I have had a fear of riding Aliso Woods and specifically the Car Wreck trail. I know it's irrational, but the mind game is it's own thing. In this episode, with the help of @TheOutsiderMTB, I head back to get redemption on trails that had gotten into my head. And I ride a new trail too!

Such a great video! I’m so happy for you getting your redemption. The brain game is real! It can be hard to keep your cool when your brain is feeding you negative thoughts, but once you get through and build the positive reality it as all worth it. Also so fun to see you on Lynx and Rockit since I just got back from riding those today, it’s like a replay. Keep making awesome videos 🤘🏽

It’s a bit of a drive, but I’m stoked to head back there.
It’s really cool to see how another rider is honest with their fears and limitations when you’re often wondering if it’s just you. My last year of riding has seen tons of progression and I finally upgraded to a real bike (Santa Cruz HT). I ride with several guys that are much more experienced so it helps to keep pushing me to progress, but I know my limits and comfort level to ride safe. Keep up the great content and see you on the trails! (You’re hitting all my local spots lately!)

Man, I loved everything about this vid! These trails are a 5 min drop from my house and offer so much. So stoked for your Car Wreck redemption! That trail intimidates the hell outta me, especially the gnar garden at the end. And great choice choosing Lynx over Five Oaks! 5O can be such a gamble with how blown out it is but Lynx always brings the smiles. Thanks for bringing the stoke to my Monday morning! ✌🏼🤟🏼

Conquering fears is a big part of life no matter what we do. Whether it's going to that singing or acting audition or bombing down a trail that we crashed on 2 years earlier. It is the ebb and flow of life. It strengthens character and builds confidence. You could have politely declined when Tony asked you to go but you didn't. It was time and you knew, deep inside, it was your time for a character building, confidence strengthening redemption run. Great Job Alan! Bob T.

Nice job, that section of car wreck looks like the type of terrain where you wanna let off the brakes a bit and trust your bike but it's hard to do so when you've crashed there before. The mental game is really tough sometimes!

Less brakes through that section for sure. But there are def some full tombstone wheel stoppers that no amount of momentum can overcome...unless maybe if you're on a DH bike. But yeah...I just gotta hit it more often.

Love your channel, man! Also I’m glad you’re enjoying Aliso. I honestly think that whole region from Aliso to Newport Coast has some of the best trails. Please tell me you’ve ridden Telonics or TNA on the opposite side?
If you want to get to know Aliso more, I’d also check out Mentally Sensitive or Sewer Drop. Mentally is sanctioned... sewer is not. I don’t know do that makes a big difference. But ya..

Love T&A! Haven't hit Telonics or MS yet. Both are on my list. My wrist is getting stronger and starting to be able to handle the chunk of Aliso and Laguna. Like my wrist was pretty tired by the time we finished Lynx, so I'm taking my time on hitting the more gnarly stuff.

@@mtb_alan lol. Glad to hear about the wrist. Forgot you injured it to be honest because this latest video was talking about you thumb! I would definitely put Telonics before MS. It’s not all that chunky. But definitely steep and tech... but also fast and flowy!

Great video. Yeah, that little sonofabitch step-up at 3:22 (of course, as always, it is a little more intimidating in person than the Go-Pro would have you believe) is totally in my head now, lol. When I was in my mid-thirties, it was a complete non issue and I just rode right into and over it without giving it much thought. Well, I'm 50 now and I rode here a few weeks ago and when I got up to that section, the dang thing looked too damn high so I stopped, chickened out, walked it. When you're 50, Rock-It becomes Walk-It! Total head games. All you need is a little speed and you hoist the bike right up and over. Gah! Maybe next time...

I was out there yesterday, I had no idea what Mathis was like. Having come down rocket I decided to go up Mathis so I could go down meadows. It was vile. Couple of times I thought I would just give up and turn around but I stuck it out. I'm never doing that again. I'm going to go back through the neighborhood the next time
Mathis is no joke. Good training though.
Mathis is terrible the first time, but it’s like a naughty siren for your ego that will call you back and next thing you know you’ve done it a few more times and it’s not as bad.

Heh yeah...bobble head! It's funny though, I realized later that the parts where I was having the hardest time was when I was on the brakes and the sus couldn't do its work.

Rode out there first time this past saturday. Not sure if you tried Mentally Sensitive, pretty steep trail. Have to admit, I walked a couple parts. Great content as always when you guys link up.

Rode Rock-It a bunch and always had mental blocks in some spots. But recently, I was with a group and we did Car Wreck first (my first time) and then Rock-It after... and Rock-It was WAY easier after Car Wreck, haha.

It's the Mobius X8. I absolutely love this guard and brace. I have come back from the worst wrist injury, and it has been the best. It gives me support as well as hella good protection. I don't know if you saw my crash at Greer recently, but if I hadn't already been convinced, that crash was the best evidence.

I rode Car Wreck for the first time today, usually I do Rock it and Lynx. Was way gnarlier than I thought and way too many walkers. My risk to reward was definitely in effect. Made it out ok somehow.
Indeed. If you wanna avoid hikers, you gotta hit it early or on a weekday. Remember, it's all mixed-use trails out there, and without hikers, we might not have the trails in OC Parks.

They’re similar in difficulty but different in character. Five Oaks is generally looser. Car Wreck is generally rockier.
