Golden Sun music [extended] heard when fighting Saturos and Menardi (nameless at the time) in Vale and when fighting Saturos solo in the Mercury Lighthouse.
Ahhhh, Saturos... the kind of boss where the game put the enemy at a disadvantage and it still was punishing if you weren’t prepared enough. Games these days are too nice.
@@MrUltrashark I'd say probably the best modern example is Octopath Traveler. Even the easiest bosses in this game can take 10-20 minutes to defeat. As for unlicensed works, every Super Robot Wars game can be unrelenting at times, especially when a boss has a map-based attack. Really requires you to plan ahead for their turns. As far as other examples go, most are indie titles that pay homage of classic RPGs and go out of their way to recapture that type of challenge. Even Dragon Quest, while not as challenging as it used to be, still requires quite a lot of grinding when compared to most of today's titles.
Geez....the fact that this piece of beautiful music was composed on the limited hardware of the Gameboy Advance is impressive... But what really blows my mind is the fact that this single song contains three different time signatures (6/8, 5/4 and 4/4)!!! You wouldn't even notice unless you paid close attention! Motoi Sakuraba is a GENIUS!!!
I had no idea about the time signatures I don't read music. but he was onto something when he composed these musics. they are pretty amazing for what they were heard on. probably one of the best things to come from the gba.
The funny thing is that the audio engine, that was used by Golden Sun used exacly what the GBA was natively capable of (8bit sample playback output, 32768Hz), with interpolation (i think it was linear). Golden Sun:Lost Age broke the record, with double the playback frequency (64kHz), which was easily to notice. That Sakuraba... He broke the GBA's limits like an boss. Thats why i like him, he's an boss like most game composers.
Loundre3 You seem to know some technicals about game audio. Can you point me to any resources where you learned about playback output, interpolation, etc.?
Sorry for the late reply. I checked again, and Golden Sun actually uses 24kHZ, not 32kHZ. Golden Sun Lost Age uses 32kHZ. Excuse me for spreading misinformation. For the antagonist of the game, he sure had a heroic sounding theme. EDIT: Just so we’re clear, antagonist does not always mean “villain” Antagonist is simply the opposing force to the protagonist (Isaac & co). Never did I utter the word “villain”.
They were still evil and barbaric. Like when they attacked a bunch of scholars and scientists outside the venus lighthouse for basically no reason other than they happened to be near it
I love how each major JRPG has its own distinct flavor and style, musically included.. Golden Sun, Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy, Dragion Warrior/Dragon Quest. etc.
People talk about so many epic battles and feels in today's video games, but for me, climbing this tower and fighting Saturos was one of my favorites and this theme had A LOT to do with that. Classic.

Its a game that had a dog steal 1 shoe. Its really not that consent approved. It would be...Better to "Remake" The game and have some improviasable improvments to give it a steadier flow, From the ground up- Risky And no it wouldent Hurt the game because it would be a "remake" I just dont feel a way about its waywardness. Its got a *Mettal* to it that makes gives it a potential for a stable 3D Environment the question is, how touche is the swivel on the camera???
That feeling when you bought a GBA with your savings, go home, play Golden Sun after you skip school, and get hit by this epic soundtracks... Priceless, PRIIIICELESS.
When I first fought saturos he downed Mia and Ivan no sweat . I thought I was supposed to lose here like the first fight , but then the game over screen came on and I was like " ohhh boy this isn't good !
The fact that all of you people saying that Ivan and mia kept getting knocked out is literally making me question my existence no offense. In every playthrough I have ever done, Mia and especially Ivan never got knocked out whatsoever. Yep. Not even the Deadbeard fight. Although, due to Menardi's hax she always targets Ivan with her 1 shot attack called Death size. But that only happens at rare times, but still don't know why specifically Ivan :P

