    I got back into leather working last year after almost 12 away from it. Your videos have helped me take my skills to a whole new level. You and Don Gonzales are my personal favorites. Thanks for reigniting this passion for me. I now have my own leather business and have a studio in my home. Anyways…. Thanks again…

    Hey, one trick i use for painting inside those small etchings and engravings off my laser is to use a tipless hypodermic on a syringe. 18 or 20G typically do the trick. You can pick up syringes for pretty cheap at Tractor Supply Co, or similar livestock stores.

      Thanks for watching! It's actually a pretty easy process. But the foil is SO thin and fragile.... makes it finicky to work with. However, the sheen it gives off is so much better than metallic paint.

    I think in a previous video you said that this color of dye was an old mix you were trying to use up. Either way, it is a really nice warm and rich color. The natural-colored border groove really is a nice accent with that color. Thanks for another stimulating and instructional video.

    Very nice holster. Simple, but elegant. A holster anyone would be proud to have and wear. In all your videos i have noticed you case your leather with glycerin saddle soap. I have been studying different techniques of casing leather and have been unable to find any discussion on using glycerin saddle soap. You seen to have the process down to an art.would you mind sharing your process. Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  Рік тому

      This technique is something that was shown to me when I was a kid in cub scouts (way back in the 1980s). The soap really helps when you're doing a lot of carving and tooling. It lubricates the leather fibers; makes them more pliable. This in turn makes it easier for a swivel knife to glide through it and for stamps to make their impressions. It also has the benefit of slowing down drying time so you don't have to re-wet as often. Thanks again for subscribing!

      They're brass rivets and burrs. Identical to the more common copper variety except ... well, they're brass. I get them from Tandy Leather.

    Hello Sr., excellent job !!!. Could you please tell me what is that kind of soap that you apply on the leather and what is the reason to use it?, you wrap the leather with the bag, how long should be in that bag?, do you rinse it after that time?. Too much questions, I know, but I hope you can reply all. You are a true master for leather work !!!!
    Regards

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  3 місяці тому +1

      It's glycerine saddle soap. I use it a lot when I'm tooling the leather. It lubricates the leather fibers, which in turn makes for better stamp impressions. It also slows down the drying process. No rinsing; I want the soap to remain there. I case the wet leather for a couple of hours maybe. Some people let sit overnight... but I've never found that necessary. Thanks for subscribing!

    You know I am not much into gold leafing things, as I have seen how it can turn something that looks elegant into something cheap looking even though I have seen it turn something cheap into an elegant piece. But I have to say I really love the looks of that gun holster, and yes you should buy some real gold leaf and do something Star Trek themed. Like say a gun holster for an 1860 army or even a colt walker with the U.S.S. Enterprise N.C.C.-1701, or even a side profile of the U.S.S. Missouri on it. But then again if you did it with the U.S.S. New Jersey on it, you could donate it for their dry docking fund raiser.
