This year will mark the 70th anniversary since Roger Bannister broke the record in 1954.
What a performance from Roger.
Absolutely well said David

It was a shame on the day. Debbie, but I'm sure it will come back when they 've done whatever it was necessary. Thank you, Alan

Thanks again Alan I love your message about keeping positive people in your life, your so right. Keep safe keep happy keep well 💖
Hello Trisha, I do believe it's very true that our mind is affect us either good or bad, but these people that amplify that by breaking barriers prove the point and when I and everybody else slips and have a bad day, It's good to grasp onto these thoughts as much as possible Thank you, Alan
Hello Alan, I did not know of the cemetery awards, I bet other burial grounds are dying to achieve such an accolade! Whenever I hear someone say "Only five minutes late", I say Roger Bannister never said that! Both comments are meant respectfully, cheers Yogi.
Great work Alan keep up the good mood👏👏👏
Hello Moggy with your little encouragement, I'll do my best. Thank you mate
Hello Alan! Having just watched your beautiful and inspirational video of this giant in English history, you've left me deeply impressed. So much so that, acontinuation, I've scrolled down to your "comment" section to read your viewers words and.. he was such a loved man by so many!
As a youngster at my schools (St. Columba's College in St. Albans and
St. Augustine's boarding school in Westgate on Sea) I ran middle distance athletics and cross-country for both in regional championships. After those schooling years I continued to run, regularly training at Copthal Stadium in Hendon. Some of the youngsters from Shaftsbury Harriers would too.. and Sharon Davies - then unknown - would often be training at the pool. At that time Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett were regularly battling out middle distance running on international circuits and - with the help of TV - were names known to all. Brilliant though they were, a young Northerner appeared and became my favourite. His name was Steve Cram.
Yet from years before it was Roger Bannister who most inspired me to run.. and keep running!
I must add that your video was not only one of your best (re read your comments!) but also a special history lesson of times gone by. Norris (and Ross) McGuirter were giants of their day... you mentioning Norris brought back memories of another "giant" that I grew up watching - and listening to: Raymond Baxter.
Films with "runners" were not really the norm years ago... yet Chariots of Fire is a must for any film buff.. or runner! I should add that Gallipoli is too..
I remain smiling and happy thanks to you "making present" Roger Bannister to us all...
Womderful! Thank you Alan
Leo, amazing! You did so much to connect yourself to a person like Roger Bannister. I have to confess that I'm not particular sports person but I recognise the human challenge to become the best and to whatever degree. It's a combination of mental and physical and I'm sure from your experience in life, you understand much more closely than me. Thank you for the great comments regards, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeepguess who's back?
Hi Alan,
I was brought up in Harrow and my secondary school used the Roger Banister Sports Field during the summer in the 70’s for PE lessons where we were encouraged to have a go at field and track events. Knowing what many of the kids were like in my year group it still amazes me today that no-one found themselves on the wrong end of a javelin!! I was never very good at throwing things nor the 100 meters etc but I could run for miles at what I thought was a decent speed. One of our PE teachers encouraged a group of us likeminded ones to form a cross country running group. We enjoyed it a lot and thought we weren’t too bad at it over a distance of around ten miles. As time went along we were entered in a local schools cross country race that took place around the perimeter of the RBSF. This was a disaster as we soon found out on the day that we were up against kids that ran for professional groups such as the Harrow Athletics Club who left us standing! We went back to doing what we did best…..distance at our own speed and just competing with each other.
Kind regards,
Mark
That was this a very interesting little story. Mark, Thank you and I understand. Sometimes you do it just for the fun and that was best in your case. Once it becomes professional, it's a whole different event. I want to stayed an annual school race in the upper school is about 13 and had the honour of coming in second last from the entire school. I hated PE 😉 they actually filmed it. If it's still exist, I'd love to see it. Thank you my friend. If we ever meet I'm sure you'll would be well in front of me Alan
That was so good Alan, another feather in your cap! Maybe the stone has gone for refurbishment or something- ironic that he died of a neurological disease- keep up the good work, keep well x
Thank you Carol. It was a shame for my film and to represent Roger that the stone had gone. I will try and find out if it's been returned. All the best, Alan
Well done alan great video on the the wonderful roger bannister what a life he had great life story also never knew he was a doctor as well wow

Hello Margaret, he was and he put his professional career as far more important than his running. Regards, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Cheers alan for that info keep up the good work 👍
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Everything about the commentary was so positive as well as informative. Looking forward to the next one.