It's not a linear RPG , meaning you could explore chunks of the game you were never intended to at the time . When I battled Saturos on my first playthrough I was severely underleveled because I went there before I fought the tree boss . Also , at the time I equipped each character with their own djinn element and only learned later that combining elements and wisely using summons can make or break your battles. If you use them right , any character can be a healer or a tank ... That's something I really *really* love about this game and gave me an entirely new appreciation for it . So ... Yeah . With how flexible the battle system and the world map is , don't be surprised to see people complain or narrate their experience . Instead , I would be happy to hear you share what made your Ivan so powerful . I know for sure you're telling the truth ... Because I'm playing the game now and both Ivan and Mia can be as resilient as Garret and Isaac because I equipped them with the right djinn element combination and cautiously used their summons
Hahahahaha poor Mia, but yeah, she does take more damage from Saturos, and Ivan is just squishi overall. Still, I do protect them well, more so Mia since she is the healer of the party. But yeah a couple of buffs to elemental resistance can make that easier :D
I did that because my english was bad at the time, I would just go where I found story progression and I found the lighthouse first. The rest is as you could expect, a nightmare
@@excrono it is, back then my emulator was damaged so I couldn't save my gameplay, meaning whenever I had to turn off the game it's start all over again. Man when I finally defeated him after repeating and repeating so much, I felt like I beated the final boss of the game
Hearing this so long after beating it makes me appreciate Saturos's/Menardi's struggle so much more. Issac's group was the antagonist to their efforts, yet everyone wanted the same thing in the end
The final boss of Golden Sun is not Saturos and Menardi, Fusion Dragon, Deadbeard, Doom Dragon or Dullahan. The final boss of golden sun is getting Sunshine the blacksmith to cooperate.
He always gives me every item but the one I want. It's like the game is psychic or something. If you've played Monster Hunter you're familiar with the urban myth of the desire sensor. It's things like this that almost tempt me to believe such a thing could exist. Seriously, on a recent playthrough I RNG abused for like 8 orihalcons, since I wanted a Xylion armor for my Garet ronin build. I saved directly in front of Sunshine and repeatedly went through all 8 and reset after they were all gone. 50+ tries later, not a single Xylion armor. I ended up with like 3 Excaliburs before I finally got one. Then I tried the same thing with Mythril clothes. More than 100 mythril silver later, nada. Then much later on I brought him more mythril just for shop completion, and he literally gives me 5 clothes in a row. I wanted to throw my DSi across the room in frustration.
Its crazy how the battle effect sounds (heal, cast, djinn prep/summon, etc) goes so well with the theme I will replay this in the future alongside with GS2. Hoping it gets remade for whatever reason though
Just woke up and had exams today.. One of the most important things in my life yet. This was playing in my head all day long. Thank you Golden sun for keeping me hyped through tough times
Still one of the greatest video game soundtracks ever and this music is peak boss battle theme. Played this game back in 2001 and I still use it to pump myself.
This is my reminder to get back to playing Golden Sun/TLA Reloaded, a pair of excellent romhacks that totally rebalance the games to where they actually feel fresh--and don't have the weird RNG issues the originals do. Needless to say, they're considerably tougher as a result. Honestly makes this theme even more epic. I've beaten Saturos, but haven't even gotten to TLA Reloaded. Kinda dreading the Star Magician fight haha
Oh Isaac, why can't you just be playable in Smash. And Felix as an echo too? This was my most wanted (after Banjo-Kazooie) for a long time. Just imagine him/them there and their amazing music. That ship journey to Karagol, Isaac's/Felix's/Jenna's battle themes, Saturos theme, Venus Lighthouse, maybe some of the world maps or that one music where the elemental stars were in the beginning of the first game...
I had a metronome set to 260 BPM and 12/8 (the initial time signature) and while the music bounces around between different time signatures and can be jarring at times, it always comes back to that 12/8 and sounds so satisfying to hear it line up again
Doesn't matter how long it takes, I will hope for a new Golden Sun as long as I live... 😌 This series is in my DNA now... NINTENDO DIRECT, WHERE YOU AT!!?
I seriously wonder why in France, Saturos's name is Salamandar and Menardi's name is Phoenixia, even for Isaac (Vlad in french) and a lot of character too ! O_o I was so lost when I read "Saturos" on internet. x)

