes back to the island for the same reason as before, the talking to the raptors, the whole ending sequence. In comparison to 3 they did a good job with this one
The only good thing you can say about 3 is that it understands what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. It's a cheap action movie and commits to that. This one, it tries to be exciting, while also having its environmental message and that leads the protagonists to either do very stupid or boring things, or it leads to Nick being a protagonist even though he's as much the villain as Nedry was in the first one, but without a redeemable motive.
I actually love this movie, well the first 2 acts, the San Diego thing is something I’m so so on. I especially loved how the dinosaurs in this movie are treated less like monsters and more like animals. Also John Williams theme (Malcolm’s Journey) for the scenes when everyone is on the move makes you feel like you are in for a true prehistoric safari. I hope at the very least they mention in Dominion what happened to all the animals there. Especially the baby T-Rex.
Jurassic Park is the perfect example of the books being better than the movies. A detail left out of the movies is that the Compys' saliva has a slight paralyzing agent. So when 20 jump on you, you might knock most of them off, but you're gonna get bit a few times, which slows you down the next time 20 jump on you, so even more will bite you. Eventually you just stop moving but are fully conscious as they start eating your soft bits. That's how Hammond dies in the books. Also I'm 99% sure that there were some raptors that snuck on board the ship that killed all the crew in the book.
I still consider this to be a pretty good movie. Doesn’t hold a candle to the original, but it’s still a Spielberg dinosaur movie. I personally thought the score was the best of the series, the CG holds up surprisingly well, the action was great and I love that SS went more heavily in a horror/thriller direction this time around. If it wasn’t directly following up one of the greatest movies of all time, I think it would be less demeaned
San Diego section is NOT in the book. Book was definitely rushed, and not Chrichton’s best, but movie follows it very, very loosely. In the book, Kelly is not Malcolm’s daughter, and the second team is led by Dodgson, the guy Nedry calls out in the cafe scene of movie 1.
To be clear NICK: It's referred to in the films as the Lysine Contingency. Yes, it does involve a deficiency in Lysine but they call it the Lysine Contingency, as it's a Contingency plan to keep the spread of the animals if they ever got off of the island.
I LOVED this movie as a kid and I think it was the first introduction to Jeff Goldblum’s humor that resonated with me. He’s got quips in the first movie but the sass in this one is top notch
awe i loved this movie. super nostalgic because after loving the original the cgi in this movie was amazing and the scene in the beginning where they're in vehicles surrounded by stampeding dinosaurs i was hooked.
For in review series, an idea would be a "legends series" where you do an in review of films on the national film registry: On going and something you can flex to when stuff gets delayed etc.
They couldn’t (and shouldn’t) do every film on there. I really don’t need to hear the KF crew’s opinion of Stranger than Paradise, or any film made before 1970.
@@Godwilla39 Don't expect them to do every film. There are a bunch of films on that list that would be cool for them to visit and I don't see when they would otherwise - regardless of it was before or after 1970.
Man, this movie gets way too much hate. It's not great, by any means, but it's entertaining. And for my money, the baby rex sequence is scarier and more suspenseful than anything in the original.
The hate for this movie is very surprising. It's not as good as the first one, but it's not bad. A solid 7/10 for me. JP is a 10/10. JP3 is an 6/10. JW is a 8/10.. JW2 is probably a 6/10.
Probably would have been better if they stayed closer to the book. They decided to add things that were in the Jurassic Park book into the movie. Same as the 3rd movie.
I’m extremely bias because I am a JP fanboy but, even without the nostalgia googles, The Lost World is not nearly as bad as y’all are saying imo. Tim calling Sarah worse than Jar Jar Binks!? That’s as harsh a criticism of a character can get. It doesn’t hold a candle to the first but nothing can. I think it’s judged way too harshly because the first one was pretty much perfect
I like TLW, Jurassic World, and yes even Fallen Kingdom. But with the latter two, I can understand why people hate those movies, and see a lot of valid criticisms. But TLW is one of those rare movies that I don't understand why it gets so much hate. It's far from being as amazing as the first, but is that's it's goal? I'd say for some people yeah, but for me I just want a dinosaur adventure with people being eaten (morbid I know). The gymnastics thing is not good, but it's 30 seconds of a 2 hour movie. And I LOVE the San Diego scene... I just think getting to that scene came out of nowhere, and was an obvious last minute addition. Other than that, I love this movie for what it is, a fun action, adventure film. The film I don't like is JP3, but we'll get there soon.
100% agree with you. This is my first time watching all these movies and I’m shocked at the hate for this. People talk about this like Indy 4. It’s a perfectly fine movie at the very least.
Man, I liked the second book. I remember at the time not liking the movie because it barely stuck to the book. The first Jurassic Park used parts of the book, because it would've been tough to get everything into one movie (a lot of that book content made it into Jurassic Park 3). With Lost World, it felt like they used the characters and some ideas from the book, but strayed from it a lot. This just makes me want to go back and read the books now.
So after Julianne Moore goes out of her way to touch and interact with a baby Stegosaurus, she then proceeds to yell at Vince Vaughn for attempting to light a cigarette and says, "We’re here to observe and document, not interact." Like what the fuck? I can't believe Spielberg directed this.
