If you are on facebook, consider joining the Pinhoti Trail Alliance group, Pinhoti Trail Hikers group and/or Georgia Pinhoti Trail Assosication group. They are a great resource.
Thanks for the video. I live in Shelby County, AL, and have interest in doing sections of Pinhoti over the next year or so. Where did you pick up "trail only" as opposed to road walk?
There will be short road walks in a few sections, but relatively easy to avoid. The read road walk in AL is from Weogufka, Alabama to Trammel Trailhead, which is about 18 miles if memory services me. The trail begins near the summit of Flagg Mountain and goes for about 5 miles. Then you start a 18ish mile road walk to Trammel Trailhead. From Trammel Trailhead to the AL-GA border it is almost all trails with a handful of very small road walks. I wouldn't worry about the road walks after Trammel Trailhead. This is a great resource to plan your hikes: www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/al-pocket-guides..html
One of my coworkers grew up a couple of miles from the Weogufka end, and his parents still live there. I had seen that website before but apparently missed the pocket guide section. Great info on those maps on the website too.
Kind of sucks that I really wanted to hike this trail for a long time and have decided to choose another one. Not that your videos aren't helpful ( I enjoy them) but if I can't get actual maps or information that is user friendly from the PT alliance, then I should just find another one. I live in Pensacola and this trail is close to home.
Before you do something else, someone make GPX coordinates of the entire trail. Before you give up, look here: lifeat2mph.com/pinhoti/download.htm Dl the GPX file. Then go to your apps on your phone and look at GPX viewer. Both are free. I found them very helpful. It uses your phone GPS to find you on the trail and his coordinates show the entire trail and where you are on it. I will also say this, I am the type of person who gets lost on a 1 way road. If I could do the trail, anyone can. That is the honest truth. But if not the Pinhoti, what is the other trail you are looking at?
Thanks !
Awesome video. Was this recent? I ask because Im curious as to the current drought effects on the water supplies. Thanks!
I haven't been recently, but I have read from many hikers that the Pinhoti is very dry, whether you are talking about AL or GA.
Thank you