Tengo 16 años Estoy en mi primera partida en Golden Sun y es el primer RPG de estilo clasico que e jugado en mi vida , *Acabo de vencerlo por primera vez* ...QUE TEMAZO juro que de una me vine a oírlo aquí Y QUE COMBATAZO me costo un poco (es más casi me derrota) y tuve que ir con cabeza y con calma , lo enfrente con todos mis personajes estaban a NV 12 por lo cuál pienso que estoy un poco justo de nivel en estos momentos ya que incluso aunque el equipo que llevó no es malo acabo el que creo que su ataque mas poderoso (Erupción) con Iván de un golpe incluso cuando lo tenía a toda al vida , cada vez que lo usaba mi corazón se aceleraba por la tensión y este temazo me dejaba bien claro que esto no era para nada como los combates que había tenido , un verdadero desafío al final el muy cabrón me dejó echo miércoles el equipo tanto en PV como en PP y casi sin objetos curativos pero lo venci a la primera!! Este juego me tiene enganchado , llevaba mucho tiempo sin disfrutar tanto así se un videojuego tengo el pecho ardiendo de la tensión que acabo de pasar...fue mágico lo juro me ENCANTO
Probably my most favorite theme out of the whole series. And I'm glad it was not only used in Saturos's battle, but also the Star Magician one too. It has such a bubbly feel to it.
I forgot how much I hated this boss battle until yesterday. He's literally the 2nd or 3rd boss in the game, depending if you do the stuff with the trees first, which I recommend you do because you get Venus and Jupiter Djinn from there. My strategy is to give both Venus Djinn to Mia so she gets Cure well, have Garet and Ivan focus on dealing damage, and have Issac attack when he's not using Ply. Recommend level is 10 or higher. Saturos will not mess around he's still one of the hardest early boss fights I've ever faced. I mean, even playing it on the switch, he almost one shot Ivan on the very first turn, Saturos is brutal. Also, one more piece of advice don't save at the top of the lighthouse save before you get to the top, so if you feel under leveled or need more stuff, you can level up and get healing items... not that they will help, because you'll need to rely on cure well, and if you don't have cure well, then level up until you get it.
Man. It's really too bad. I found Golden Sun on the Wii U shop. Managed to get it before they closed down the Wii U shop for good. No regrets. Even got Lost Age with it.
My favourite battle theme from my favourite game. It really deserves to be more known, it's so unfortunate that Dark Dawn did not make people want to discover the previous ones :(
Pretty epic battle music that's for sure. Yeah, i think the deveopers waited too long to release Dark Dawn. Esp where it's for DS rather than GBA like the previous two. By then most game players were already well into ds and never looked back. it's a possibility anyways.
I love this game and theme it really takes me back with great memories and I still enjoy it this game is amazing it was full of Adventures,Mysteries,Secrets,Elements,solving puzzles,discovering alot of new things along the way of this journey everything its like it will be passed down to generation to generation maybe in the future too who knows Golden Sun will always be around Forever...
i really wish they would continue the series with gs4 gs3 was such a cliff hanger at the end! awesome theme on another note i remember the first time fighting saturos at the Mercury light house as a kid then flipping shit once i beat him cause he was hard to beat for me at the time..
CerebrumDisciple I don't know if they will make a 4th one. The sales weren't bad, but only moderate. They sold more Mario golf games than golden sun 3. Probably because they waited 7 years and so many hardcore fans had moved on.
+Wurmo Also, GS3 was a totally shitload. Poor argument (and even poorest storyline), not-as-good music, uncharismatic characters (and too many of them), "invented" map, and plenty of logical fails... Only good thing i saw there where some puzzles. I would not buy GS4, yet i loved GS 1&2, and bough the 3 of them. I also know many friends who thinks more or less like I do, and many fans said that to Camelot, so they might just think it's not wroth even trying GS4.
Fuck that defeatist, negative, cynical attitude. Not continuing the franchise would be the worst disgrace to it and the fans. There's so much potential storyline and gameplay for GS4 that not manipulatiing it would be worse tgan all of tge flaws of DD.

I just recently got back to this fight after returning to this game, hopefully I'll actually beat the game this time but... This guy. Freaking ONE-SHOTTED. MIA FROM 100% HEALTH! ON HIS *FIRST TURN!!!* Made the battle EXTREMELY interesting. Ivan having the Healing Ring was definitely the right move, I'll tell ya that.
What a badass, honestly, He held off FOUR Adepts while in front of a Lighthouse that was severely weakening him! I loved how this game portrayed the antagonists as actual credible threats while later flipping everything you thought you knew on its head!
@@estebanoyonondo3868 yo literal acabo de derrotarlo , esta es la primera vez que juego Golden Sun y no wey...COMBATAZO , para empezar mi equipo es de nivel 12 y tiene equipamiento...bueno , al principio fui con todo a Issac le dije que usara a su Djinn para atacar , Ivan uso psinergia de plasma , Nia psinergia de Hielo y Garet psinergia volcán , le hizo mucho daño con eso y luego el usa bola de fuego y le quita un tercio de vida a todo el equipo , después yo Le dije a Issac y a nia que se curen a Garet que Invoque su Djinn para aumentar el ataque del equipo y a Iván que use psinergia plasma otra vez , de hay en adelante estuve atento a que mi equipo no perdiera más de ma mitad de su vida , en caso de estar a mas de la mitad atacaba con ese personaje y si no , lo curaba , y así fui varios turnos hasta que...uso Erupción y hay mamá a ivan se lo bajo de 1 sólo ataque y eso que estaba a toda la vida , a Nia la dejó bien jodida y a garet le hizo daño pero no taaanto , con ese ataque prácticamente acababa conmigo menos mal que no lo usaba tan seguido porque si no GG , después de eso seguí luchando sin Iván ya que no tenía como revivirlo y jugando con cabeza cada movimiento que hacía acabe ganando pero a sido de lejos el enemigo más fuerte que e tenido en el juego , para colmo Alex dice después que le gane porque sus ataques estaban debilitados😂

I really like golden sun, but the difficulty sometimes spikes and that's not fun.