Hi Alan trust you are well I remember that 4 minute mile but often wondered had happened to him thanks for sharing
Hi Alan lovely video looks a lovely place is it warm you’ve got your shorts on thanks 👍🏻😊❤️
Exactly Crystal it was I believe around September last year 😊
Thanks for this historic achievement. Love your very interesting channel love from Lily
Andy, very big! Thank you! Lily 💓
What a lovely tribute and video Alan about Sir Dr Roger Bannister although bit before my time, his achievement is synonymous with true greats of the Athletics World and no doubt encouraged the great British Athletes that followed. I do his stone is being restored /renewed for a man who achieved so much in his lifetime.
Thank you Alan. It was nice to watch a film clip of him talking when he was much shoulder expressing the fact that he did believe at the time it was a mental barrier more than a physical barrier that stopped it being broken and he proved it which was very inspirational. Thank you, see you soon my friend
Very good video as always 😊
Hi Alan I’m enjoying all your videos
Hello Diane, well that's really nice. It makes me feel happy for doing them. You're very kind. See you again. Alan
Great video Alan as always
Hi Nay thank you always good to see you
That was very interesting, Alan. I was only 6 in 1954 but I was familiar with the name Dr Roger Banister. Obviously I didn't realise what a great achievement it was at the time and wasn't aware what his profession was. Thanks for the info. 👋👋
Hi Mag it was just one of those Pinnacle moments when somebody broke a barrier had been there for so long and I think it stands for the possibilities for humans in other directions since. Very kind of you to comment Alan
Great video Alan!
Hi Hank 👋 Alan
Hi Alan thank you very enjoyable content as usual stay safe catch you on the next one 👏👏👏👏
Interesting chap, nice video, im waiting to see a neurologist , im on the waiting list , ❤
I hope you get through to see the specialist soon Wendy
He treated my brother in the 1980s. Btw, Chris Brashier is Brasher with a soft A.
Thank you Alan, I wondered what happened to the stone, would be interesting to find out, all I can think of is that it is being altered
Hello John, I'd love to know myself. I might even try to contact the cemetery and see what's happening since and if I found out I'll let everybody know. Thank you, Alan
I agree about the mind. My mother in law had tea with a friend. Nothing usual about that, then four days later she got a call from her friends husband saying she tested positive for COVID. Few hours later she was convinced she had it, in her mind she was making herself unwell
100% user. I agree with you. That's why the placebo works so well. So if we keep a positive healthy attitude it definitely makes us in a lot better position to feeling good and keeping well. Having said that, have a great day my friend. I'll try to Alan
👍
Maybe it is being done up to mark the70 anniversary of his win.
Well i was surprised Roger lived so long 2018. Im not really into Athletics. But as we all know broken record for the mile , He's Berried with his wife & in a lovely Cemetery, On the entrance to the cemetery the 2 placks witch this guy read , I'm sure someone could make the effort to clean these up
Not a big Job ? 😊
Anyway. Mr & Mrs Bannister .R.I P.
Hi Alan how are you doing?
Hello Jean, pretty good over, I hope you are? Take care of yourself. Alan
Perhaps the stones been taken away for his wife’s name to be added?
Hello Shirley very possibly I'll try and find out and post
Such a shame working class men were not allowed to compete in athletics. The 4 minute mile would have been broken way before the establishment knob Bannister managed it. Not taking anything away from Bannisters achievement but I suspect he knew the truth all his life.
I never really thought about that. Tony, but very possibly it's true. Everybody should be able to compete this regarding their background. All the best my friend, Alan
Is that the loosers prize
Loser.
