Might I suggest to anyone taking the entire controller apart, before you start removing the boards, TAPE YOUR ABXY, OPTIONS, MENU, & XBOX BUTTONS DOWN TO THE CONTROLLER. It will save you an hour of putting the inner board back in and out over and over because you will likely never get all the buttons aligned.

My left arrow button was stuck, so I swabed the contacts on the board with high conc. alchohol, and for now it's working as expected.

4:05 you can prevent this type of damage by using plastic tools when disassembling. General rule is to use a material that is weaker than object you're working on. Especially with older, more rare items, its better to damage the tool than the item being repaired.

He gave me his older controller which the D pad didn't work. I took it apart cleaned it with a qtip and alcohol. Still nothing. I found this video. Just minutes in you told me to UPDATE the controller. 😮I've never heard of a controller needing to be update. But following the steps and just like that I have a Red Camo xontroller that I now call Chemo because it kills shit to give life. Good look boo

⚠️⚠️⚠️WARNING⚠️⚠️⚠️ If you are only experiencing a slight annoyance DO NOT even bother with Solution 1... I had a small issue of the L stick sticking sometimes on idle, decided to give this cleaning a try from another video... Now i probably have a broken controller. Somehow, cleaning the L stick made my D-pad start stucking down making it impossible for me to even scroll, so i came here and tried the same method now somehow my controller is struggling to even turn on with full batteries..... 🤦 Idk what tf is going on but thankfully i got it to turn on and the D-pad isnt sticking rn as long as i dont touch it at all... and i dont have the tools rn to open up the controller...... So if your problem is very slight like mine was at first, be very careful, skip Solution 1 and just try Solution 2, 3, and 4, or simply deal with it unless u can afford a new controller. Now i feel like mine is made of glass and if i even shake it the whole thing may stop working
Update: now it's the left side of the D-pad... Makes my games pretty much unplayable 🙃 this is what I get for even thinking this was gonna be an easy fix. Now it's 20x worse
@@that_dax_guy Use a small flat head instead of a safety torque, wedge it in and you will be able to take the remote apart without speacility tools. Remote probably has a lot of muck underneath and needs a good clean, hope this helps. If your confused on what I mean look up how to use a flathead on a safety torque!
EXACT THING that happened to me my bottom dpad is automatically going on it’s own and my controller power is not doing well it turns off randomly and my button mapping on my elite controller won’t work
Okay, so I DO NOT recommend skipping the cardboard scraping method, because I have presented it in various videos which have amassed MILLIONS of views collectively. Complaints like the above are rare. People are welcome to go through the comments on those videos. You could have a fingernail down in there, and the cardboard will nudge it aside. Even in the rare event that it does make the problem worse, you can continue to the inside methods, where further cleanings will likely resolve the issue that got worse.
Exact same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago, i ain't saying this is trash or anything, I'm just pretty upset with this I just tried to fix a little bit of drift on the left stick and ended up with a D pad fully broken + working-connected-only controller :(
PLZ READ for everybody who’s d pad doesn’t wanna click/work #1 u wanna take off the top cover #2 unnattatch the metal thingy holding the d pad and take off the dpad #3 check if the button still works by plugging it in and using ur finger or anything to click it. If it does u wanna add anything that thin like tinfoil paper etc and stick it on top the button that won’t click. Than put the d pad back on and make sure it works. That’s how I fixed mying. For some reason if u so much as tap the new controllers wrong the dpad wont be able to reach the button and that’s why u add the thin price of tinfoil or paper etc
Oh and if ur having issues with the security screws just take a star bit screwdriver about the same size and wiggle it around to try to snap the middle piece. I’ve tried with flat but but don’t star but works better
Hope it helps, personally had this or a similar issue with the Forza Horizon 5 limited edition controller. Took the screws out and took the top cover off and without the top cover the d-pad worked absolutely fine. Used a file to remove material of the d-pad hole in the top cover where it wasn't clicking until it would when I put the cover back on. Put it back together and now it works properly. Seems like, on my controller at least, from factory either the d-pad was slightly too big or the hole slightly too small. Would first try warranty of course. Though, if not an option, perhaps taking the top cover off and seeing if it clicks then is a good place to start?

I found that it wasn't necessary to put a tool behind the grip to pull it off. Once you push the button down just slip a finger behind it and pull.