This song becomes a mix of terror and epicness when you're trying to finish mercury lighthouse before saving Tret.

@@excrono it is, back then my emulator was damaged so I couldn't save my gameplay, meaning whenever I had to turn off the game it's start all over again. Man when I finally defeated him after repeating and repeating so much, I felt like I beated the final boss of the game

Hearing this so long after beating it makes me appreciate Saturos's/Menardi's struggle so much more. Issac's group was the antagonist to their efforts, yet everyone wanted the same thing in the end

He always gives me every item but the one I want. It's like the game is psychic or something. If you've played Monster Hunter you're familiar with the urban myth of the desire sensor. It's things like this that almost tempt me to believe such a thing could exist. Seriously, on a recent playthrough I RNG abused for like 8 orihalcons, since I wanted a Xylion armor for my Garet ronin build. I saved directly in front of Sunshine and repeatedly went through all 8 and reset after they were all gone. 50+ tries later, not a single Xylion armor. I ended up with like 3 Excaliburs before I finally got one. Then I tried the same thing with Mythril clothes. More than 100 mythril silver later, nada. Then much later on I brought him more mythril just for shop completion, and he literally gives me 5 clothes in a row. I wanted to throw my DSi across the room in frustration.

Its crazy how the battle effect sounds (heal, cast, djinn prep/summon, etc) goes so well with the theme I will replay this in the future alongside with GS2. Hoping it gets remade for whatever reason though

I just started playing this game again on my old gba. And the first thing that came to mind was to hear this awesome theme again. Such a masterpiece.

Still one of the greatest video game soundtracks ever and this music is peak boss battle theme. Played this game back in 2001 and I still use it to pump myself.
This is my reminder to get back to playing Golden Sun/TLA Reloaded, a pair of excellent romhacks that totally rebalance the games to where they actually feel fresh--and don't have the weird RNG issues the originals do. Needless to say, they're considerably tougher as a result.
Honestly makes this theme even more epic. I've beaten Saturos, but haven't even gotten to TLA Reloaded. Kinda dreading the Star Magician fight haha

Oh Isaac, why can't you just be playable in Smash. And Felix as an echo too? This was my most wanted (after Banjo-Kazooie) for a long time. Just imagine him/them there and their amazing music. That ship journey to Karagol, Isaac's/Felix's/Jenna's battle themes, Saturos theme, Venus Lighthouse, maybe some of the world maps or that one music where the elemental stars were in the beginning of the first game...

Star Magician was my Rainbow Road level for a boss.. I had never woven a tighter pair of try hard pants for any boss until I met him.
I had a metronome set to 260 BPM and 12/8 (the initial time signature) and while the music bounces around between different time signatures and can be jarring at times, it always comes back to that 12/8 and sounds so satisfying to hear it line up again

Tengo 16 años Estoy en mi primera partida en Golden Sun y es el primer RPG de estilo clasico que e jugado en mi vida , *Acabo de vencerlo por primera vez* ...QUE TEMAZO juro que de una me vine a oírlo aquí Y QUE COMBATAZO me costo un poco (es más casi me derrota) y tuve que ir con cabeza y con calma , lo enfrente con todos mis personajes estaban a NV 12 por lo cuál pienso que estoy un poco justo de nivel en estos momentos ya que incluso aunque el equipo que llevó no es malo acabo el que creo que su ataque mas poderoso (Erupción) con Iván de un golpe incluso cuando lo tenía a toda al vida , cada vez que lo usaba mi corazón se aceleraba por la tensión y este temazo me dejaba bien claro que esto no era para nada como los combates que había tenido , un verdadero desafío al final el muy cabrón me dejó echo miércoles el equipo tanto en PV como en PP y casi sin objetos curativos pero lo venci a la primera!!
Este juego me tiene enganchado , llevaba mucho tiempo sin disfrutar tanto así se un videojuego tengo el pecho ardiendo de la tensión que acabo de pasar...fue mágico lo juro me ENCANTO
Probably my most favorite theme out of the whole series. And I'm glad it was not only used in Saturos's battle, but also the Star Magician one too. It has such a bubbly feel to it.
I forgot how much I hated this boss battle until yesterday. He's literally the 2nd or 3rd boss in the game, depending if you do the stuff with the trees first, which I recommend you do because you get Venus and Jupiter Djinn from there.
My strategy is to give both Venus Djinn to Mia so she gets Cure well, have Garet and Ivan focus on dealing damage, and have Issac attack when he's not using Ply. Recommend level is 10 or higher. Saturos will not mess around he's still one of the hardest early boss fights I've ever faced.
I mean, even playing it on the switch, he almost one shot Ivan on the very first turn, Saturos is brutal. Also, one more piece of advice don't save at the top of the lighthouse save before you get to the top, so if you feel under leveled or need more stuff, you can level up and get healing items... not that they will help, because you'll need to rely on cure well, and if you don't have cure well, then level up until you get it.
Part of me wants to ask Sakuraba if he was given any prompt for this track to sound a certain way... very heroic theme for this boss fight
The mario kart-ish jingle in the back in @1:05 is so subtle but adds so much to the song, love it!