I feel like I needed grant and Ellie so much man. I didn’t realize I loved those characters that much. I liked Jeff goldblum but every other character I didn’t care for at all
Not sure if it has already been said but having read and loved the book I would say that there is nearly no correlation between the book and the movie. The antagonists Consist of three people who are looking to steal eggs from the island, there are two children who are not related to Malcolm and there are no plans to move dinosaurs or hunt them. I don’t know what Spielberg was thinking but I think he just wanted a King Kong moment in San Diego!
While I am nostalgic for this one, it is a wet noodle of an overall film, that is elevated tremendously by Spielberg. This is essentially what the first film would've been if it was directed by anyone else, which is really odd and funny. This needed a different director that can do schlock or pure popcorn entertainment which Spielberg just can't do very well with low substance material. Even he admits during filming he knew it was not good. Also, this made me lament that this film basically symbolized the end of Dean Cundey's career since he didn't get to participate in it, his visuals were sorely missed on this one. 3/5 on the KF scale.
This was my first watch and while it’s doesn’t have any magic at all. There’s some cool dynamics, lines, action scenes. Fantastic beast to Harry Potter.
Just going to say it, Roland is the best part of this movie. The fact that he's there just to shoot a T-Rex is the most believable part of the movie and he's kind of awesome. I want a movie starring this guy.
I know the general consensus around this movie is that it's bad but I love this one. As a kid if I was gunnna watch JP I had to make it a double feature. Watching it as an adult I still love it.
The movie is VERY different from the book. Screenwriter David Koepp botched it….(he cameos as the guy that gets eaten at the Blockbuster door) Different goals & motives, different villains, Dodgson comes back, no ingen, no San Diego bullshit, and the deaths in the book are so much better
Yea the book is actually excellent and only has the high hide in common with the movie! Also what’s with merging the black boy and white girl from the book into one character and making Eddie a short fat guy when he was supposed to be big and athletic?
this is when Jurassic Park started having fun with it's super silly world. the 1st movie takes itself way too seriously for me, if you're in a world where dinosaurs are being necromanced...I can't take that seriously it's wacky and silly. I know I'm in the minority but whatever its just 1 guy's opinion.
What bothers me most about this movie is the part where the hippie chooses death by t rex over snake, Ian runs into the waterfall drenched! The next scene (the cool tall grass scene) Ian is dry, his hair looking like he came back to the salon and his clothes all crisp out of the dryer. Like wtf
That's not even the worst continuity fail in this movie. When the trailer starts going over the cliff its back window falls off or at least opens, and when Sarah falls it's suddenly still closed.
So i was just re-watching the velociraptor scene and the first two things that strike me is that the soundtrack sounds like a 1960's James Bond fight scene at a seaside resort. You might as well play Copacabana ua-cam.com/video/b_TeX6JJTbA/v-deo.html. Also the raptors growls are clearly dog recordings without any distortion to hide the fact. Then the girl flips and kicks a raptor. This movie is maddening!
Watching this movie again has taught me that The Jurassic Park franchise is like getting addicted to crack. That first hit is the purest most sublime sensation that you’ll spend decades chasing after unsuccessfully. You’ll get clean in 2001 and swear off the sauce, but 14 years later you’ll start hanging out with Chris Pratt and spiral out of control.
From the start I feel like I'm not going to like this episode. Rewatching these for your in review I still like this movie. No where close to as great as the original was, but entertaining. It seems like this episode will just be bashing, which are the In Review episodes I don't like at all. Might be wrong as I'm making this comment early into watching, but will see.
You guys need to get more dissenting voices on these things. Every episode of this show that I've listened to (which has been admittedly few) has been everyone either jizzing themselves over or absolutely dumping on whatever movie you're talking about, and everyone usually has the same opinion. Like I actually enjoy The Lost World more than the original Jurassic Park, and even though I don't expect there to necessarily be anyone within Kinda Funny who agrees with me on that, it would be nice to have someone interject and take the opposing position so I don't have to spend an hour and a half listening to one of my favorite movies get completely trashed without someone trying to defend it.
Got to say you guys are way too unnecessarily harsh on this movie. Is it as good as the first one? No. Not by a country mile. But it’s still a decent movie in it’s own right and tries to do something different. Also I don’t know how you all watched it, but I watched it last night on 4K blu-ray on my LG OLED and it looked and sounded fantastic and the dinosaur effects absolutely hold up for the most part, especially considering it’s 25 years old! Just my two cents 🙂 🦖
The funny thing is the lost world book is quite different from the movie. It has the same basic set up and one or two similar scenes like the trucks hanging off the cliff. But other than that it plays out differently. Also the movies that make the humans the main threat just don’t have the magic of the original. Because then it’s about military experiments or making money off the poor Dinosaurs.
Was the recent one the last one? Because unless things changed, I believe they said they were waiting for them all to be finished before reviewing them.
@@ninjanick7369 Oh, I don't follow the news on that series since I'm not interested on it. But I guess that means we'll need to wait until Warner decides what they're doing.

