Pocket squares have been around for ages in one form or another. The modern version we know today was predated by the handkerchief, which dates all the way back to ancient Egyptians, who used hankies for hygienic purposes like wiping off dirt or sweat from the face. The pocket square’s popularity can be credited to King Richard II of England, who popularized handkerchiefs in 1390 because of a personal preference for carrying one with him wherever he went. Fast-forward to the 1900s, and everyone who was anyone was toting one. By WWII, however, the idea of a handkerchief fell out of style for sanitary reasons, and pocket squares were known from then on as the fashion accessory we know today.
In the past century, dozens of different ways to fold the square were born. From the ornate four peak to the crisp presidential, there’s a fold suitable for any occasion, be it casual, formal, or somewhere in between. You need a real pock square for it to work. Handkerchiefs are to are not thick enough if there are spread flat out
Try the wave fold or wing puff fold, they are easier to do and look better than this one
Does it have to be a silk pocket square or can you use cotton and linen as well? Asking specifically for a rose fold.

Is a pocket square just a classier name for handkerchief?
A pocket square is decorative and goes in the outside breast pocket of your jacket. A handkerchief is a piece of cloth you keep on the inside pocket of your jacket that you traditionally use to wipe/blow your nose, clean your glasses, etc.

Originally, pocket squares were handkerchiefs, until men realized you can have two, one in your pocket and the other for show
For that reason, I’ll still use my pocket square as a handkerchief, if the issue is minor, cleaning glasses, removing light debris.

I don't wear a suit but odd jacket and trousers + tie and a pocket square. My collegues wear tshirt and jeans. Sometimes I wear a blazer and a pair of black jeans. I don't care if they don't. This is my prefered clothing so I wear it no matter what. You do you, etc :-)

To be honest, I haven't found this helpful. I can't figure out how to orient my fingers like he does at 28 seconds
Sorry to hear that TGG! Once you push the fabric into your hand with your fingers, you should squeeze your hand a bit to grip it. Then when once you twist it sufficiently, the trick is to get your hand out from underneath without all the twists untwisting. At 28 seconds I'm really just pinching the fabric together with my right hand so I can release my left hand. After that, I just wrap the fabric around to the back a bit more to augment the folds.
The truth is that every time you do this it will come out a bit differently. You can see that by the examples at the end of the video. Good luck, let us know if you figure it out!