Pretty epic battle music that's for sure. Yeah, i think the deveopers waited too long to release Dark Dawn. Esp where it's for DS rather than GBA like the previous two. By then most game players were already well into ds and never looked back. it's a possibility anyways.
I love this game and theme it really takes me back with great memories and I still enjoy it this game is amazing it was full of Adventures,Mysteries,Secrets,Elements,solving puzzles,discovering alot of new things along the way of this journey everything its like it will be passed down to generation to generation maybe in the future too who knows Golden Sun will always be around Forever...
i really wish they would continue the series with gs4 gs3 was such a cliff hanger at the end! awesome theme on another note i remember the first time fighting saturos at the Mercury light house as a kid then flipping shit once i beat him cause he was hard to beat for me at the time..

+Wurmo Also, GS3 was a totally shitload. Poor argument (and even poorest storyline), not-as-good music, uncharismatic characters (and too many of them), "invented" map, and plenty of logical fails... Only good thing i saw there where some puzzles. I would not buy GS4, yet i loved GS 1&2, and bough the 3 of them.
I also know many friends who thinks more or less like I do, and many fans said that to Camelot, so they might just think it's not wroth even trying GS4.
Fuck that defeatist, negative, cynical attitude. Not continuing the franchise would be the worst disgrace to it and the fans. There's so much potential storyline and gameplay for GS4 that not manipulatiing it would be worse tgan all of tge flaws of DD.

Made the battle EXTREMELY interesting. Ivan having the Healing Ring was definitely the right move, I'll tell ya that.
What a badass, honestly, He held off FOUR Adepts while in front of a Lighthouse that was severely weakening him! I loved how this game portrayed the antagonists as actual credible threats while later flipping everything you thought you knew on its head!

@@estebanoyonondo3868 yo literal acabo de derrotarlo , esta es la primera vez que juego Golden Sun y no wey...COMBATAZO , para empezar mi equipo es de nivel 12 y tiene equipamiento...bueno , al principio fui con todo a Issac le dije que usara a su Djinn para atacar , Ivan uso psinergia de plasma , Nia psinergia de Hielo y Garet psinergia volcán , le hizo mucho daño con eso y luego el usa bola de fuego y le quita un tercio de vida a todo el equipo , después yo Le dije a Issac y a nia que se curen a Garet que Invoque su Djinn para aumentar el ataque del equipo y a Iván que use psinergia plasma otra vez , de hay en adelante estuve atento a que mi equipo no perdiera más de ma mitad de su vida , en caso de estar a mas de la mitad atacaba con ese personaje y si no , lo curaba , y así fui varios turnos hasta que...uso Erupción y hay mamá a ivan se lo bajo de 1 sólo ataque y eso que estaba a toda la vida , a Nia la dejó bien jodida y a garet le hizo daño pero no taaanto , con ese ataque prácticamente acababa conmigo menos mal que no lo usaba tan seguido porque si no GG , después de eso seguí luchando sin Iván ya que no tenía como revivirlo y jugando con cabeza cada movimiento que hacía acabe ganando pero a sido de lejos el enemigo más fuerte que e tenido en el juego , para colmo Alex dice después que le gane porque sus ataques estaban debilitados😂
@@crist-roayt yo también le gané a saturos ( primero aumentar el ataque con gran impacto luego la defensa con resistir, después ATACAR con todo, ataques normales, mágicos, ataques especiales de los artefactos y por último invocaciones: NEREIDA y más y fin).