I don’t know what Spielberg was thinking but I think he just wanted a King Kong moment in San Diego!
Truly rare form today for everyone but especially daddy Nick. Great ep!
I am wrong and thinking the guys r pretty off on this one cause I really think this movie is fun and very enjoyable
Also the little kid In the beginning didn't die, Hammond mentioned she's fine later
KF Crew sooooooo wrong about this movie.
Some really great practical effects in this movie but man are there a lot of bad scenes and choices made in this one.
Velocipastor in review should be part of this
Just going to say it, Roland is the best part of this movie. The fact that he's there just to shoot a T-Rex is the most believable part of the movie and he's kind of awesome. I want a movie starring this guy.
Jurassic Park 3 was Joe Johnston who directed Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji and Capt America
No lie, me and Nick said "2 Rex, 2 Furious" at the exact same time
I know the general consensus around this movie is that it's bad but I love this one. As a kid if I was gunnna watch JP I had to make it a double feature. Watching it as an adult I still love it.
Definite shout-out to the PC RTS. I really enjoyed that game.
The movie is VERY different from the book. Screenwriter David Koepp botched it….(he cameos as the guy that gets eaten at the Blockbuster door)
Different goals & motives, different villains, Dodgson comes back, no ingen, no San Diego bullshit, and the deaths in the book are so much better
Yea the book is actually excellent and only has the high hide in common with the movie! Also what’s with merging the black boy and white girl from the book into one character and making Eddie a short fat guy when he was supposed to be big and athletic?
ANDY NEEDS ONE MORE TAKE AT THE BABY T-REX ROAR PLEASE
It's a 5 or 6 out of 10 that's great at times, and I have some nostalgia for it. I ain't mad at it, but it clearly has issues.
43:24 Nick's Billy.
Oh God please do Godzilla as a Jurassic Park movie hahahaha!!!
this is when Jurassic Park started having fun with it's super silly world. the 1st movie takes itself way too seriously for me, if you're in a world where dinosaurs are being necromanced...I can't take that seriously it's wacky and silly. I know I'm in the minority but whatever its just 1 guy's opinion.
Put some respect on Peter Stormare’s name PLEASE & THANK-YOU.
This movie is fun. Y’all are a bunch of haters
This movie is maddening!
legit surprised balletic is a real word
Toby from West Wing is playing Odin in GoW: Ragnarok. Will he get eaten by World Serpent?
🤸♀️ > 🦖
Funnily enough, paleontologists theorize the T-Rex was a silent predator - people wouldn't have heard them!
You guys should do Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean In Review
Wait a second, is the trilogy of park and world just exactly the same? I’m just realizing this
Come on man, Spielberg directed all the Indiana movies
Watching this movie again has taught me that The Jurassic Park franchise is like getting addicted to crack. That first hit is the purest most sublime sensation that you’ll spend decades chasing after unsuccessfully. You’ll get clean in 2001 and swear off the sauce, but 14 years later you’ll start hanging out with Chris Pratt and spiral out of control.
lol
From the start I feel like I'm not going to like this episode.
Rewatching these for your in review I still like this movie. No where close to as great as the original was, but entertaining.
It seems like this episode will just be bashing, which are the In Review episodes I don't like at all. Might be wrong as I'm making this comment early into watching, but will see.
"Toby."
- Greg Miller
It’s not that bad… it’s a ok 90s action movie in my opinion
1:06:28 they actually did that in Lego Jurassic World
Got to say you guys are way too unnecessarily harsh on this movie.
I can’t prove it, but I’m betting all of them have tru motion on their tvs turned on
God how many times I rewatched this and MIB….rose tinted glasses it’s great, objectively not so much.
I love this movie. People need to chill.
Sorry for remembering the lysine contingency 🥺
SAY HIS NAME! Peter Stormarandier
The compys are poisonous. Actually the velociraptors are too in the books.
Didn't Spielberg direct Last Crusade and Crystal Kingdom
Yeah but what about the lysine contingency?!
The CG on the Brachiosaurus scene in the first movie was bad. The CG does not hold up at all in that scene
Is kinda funny going to do fantastic beasts in review?
Was the recent one the last one? Because unless things changed, I believe they said they were waiting for them all to be finished before reviewing them.
@@mikegates8993 There are supposed to be 5, but Warner said there might not be another if this doesn't do well.
@@ninjanick7369 Oh, I don't follow the news on that series since I'm not interested on it. But I guess that means we'll need to wait until Warner decides what they're doing.
Considering they don't want to cover the Hogwarts Legacy game bc of the creator I doubt they'll review it
Calling it now these guys are gonna be surprised by jurrasic park 3. I enjoy that movie i think its a little underated. Still not great by any means but its solid.
I like this movie but then again I'm not really harsh on movies
I thought Pete (hunter) Postelweight was F Murray Abraham
Where’s the rest of the movies?
After the 1st movie I watched 2 & 3 & while they are flawed I still like them over any of the new ones, I hate the World movies
The fact that nick keeps calling them “campys” instead of the correct “compys” wants me to unfollow him on instagram.
